Poll: Why is it only on 4chan that I ever see anyone call Skyrim outright shit.

Other places hate the game as well. Personally I'm not that big a fan of Skyrim.

The difference is that I don't rant and shout my opinions about them. If someone on 4Chan wants to express their opinion they will do so in a much "louder" way (or as "loud" as you can get in type format).

Did you not see the "Holy shit, Skyrim" thread? Honestly, it's like all the hipsters in the universe went on there and decided to spam 'Skoiram es shite'.
I'm sure there is also some well-founded criticism in there, not just unsubstantive derogatory statements. As you've probably noticed yourself, Skyrim is far from perfect. Also, "love it or shut the fuck up" is not an attitude conducive of an actual discussion of merits and flaws.

Because... well, to put it succinctly, because 4chan is outright shit.

Taking those people seriously is like taking advice from high-school kids. You just don't do it... unless you're in high school.

Well people were complaining about it after it had been released only a few days. The following thread for example was made 10 days after release and belongs to that special time when anyone who expressed a dislike of the game would be lynched for being so "Oh my god, special snowflake-hipster-troll".

I especially like the post about people not having the inborn gift to enjoy Bethesda games. lol.

Because people on 4chan are nothing but trolls?
People have bashed it a damn lot on this site as well, you know.

Me? I loved the game.

Here's a better question? Why are you even on 4chan? The place died late 2006/early 2007 and now became nothing but sad nostalgia. The "people" who are there now are 14 year old clownboats who think they're the badasses of the internet and who don't posses enough creativity to do anything but recreate the same 10 threads over and over and over.

Screw 4chan, that place is long gone.

Please, don't go hating on other online communities here. That's not what we're about.

But this does go and prove a point: on the Escapist, there are different expectations of the user. Just saying "skyrim is outright shit" is unacceptable here. One would say "I did not like Skyrim at all because of X, Y, and Z, and because of these reasons, I feel the game was one of the least satisfying N experiences." or something like that.

4chan has different expectations and standards, so people say different things.

Honestly, I mostly just go there for the lulz and boredom now-a-days. I used to get angry about it, but then I took some reason to the head.

Okay, I loved skyrim. Honestly would have considered it my game of the year but Dark Souls exists.
But I find some rather strange trend on the internet, everywhere people praise it but on 4Chan, and other related chans, its considered casual shit.
Does anyone have a theory on why? Also what did you think of the game.

Edit: Accidentaly made this a poll, please ignore that.
skyrim shits me for alot of the reaons (yes, its populaity and it cbeing onstantley raved about)

Because it's the internet. No matter how good something is they'll always be someone who dislikes something. In fact, the more people praise something, the more likely someone is to go "Oh yes, that game is actually not that good." People think it makes them edgy and interesting.

I mean, take the whole Double Fine Adventure thing the other day. Almost everyone was for it, and yet we had a few journalists debating the ethics of the idea, and how they weren't going to contribute any money. Tat's just ruining the whole idea, but they still do it because it makes them feel all special and inclusive.

Pfft, it's like you people have never been to RPGCodex.

Anyway, in my opinion Skyrim was fine - definitely the biggest step forward for the TES series since Morrowind and the most deserving to be GOTY of all the 3+ million selling games (because let's be honest, no other games are given a shot at GOTY).

But due to the ridiculously inflated rating system that puts honest-to-God shits like MW3 and DA2 in the 9/10, every reviewer had to pretend it's the most perfect game of all time - that the combat isn't clunky, quest solutions and dialogue options aren't limited, the difficulty isn't all over the place, AI isn't silly and so on.

I say again - it's still one of the best games of the year, i've sunk 200+ hours in it and am bound to sink many more thanks to the PC version's modding capabilities. I just hope all this praise doesn't go to Bethesda's head and they think they've outdone themselves in every single aspect. Because as it is today Skyrim is far from its full potential.

A lot of things will emerge - new spells and spell combinations, extended crafting, extended guild quests, more locations and factions, more populated roads and random events, more interaction with NPCs, all those fantastic things [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYOFLqItuW4] from the GameJam they did after finishing Skyrim's release version.

I hope they will look at them and learn from them and deliver a deeper, better experience next time that will truly impress even the most cynical of RPG fans.
