Second above comments re the codex. But really, Skyrim isn't shit. It's just not as good as Morrowind or New Vegas. Some people just have high standards for RPGs.

It's not absolute shit- no way- but it's certainly got a few problems and things that just got overlooked, especially the problems that it inherited from Oblivion which should've been easy fixes.
What gets my goat is that when I point out these issues, and even qualify that I still really, really like the game (just that I'm fairly disappointed that these problems remain constantly overlooked- boring melee combat, boring dialogue, great world but mediocre story, progression curve all over the place), I get people going "omfg no GOTY best game of all time". It's just as bad on both sides. And don't expect anybody to like anything on 4Chan, it's bloody 4Chan.

Skyrim gets bashed contstantly over there, seriously, for every loving thread there are like 10 threads about how incredibly unbalanced it is, how completely broken the stealth system is, how much the UI sucks, how much the magic system is completely broken beyond saviour, and how steam ruined everything good about it and forced Bethesda to make a crappy casual cod shooter.
Skyrim gets bashed contstantly over there, seriously, for every loving thread there are like 10 threads about how incredibly unbalanced it is, how completely broken the stealth system is, how much the UI sucks, how much the magic system is completely broken beyond saviour, and how steam ruined everything good about it and forced Bethesda to make a crappy casual cod shooter.
4chan is where the trolls live, play and learn there troll craft in troll university before being set free on the rest of the internet on graduation day.

What really brought it all home to me was Rorikstead. In the intro the thief talks about being from Rorikstead and eventually I wander on into the town... Except town is being generous. According the the wiki Rorikstead is made of "The settlement consists of two cottages, an inn, and a manor." I Know the game world is fairly large and at times it pulls of something good but then at others the whole thing collapses for me and just feels so small and empty . Rorikstead barely deserves having a name IMO.
This isn't the only reason mind you but its a symbol of whats brought the game down in my eyes and made me feel a bit disappointed.

It is complete shit... to a person who does not like Open World Playgrounds.
I struggle to find one good thing about the game. Honestly I do. Aside from murdering everything, nothing else seems all that worthwhile - and I can say the same for many sandbox type games. GTA 3 and VC all I did was murder people, because the missions were boring as shit, the story was shit and that is all that there is to do. In retrospect, GTA was complete shit.
So I too think Skyrim is complete and utter shit. Now, if they could make an open world that properly reacted to you and your actions, and made you feel part of the world, then maybe I could get along with it. But nay, developers say fuck off to the AI and continue making more areas filled with nothing.

Ehhh. The game isn't "shit", not by any stretch. The first time I laid eyes on it, I, like many others, was pretty much rolling around on the floor in my own spittle and piss over it. But after having seen the game and interacting with it, I just end up with the conclusion that I knew I would end up coming to anyway: It's an okay game. It's not amazing, it's not great, but it's good. It works, it manages to hold together without too much duct tape. The story could have been better, but what can you do? It's not my cup of tea anyway. I have no desire to go and spend time with it.
