I think just because someone has a high post count, that doesn't automatically make them some kind of celebrity or "better" than anyone else, they just post a lot.

If someone has 10,000 posts of asinine, boorish, uninteresting crap, does that make them popular?

Now if they have 10,000 posts of well written, well thought out commentary and isn't a total douchebag to everyone, I could understand them being popular, but idolized? Not so much.

When I was in school there was this guy that obviously idolized me, and it creeped me out like you wouldn't believe. He tried to talk like me, dress like me, act like me, I even caught him practicing my mannerisms! The last straw was when he showed up after the holidays with a goatee & shaved head, and he had dyed his beard to look like MINE.

Fucking BIZZARE, man.

I mean I know I'm made of awesome but come ON. That shit wasn't flattering, it was "Single White MALE" (Cookie if you get the reference.)

What was the question?

Well, since they are more frequent, people will see them much more often, and will perceive them as more experienced since they're on here so much. There's also the theory of exposure = attraction, meaning the more you get exposed to something, the more interest you gain in it. So if you see the avatar in five different threads, you might be getting ideas of the users, probably positive. Since many strive for high post counts because (for no good reason) it give certain users a feeling of higher status, they start to idealize the ones with higher counts. I gave up getting a high post count when I saw that anyone can get to 10000 in a few months through the user groups.

Users with VERY large post counts are more prominent than others. I have a fairly large post count and no one idolizes me. *Sad face.*
