Poll: Why shouldn't I convert to Islam?

Your name is Lenin, your avatar is Che, and you're talking about converting to Islam. In reality you can't just choose convert, you either believe it or you don't. If you have an experience which leads you to become converted then that's fair enough, but you can't just wake up one day and be like "Yea... thinking about getting me some faith in Islam".

man, this is a belief, i cannot give you reasons to convert, i cant give you a reason to live with your current fragile belief...all religion or what-not is a faith, a code, a belief for yourself. read the Koran, and if it seems like the right way then do your own personal research and be a Muslim. Alternatively, choose a more neutral faith. personally- i believe in angels/demons/gods/devils and i dropped it at that. do good and you're in the clear. but aye, thats my 2 cents.

Can't say I agree with the religion to put it bluntly, anything in which women are regulated to 2nd tier citizens isn't my cup of tea.

In what way does Islam treat women as second class citizens? Have you ever lived in a muslim country?

Thats because I just don't understand why my (good) friends would say not to do something without reason. Maybe there's something they won't tell me because... feelings/PC/IDK. But thats never gotten in the way of the internet so...

Oh granted, but how many half-hearted Muslims are there really? All my Muslims friends are pretty devout. Doesn't mean their bad people. But they still follow and buy into all the dogmatic hate. Quite sad really. I'm just thankful I'm an Atheist.

If you've actually studied Islam (and have potentially studied and compared other religions) and believe that it is true and what you personally agree with, there should be nothing stopping you from converting.

I thought, traditionally, Jewish people were considered by Islam to be "people of the book" and were to be, if not treated in a friendly manner, respected.

If you honestly believe that Islam is the one truth, then you should follow it. If you don't believe it, then you shouldn't. It's as simple as that. Faith cannot be dictated by those around you, it is a matter of belief or disbelief.

A better idea might be to ask your self 'why should I convert?'. Given that religion is a deeply personal matter it is probably best that you read the quran(spelling?) and compare it's teachings to your own personal beliefs (namely the ones pertaining to right and wrong) if you find them comparable and the teaching inspiring go for it.
