To be quite honest... I have no idea why I use facebook... My profile was created for me by my sisters back when I was still in Highschool.. I guess I still use it out of habit I guess...

I have a FB account but I hardly ever use it, and I have all the privacy settings at maximum so I'm pretty much invisible on there. I dunno why I don't like it much, but it's probably got something to do with the fact that I'm a pathalogical loner and I don't like having to have inane conversations with someone I barely remember and didn't like from school ten years ago. For people I actually want to keep in touch with, I'll call, email or see them in person.

My LJ gets more use and my public LJ posts get fed into my FB notes without me having to do anything, which is a good way of communicating with pretty much everyone I know without getting too personal about it all.

To keep in contact with my many friends that went off to other places be it uni or work and so I get wind of any parties/shindigs about to happen. You know, the reason why it was made, you really have to be an introverted nerd not to know what it is for.

Some of the apps are actually quite useful and some of then, including the games, is just a way to get the 13 and 14 year olds to come on it.

I use it because my friends decided that it was better than any of the other ways to keep connected. When Facebook became the new social networking fad, they all moved away from the old sites and if I wanted to stay in contact I realised I would have to as well.

I refuse to add apps to my profile, they just compromise security. I also have my settings locked down tight as far as friend's apps too. If the want to let Zynga, and the half a million companies who benefit from them, finding out personal info, that's their lookout. I refuse to let such abominations as Farmville and Mafia Wars near my profile.

If my friends move on from Facebook, I will gladly ditch it. It's there as a last resort form of contact, nothing more.

I try not to use facebook, since a decade worth of ex girlfriends can now "connect" and "poke" me.

Its a stressful time for me to use these social type sites, especially when I had two ex's stake claim to me on "my wall".
the reason i broke up with many of my girlfriends is because they wouldnt let me poke them :')

OT: i use it, used to be to excess, but i deleted my mafia wars and farmville when i started studying again and i havent gone back on them, i still go onto facebook though, means i dont have to physically talk to people

I'm an inflammatory troll who wants to generalise about hundreds of millions of people I don't know. Aren't I a grand and witty chap?
Ugh.

OT: I use it to keep in contact with my large group of friends. I finished school last year, and instead of the slow and tedious phone texting, I use Facebook to talk to them. Yes, I use email, when it's necessary. But Facebook is way more convenient, and group-friendly.

Like most of the people here, I just use it to keep in contact with friends with whom I don't share a common instant messenger service with. Recently my use has been declining, however.

Well everybody I know, bar maybe 3 people, have Facebook. This means its the fastest way to talk to somebody, which saves me a small fortune in phone credit.

Yeah but only to save cash on phone bills, never play any of the games or join groups.

I used to use it since the rest of my school does, but I disabled my account due to it being terrible, especially when all the people on your account are twelve and thirteen.

Though Facebook has less to do on it than bebo or Myspace it is better than Twitter as it has more than just status updates!

But it's easy to contact friends that you have lost contact with as many people use it!!!

It's pretty simple, really.

Social networking sites are about your friends: thus, one will go to the one where one's friends are. It used to be Myspace, before it got taken over by emo 13-year olds who constantly posted love letters to their boyfriends as bulletins and changed their profile names daily to various lyrics from emo bands. Now it's Facebook, an inarguably more mature social networking site than Myspace, but still allowing for fun and immaturity on the part of its clients without attracting it.

I'm on Facebook because social networking sites are an easy and fun way to keep up on friends. I'm on Facebook specifically because everyone else is. I'm not one to just go along with the crowd in most situations, but when the entire point of the concept is to be in contact with the crowd, it simply makes sense to go where they go.
