I use it. it's useful for keeping in touch with people back home and organising stuff. And chatting to people when you're bored and the weather's crap.

Forums are fun to use, and Facebook is a casual forum, designed to appeal to casual internet users.

Basically, Facebook is to fora as FarmVille is to gaming.

Eh I just use it to keep in touch with my real life friends. I don't understand people who accept every single friend request and even say something like "feel free to add me!" in their profile.

It's convenient to see what's going on as well I guess, although someone usually texts me days before I notice the event on Facebook anyway. I prefer the presentation to MySpace; I haven't used any other sites like Bebo etc.

I think that through ease of use and the fact that many people use it are some of the reasons it has such a large following.

Honestly? A lot of my friends use it, it's an easy way to keep in touch with friends and family. And it's simple to use. I don't really get the facebook "hatin'". Social networking is simply a way to talk to people without using the phone or meeting them face to face.

I don't particularly like Facebook myself, but I use it regardless. The main appeal of it likely is the apps, such as Zynga's 'games'. It's just a shame that none of them really interest me in the slightest, and my news feed is full of "User joined group" information. I know I can use Firefox scripts in Greasemonkey to hide those, but then my feed would be full of nothing. I logon to my FB account for about 15 minutes a day, where I find if anyone I want to talk to is online, and maybe update my status if something interesting has happened. Otherwise, I do nothing with my account.

I use it because it's what the rest of the world seem to use, so people I meet and want to stay in touch with are more likely to have profiles on it. Gotta keep with the times.

I use it once or twice a week, to keep up with friends, and that's about it. I don't do any of the quizzes or any of that shite, I hate them with a fiery passion. And absolutely everyone friending each other, gah! Still, I do know a few people there, so as long as I stay away for the most part it's not too bad.

I try not to use facebook, since a decade worth of ex girlfriends can now "connect" and "poke" me.

Its a stressful time for me to use these social type sites, especially when I had two ex's stake claim to me on "my wall".
Do continue, in a lot of detail if it suits you =p

I've had several ex's profess their love for me after finding me on facebook again, now this was done on a public viewable wall with which I didn't reciprocate love to any of them.

Apparently, that makes me THE FUCKING PLAYER AND CHEATER?

Last time I checked I had 123 messages I hadn't replied to.

Although to be completely fair and unbiased, I was a player and a cheater, was being the key word (oops)

I actually know when the girls have an argument on my wall because I'll get text messages from a couple of them, this is how girls mark their territory after all, whoever sends the most text messages to the guy.

I use it once a year to post a funny pic or quote to brighten up the lives of my miserable friends who's life somehow revolves around the site ;D

Other than that... bleh. We'd be better off without it.
Really? You sure you can speak for everyone just like that?

I for one like Facebook, nothing groundbreaking or anything, but sometimes it's fun to have and it is more then practical.

Orly?

OT: I use FB because all my friends use it and it's handy to keep in contact with them. I don't really understand all the hate. Can't people appreciate a site where you can find and talk to people you cannot see on a regular basis?
Or is the hate directed towards the privacy? Don't put your address, phone number or email (use your junk email) on there and then the worst case sceneario is that FB will catagorise you into a certain consumer group and tailor the advertising on their site so you will see adverts that you are more likely to click on. Google does this too but I rarely see hate for them.
