Yes, I report things that are against the rules. Is that a problem? Does it matter if it's funny or not? Rules are rules, and they will be reported no matter how much some people find it funny.

i accept that if the topic is really bad then it will be blocked
but if its just a random funny thread which people find somehow offensive and constantly ruin the thread by just commenting "report" then it ruins the thread for other people and may cause the moderators to block the thread anyway if enough boring people click report
I like how you call anyone who doesn't share your sense of humor boring, very subtle. As for people commenting "Reported" in a thread, that is silly. As has been stated time and again, report and move on folks.

You do know mods don't fall to peer pressure right? It's their site and they decide what goes on and what doesn't. There is nothing we can do to stop that. All the report button does is alert them to something.
Exactly right.

That's not true. It's no more "our site" than it is the site of any other individuals here. We aren't exclusive overlords, we're part of the community. It's your site, it's the site of the guy who posted over there, above this post, below this post. To claim that one group has exclusive ownership goes against the spirit of the thing.

Because it's your site (yes, YOU!) I'd say that you should take some pride in what happens here. Clean up the content you think needs cleaning by reporting it. And don't just say "Someone else will" because everyone else says that. I'm not even joking. We get maybe 10 reported posts a day, often less. Only you can stop inappropriate content.

No, I don't report them... mostly because if it is bad enough to need reporting, a dozen people before me have already reported it and had to post in the thread in some stupid way about them reporting it... oh, and all those others that can use the report button without having to announce to the world that it was reported... after that I figure the staff has had enough warning about it...

Because we can't question Mod Logic. If they want something locked, they will do it even if there are no reports for it, by their own logic and opinions, not of the average forum-goer.
Thus making user reporting a bunch of superfluous tatteling.
Both of you should read what Labyrinth has posted.

I don't report people because I honestly don't care what people think or say.
Having said that, not all people are as Laissez-faire as I am and can be sensative about somethings.
If people are reporting then they must not think it's funny and were probably offended somehow.

I've only reported once or twice on this site and only because I was really offended. Normally instead of reporting I quote them and tell them to clean up their act before the ban-hammer falls.

That's a very nice sentiment but regardless of whether or not you wish to acknowledge it there is a hierarchy. Not everyone is a mod, and there are very good reasons for that. but the fact remains that you have more power than I do.

I definitely agree that people should report what they think needs reporting.

I think you screwed up your title... I think you meant "Why not report?"

I report because I can... deal with it.

This is where the report button comes into it. Yes, I have more power, but the point of my power is to facilitate the users. I'm looking out for the community, in effect. You lot are the community, so if you report something it tells me that the community doesn't like it. The more people who report something, the larger the population of the community who considers that content a blight on the forums.

The exceptionally low rate of reports, and a fair bit of experience as community members means that we tend to take one report as a representation of 10 users who couldn't be bothered hitting the button. In much the same way politicians see one letter as a sign of a hundred constituents being displeased, but not bothered to complain.

Allow me to correct my comment.

"I still don't know how to report." And at that point I would roll my eyes in a comically large fashion.
