Of course it's not meat! It's...cabbage. Yes, fish are actually swimming cabbage, which makes them vegetarian food!
Seriously, what's the big deal with calling yourself a pescetarian when you eat meat? I used to be one before going fully vegetarian, and I always made the distinction. Meat=collection of muscle and fat tissue, fish use muscles to swim, ergo fish are meat. Though I'm curious if those "vegetarians" who eat fish would also eat dolphins/whales using the same justification.

Because they consider fish to be more akin to plants than animals, usually. If you're against eating meat because you oppose causing suffering to animals, why would you avoid an animal that is more or less incapable of knowing that it's alive, let alone that it's suffering?

According to Catholic law/mythos...God said so.
I'm surprised as to how long it took for someone to give the proper answer.

But yeah, it's that, God said you could it eat on some Friday or something, meaning it wasn't meat (makes no sense to me, but whatever).
OK why would God think that fish isn't meat (or in my few why did the people that wrote the bible think fish isn't meat)
Because God has bipolar disorder (aka Maniac Depression). The clue is in the sudden and massive change in personally between the old and new testment...

Of course, you know what this means...

I've always been baffled by this as well. Fish are animals. Vegetarians don't eat animals. Period. End of story.

I generally don't believe that fish is meat, but honestly I can't come up with an argument why it isn't. I mean i fish alot so I have fish atleast a few times a month but i never really consider it as a meat.

A fish is an animal, meat comes from animals, therefore if you eat a fish, you are eating meat.

Probably because we don't live with any fish, or at least the type that we eat, so people may have this connection with the animals they are likely to see (cows, pigs) and hardly ever see the fish they eat, alive, meaning this connection is unlike those of farm animals. Thus that would be completely mentally and no other reason at all.

Either way they are both animals and shouldn't be eaten if you are a vegetarian (which i am not)

I wouldn't mind being pescovegetarian (vegetarians that eat fish) because I don't think fish are intelligent beings. I still think they're meat, but they're not as intelligent as mammals. Also, most fish are caught, so at least they have a chance, not raised in terrible conditions to be slaughtered later in their life.

That would be my justification for eating fish as a vegetarian.
You've never heard of a fish farm before. Many fish are harvested at such farms, where they had no choice, most likely raised in a pen similar to a chicken coop.
Which is why I didn't say "All fish." And even if it were all fish, fish are not intelligent creatures. They don't think, they don't feel, they just do whatever their instincts tell them to do. Most other creatures at least show some intelligence.

It's a conversation thing. Meat describes the muscle and flesh of mammals. Fish are not mammals, therefore their flesh is not meat. Just like you wouldn't use the word for "three" to describe the quantity of "two", you would not use the word meat to describe the flesh of fish.
Birds.

Your argument is invalid.

Thats the depressive side of maniac depression, see? Also, he has a delightful voice and way of speaking. And is gay.

Why else do you think their are so many conflicting versions of religions?
