If you don't have any strong reason to convert then why bother. It could be said that you are toying with other people's beliefs just to grab attention for yourself.

Not saying Christianity is always better, but just taking baptist methodist and such, that women are on equal ground as men.ThrobbingEgo said:Have you looked at any Western religion? We're all pretty much the same patriarchal bastards.sneakypenguin said:Gotta ask why you want to follow it first.
Can't say I agree with the religion to put it bluntly, anything in which women are regulated to 2nd tier citizens isn't my cup of tea.
Some of them put on airs: "Oh, no. Of course we respect you. We need to study to be holy, you're doing that just by being pregnant, barefoot, in the kitchen." That always sort of bugged me.
Never lived but when a woman is sentanced to 200 lashes for being raped by 6 guys (in saudia arabia) (for the sin of being with a man not related to her) or when women can me punished for attire or limited in rights, then yeah 2nd tier citizens.lenin_117 said:In what way does Islam treat women as second class citizens? It is if you just plain out make up facts about said religion.Sexual Harassment Panda said:It's not a phobia if you know why don't like it.
So we're taking the words of extremist preachers as the voice of all of Islam? That doesn't seem fair.Ghostkai said:Traditionally yes.ThrobbingEgo said:I thought, traditionally, Jewish people were considered by Islam to be "people of the book" and were to be, if not treated in a friendly manner, respected.Ghostkai said:3. However, preachings in modern times have differed somewhat.

Many many others, but you asked for 3.
I hate all religions equally.
Never said they spoke for them all, however, in many places of worships, young muslims are influenced to hate those different. While i'm not saying "all Islam" supports it. You can't tell me they don't know whats being preached in their places of worship.ThrobbingEgo said:So we're taking the words of extremist preachers as the voice of all of Islam? You think, maybe, there might be "reform" sects of Islam? I mean, it's not like there's just one type of Christianity or Judaism. We're all, traditionally, very patriarchal. Why put all of Islam in the patriarchal bin, while excluding the more progressive bits of Christianity?sneakypenguin said:Not saying Christianity is always better, but just taking baptist methodist and such, that women are on equal ground as men.ThrobbingEgo said:Have you looked at any Western religion? So, you're just going to take the words of a few extremists and use them to judge 2 bilion people? Hey you know what, I just heard the preachings of the Westboro Baptist Church, I'm now going to go out on a limb and say all Christians are a bunch of jerks and assholes.Ghostkai said:Prove me wrong.
And for the record, yes, Islam is a peaceful religion in essence, however, modern preachings of hate etc. make me sick, and I can't stand it.(I live in the UK, where places of worship have people who preach hate [see point 3] )
Granted it was a pretty poorly exectuted argument(which I didn't actually make). But a few key points are true. Women do get a raw deal in the Islamic world. Abrahamic religions do despise homosexuals. For me the treatment of women, by itself is plenty to justify not liking it.The infamous SCAMola said:It is if you just plain out make up facts about said religion.Sexual Harassment Panda said:It's not a phobia if you know why don't like it.

Masha'Allah and good luck to you. Saying shahadah is a big deal. My advice for what it's worth, go see your local Imam and talk to him. Tell him you're thinking of reverting, but you're nervous because it's a big decision. He'll be able to provide you with/point you in the direction of literature that'll help you make your decision.lenin_117 said:I'm thinking about following Islam but my friends keep telling me not to. When I ask them to give me three reasons not to, they can't think of anything. So I am essentially looking for three reasons I should not become a Muslim.
The Noble Qu said:There is no compulsion in religion, for the right way is clearly from the wrong way.
Obviously not all Christians treat women as property, but some do. Same as Islam. Some parts of the Islamic world treat women as second class citizens, while the vast majority doesn't. You have problems when Christianity is painted by the same broad brush based on the actions of a few, and then you turn around and do the exact same thing and say all Muslims treat women as second class citizens. Kinda hypocritical don't ya think?sneakypenguin said:Not saying Christianity is always better, but just taking baptist methodist and such, that women are on equal ground as men.
