So reporting someone spamming advertising threads is not fighting their own battles? We do more than just ban people for being offensive idiots.Dazza5897922 said:Reporting is for people that are easily offended or can't fight their own battles.
I almost reported you for saying that...DarkRyter said:I still don't know how to report.
Too many people in the world are too sensitive. Or to put it into better terms, no longer understand the rules of 'Sticks and stones may break my bones'. You can't get rid of stuff that's offensive because being offended is so subjective, you'd have to stop all thinking to stop anyone being offended, and even then someone will be offended for being denied basic human rights and freedom of speech.JenXXXJen said:I still think a lot of people are too sensitive, though.

I'll take this one. When articles like that are made, they usually have to do with games. Cause this is a games magazine. And the writers at least use some discretion. The thread that the OP pointed out was just wrong and disgusting. It may have been funny for some, but there were probably more people who were disgusted by it. In the articles they served a point to make, the thread had no real meaning besides disgusting people. Cause that's what it did. And I think the number of reports agree with me. Even though everything's not written in black white (although most is), some rules are implied, people should get that.Cheeze_Pavilion said:I think the problem here isn't the threads--it's that the community has turned to garbage. Seriously--why did people report that thread? It was an interesting question to make people think about gender and sexuality.chronobreak said:Our community sets the standards for the threads we want here, and the moderators typically enforce threads the community deems inappropriate, if I am correct. If enough people report it, it wasn't worthy of discussion. It's not anything personal or anything.
My guess as to why so many people hit the report button? Too many people here are insecure about their sexuality and the question made them confront that fact.
That's kinda sad considering this started as a place with articles like this. Then beat the shit out of each other in things like Genre Wars. The point is that this forum has people on it ranging from 12 to over 40. This means that any given thread shouldn't offend individuals within that range from all kinds of social demographic, economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Might be, but it was offensive for many people, and if a thread offends people, that's a bad sign, and it shouldn't be on the forum. It was just immature. If I want that kind of childish stuff, I'll just go to the testosterone-filled dickheads at my school.Cheeze_Pavilion said:But it did have "real meaning besides disgusting people": it was an interesting question about gender and sexuality.crazyhaircut94 said:I'll take this one. Don't you think it would be a bad thing if the community was allowed to have threads that offended people? Then people could get away with anything as long as they kept themselves on the border of rule-breaking. And whether it's immature or not is a matter of opinion. I think it's immature, you don't. No opinion is fact, but clearly, more people thought it was immature and offensive, thus the thread got locked. The mods are just trying to keep the forum clean. And if somebody's offended, it's the mods' job to make sure it doesn't continue that way.Cheeze_Pavilion said:When did that become part of The Escapist rules, even the implied rules? It wasn't immature or childish, though--it was an interesting question that can be used to think more critically about the relationship between gender and sex and sexual orientation. It was just immature. If we are talking about the thread posted on page two, that was an incredibly immature thread, yes it may have had laughs in shock value, but it was still a stupid, pointless thread.Cheeze_Pavilion said:snip.
