I've said it before and I'll say it again... If anyone can do it Bioware can.
the bioware that wrote mordin, legion, and tali, or the bioware that wrote everything else in me2?

I've really liked the ME series so far
And I've liked both KoTR games. Buut, I'm not too big on the mmo scene

So, I'm excited for ME3.

ToR is leaving me at the "Cautiously optimistic" line.

If people actually followed TOR, they'd have a different opinion. The devs are great and they're staying true to the BioWare style in an MMO setting. Can't wait for it to come out. I'll try to play it at E3 if I can and get a clearer picture of how it plays/feels.

From what I've seen of the Old Republic, it is going to get snuffed out by Rift, Guild Wars 2, and, the reigning champion, WoW
WoW is decaying and Rift is going to look like an expansion pack compared to TOR. I've played up to level 31 and it's just a one track world with nothing new added to combat beyond the option of which redundant skills to fill your action bars with. It's a decent enough game to tide me over until TOR, but it won't compare.

GW2 still needs to prove itself, but it does look cool. It's banking on dynamic events to be fun, whereas TOR is focusing on the class narrative. It's a different approach.

I didn't like the main story in ME2, plot wise it was ridiculous at some points, to the point of being frustratingly so. Also, ME2 was pretty bad when it came to being an RPG (Great game overall though) ME1 didn't have that problem for me (Of course, ME1 just isn't fun to play, but it did have a much better main plot with less glaring plot holes). Of course ME2 made up for it by having some excellent characters and sidequests. For me, however ME3 needs to be a better RPG and have a better story, and honestly after DA2 I've started to doubt BioWare.

I still think TOR is going to kick ass though. While the gameplay looks rather dull, and honestly I wish it was just KOTOR 3 instead of an MMO, I really like some of the ideas being used. Hopefully, because both KOTOR games are my second favorite games (tied with each other) of all time.

There are two different studios working on mass effect 3 and dragon age 2. It's not like the same guy has to bug fix for DA2 before lunch and touch up the ME3 gui afterwards. Besides if they do stuff up mass effect 3 I will murder them and all their children.

Can't say I really care about The Old Republic, but I have high hopes for Mass Effect 3. I think they'll be just fine!

If anything I hope Dragon Age 2's reception and relatively poor sales will act as a refreshing wake-up call that will hopefully encourage the developer not to make the same mistakes again. Sometimes it takes a bit of tough love to encourage people to do their best, hopefully that analogy will work with multi-million dollar developers as well.

My prediction? Mass Effect 3 will be great, comparable to Mass Effect 2. Dragon Age 2 suffered because pulling in all the stuff from Mass Effect hurt it. The Mass Effect style just didn't work all that well in Dragon Age, and Dragon Age suffered because of it. Its worth it to experiment, but some times, experiments fall short. Mass Effect does not need to worry about becomin g too much like Mass Effect. The story should be fine because it's a continuity with the other stories, and Sequels generally have better gameplay then the original. Mass Effect 3 is a safe bet. Old Republic? Eh...that's a lot more dodgy. To many bits of bad news, cynical insiders and the like. Besides, WoW is too monolithic, and Guild Wars 2 has too much promise. I'm sure it won't be a complete flop, but I bet Bioware will have its share of disappointed employees when the numbers come in.

Dragon Age 2 was a success for me and I have great faith that Mass Effect 3 will be awesome[footnote]So much that I'm avoiding all ME3 previews and threads and am just gonna preorder the uber collector's edition on faith (and I rarely preorder. This will also be the first collector's edition I get for any game).[/footnote]. I don't care about The Old Republic. Or...I do, but it's more of a resentment I have for it not being Knights of the Old Republic 3. I won't be able to play it anyway when it comes out.

I'm hoping they pull it off. The Old Republic looks like a nice change from ye olde wow type mumorpugers and Mass Effect will be awesome as long as Joker is a LI

Really looking forward to November and I want it to hurry up! but then time has to go REALLLLLY SLOWLY until Feb cos that's when I'm 30 (If I don't have a party it totally doesn't count mkay).

Lucas Arts can make a trailer, but once you see the gameplay it looks the same as WoW. The only thing it seems to bring to the MMO table is being Star Wars

I have faith in bioware, its EA i dont have faith in, so no, I dont think they can do It. After all, it has been, like, one year since the last Mass Effect, and MMOs cant cant CANT be rushed (see FF XIV). EA likes to rush things, and when Bioware rushes things, we get Dragon Age II.

Am I the only one who doesn't think that the story in DA2 was terrible? I like that it bucks the standard fantasy story of YOU are the ONLY ONE who can defeat the ULTIMATE EVIL!! Which seems awfully cliched to me. Honestly the only thing that annoys me is the copy-pasted environments and the bugs, but every game is released with bugs these days. Also, I've never been a fan of silent protagonists when all of your companions have so much personality. But enough of that.

Yeah, they can do it. The Star Wars fanboys will be able to make the MMO profitable, and if they bring back my Mako and a bit more customization of equipment(ammo upgrades, not powers), I'll be happy.

First, If it's possible for anyone to do, it better damned well be possible for Bioware. That being said, I read somewhere that two different divisions are working on the games. This means they don't have to go with the "guns or bread" idea, but rather have each particular group focus on their one project. I mean, TOR is going to be based on multiplayer. Even if the Mass Effect designers were super geniuses (plot-wise they are) that doesn't mean they would do a better job than someone who works strictly with multiplayer. and vice versa. Yes, they might have to choose which one to put more funding into, but the obvious choice would be ME3. I'm not just being selfish here, but if a Single Player game is missing major elements, people will notice within the first few days. If an MMO game is missing major elements, as long as they're for the pretty advanced, they won't notice for a few weeks. More than enough time to fix the kinks in TOR. But that few days in ME3 could possible cost Bioware on sales.

TOR isn't going to sink, there are already 34,000 guilds created for this game, that's a lot of people planning to buy it

Bioware know what they're doing with ME3,
DA2 was almost experimental in its design, they tried to combine elements of ME with DA:O and they've learnt their lesson.
I have faith that ME3 will be epically ground-breaking, they've been with the series for two very good games now and Bioware won't want to destroy their little ME franchise.

However, if they do destroy it. I will be very very very upset and may commit mass genocide...

DA 2 was disappointing (and I wasn't the biggest fan of the first game). Mass Effect 3 should be awesome, I just hope they've had enough development time.

I don't play MMOs, wish we had gotten a proper KotOR 3 instead but that ship has sailed. It looks ok, but I can't see how it can make in-roads in the market.

I agree with you, I had a great time with DA2. Like you said, only downsides were the repeated environments and some bugs. Definitely didn't deserve to be panned by gamers.

I think BioWare makes these trailers. Except for the cinematic ones by Blur. Combat is based on the standard MMO model, yes. I fully accept that. What excites me about the game is eight BioWare stories, 16 advanced classes to choose from, 17 worlds, starships, companion characters with story and crafting uses, full voice-over, and an IP that's not another bloody high-fantasy world. Seriously, swinging a lightsaber instead of an axe and shooting a blaster rifle instead of a bow and arrow is going to feel so good.
