If you don't have any strong reason to convert then why bother. It could be said that you are toying with other people's beliefs just to grab attention for yourself.

3. Islam preaches that homosexuals and Jews should be stoned to death.
I thought, traditionally, Jewish people were considered by Islam to be "people of the book" and were to be, if not treated in a friendly manner, respected.
Traditionally yes.

However, preachings in modern times have differed somewhat.

Gotta ask why you want to follow it first.
Can't say I agree with the religion to put it bluntly, anything in which women are regulated to 2nd tier citizens isn't my cup of tea.
Have you looked at any Western religion? We're all pretty much the same patriarchal bastards.

Some of them put on airs: "Oh, no. Of course we respect you. We need to study to be holy, you're doing that just by being pregnant, barefoot, in the kitchen." That always sort of bugged me.
Not saying Christianity is always better, but just taking baptist methodist and such, that women are on equal ground as men.

In what way does Islam treat women as second class citizens? Have you ever lived in a muslim country?
Never lived but when a woman is sentanced to 200 lashes for being raped by 6 guys (in saudia arabia) (for the sin of being with a man not related to her) or when women can me punished for attire or limited in rights, then yeah 2nd tier citizens.

I don't care either way. Whatever works for you is the best. If it's mindless devotion and believing that a book is more important than your friends, family and your wife then so be it. I'm not gonna stop you or tell you what to do.

So we're taking the words of extremist preachers as the voice of all of Islam? That doesn't seem fair.

Well if you want to be part of a religion that treats women like cattle and support a law system that we (westerners) stopped using in the middle ages then be my guest.

1. God isn't real.

2. Islam oppresses women.

3. Islam preaches that homosexuals and Jews should be stoned to death.

Many many others, but you asked for 3.
Ladies and gentlemen, let the Islamophobia begin!
Not Islamophobia, my opinion. Which the OP asked for.

I hate all religions equally.
You also seem to get all of your facts regarding Islam from Fox news.
Prove me wrong.

And for the record, yes, Islam is a peaceful religion in essence, however, modern preachings of hate etc. make me sick, and I can't stand it.(I live in the UK, where places of worship have people who preach hate [see point 3] )

Never said they spoke for them all, however, in many places of worships, young muslims are influenced to hate those different. While i'm not saying "all Islam" supports it. You can't tell me they don't know whats being preached in their places of worship.

Anywho, it's off topic now. Ultimately, it's up to the OP.

You think, maybe, there might be "reform" sects of Islam? I mean, it's not like there's just one type of Christianity or Judaism. We're all, traditionally, very patriarchal. Why put all of Islam in the patriarchal bin, while excluding the more progressive bits of Christianity?

Lets call this topic what it really is:
"Poll: why shouldnt I be an attention whore?"

people saying "oh you shouldnt do this cause of the women and gays"
HE HAS CHE IN HIS AVATAR

its not damn different, che also executed gays

funny enough, che also murdered dissenters, so that goes with islam too.

now, ive got no problem with muslims, decent ones, at least, after all, christians, jews, and muslims, all share the same book, but all have different endings, but radicals, those are the problems, with the OP's name and avatar, its plain to see he just wants to kill himself for virgins :D

gtfo, you ignorant fascist wannabe, you dont know who che is, you dont know who lenin is, you dont know what islam is, you dont know anything, youve proved it by even posting this.

i have no problem what you believe, but stop trying to use politics and religion as a friggin fashion.

So, you're just going to take the words of a few extremists and use them to judge 2 bilion people? Hey you know what, I just heard the preachings of the Westboro Baptist Church, I'm now going to go out on a limb and say all Christians are a bunch of jerks and assholes.

Oh, and I would like to see the passage of the Quran that states that you should stone Jews.

I won't pretend to know exactly how Islam works, since I've met Arabs from different countries/regions who described their faith quite differently. And since they - creators of today's Islam - can't form single agreement... You know the rest.

However, please consider this simple warning : There is NO easy way out of Islam.

It's not some WoW guild. Noone will care if you'll lose your faith. Think of it. Now you're young, but you have plenty of years before you. There are many things and many faces of world you don't know yet. Also people, fellow believers. While many Muslims are actually good and honest people, there are also some fanatical radicals with really bad attitude. They will become part of your world, believe it or not.

Choose wisely before joining, and think about alternatives - there are some post-Islam religions like Baha'i for example. They have many strengths of Islam and lack some of its biggest weaknesses.

It is if you just plain out make up facts about said religion.
Granted it was a pretty poorly exectuted argument(which I didn't actually make). But a few key points are true. Women do get a raw deal in the Islamic world. Abrahamic religions do despise homosexuals. For me the treatment of women, by itself is plenty to justify not liking it.

You said "Islam preaches..."

You think all devout muslims are gung-ho about stoning Jews? Just because a few preachers, in a xenophobic country, aren't tolerant of people who are different doesn't mean that's the official point of view. Comprende?

I'm thinking about following Islam but my friends keep telling me not to. When I ask them to give me three reasons not to, they can't think of anything. So I am essentially looking for three reasons I should not become a Muslim.
Masha'Allah and good luck to you. Saying shahadah is a big deal. My advice for what it's worth, go see your local Imam and talk to him. Tell him you're thinking of reverting, but you're nervous because it's a big decision. He'll be able to provide you with/point you in the direction of literature that'll help you make your decision.

One word of caution. A large amount of literature out there is wahabist and may well annoy you (It sure as hell does me). If you use Qu'ran and the hadith as your guidance and develop your own understanding you won't go wrong.

Good to see there are some voices of reason on this thread. When you get most of your exposure to a religion through Fox News, and take the actions/teachings of a very small minority of people as the true teachings of a religion, then you reach the territory of undeserved generalizations.

Obviously not all Christians treat women as property, but some do. Same as Islam. Some parts of the Islamic world treat women as second class citizens, while the vast majority doesn't. You have problems when Christianity is painted by the same broad brush based on the actions of a few, and then you turn around and do the exact same thing and say all Muslims treat women as second class citizens. Kinda hypocritical don't ya think?
