Guys, agentorange98 is only asking us to speculate with him. Nothing wrong with that. Surely I don't have to wait for a game to be released to take an interest.
I don't think Skyrim is going to tap the same nerve as OoT. Different times, different style, different audience. I do expect it to be tremendous and in general I much prefer The Elder Scrolls.

Well, unless it's been hyped for years and years, takes the elder scrolls up a visual dimension and happens to be one of the only really good games on a system for years, then I don't know how it could be...
Also I'm not holding my breath for skyrim, it will probably be a good game, but then again looking back at bethesda's history for making realllllly shit story telling as of late, I'm not really excited, just watchful, I enjoyed oblivion to an extent, but the storyline was such a boring slog I never finished it, Fallout 3 was alright but it didn't seem to fit in pretty much any fassion asside from it being all F'd up and irradiated, the story was pretty lame, and samey feeling, nothing really exciting, better voice acting and story telling than oblivion but still not too big of an improvement, of course obsidian got dibs on new vegas and made in my mind the true fallout 3, it had the fallout feel to it, not like fallout 3 which felt like it was making a serious attempt at aping the fallout canon but really falling short.
So unless they get a fresh cast of writers, and maybe put some REAL effort into the story this time,(which I haven't seen anything about all I've seen is them masturbating their engine at us, which shows me that it's fairly polished looking and that's it) my gut reaction is that it's just gonna be another "alright" game, so I'll wait and see, and maybe pick it up in a steam christmas sale if it's there for cheap-ish.
Nothing about it really screams "Legendary" or "Revolutionary", so I'm going with no it won't be this generations OoT.

I was hoping the light hearted part would come out when I pointed out that not only have people dug through the game enough to find uncompleted mission scripts that were cut from the game, but they have put time and effort in to speculating how they would have been completed and even trying to recreated them.
I mean I like the game, but there is a limit.

Don't get me wrong, I like zeda. I didn't have a NES or SNES so I missed a bunch of it, but the zelda I have played I liked. and maybe zelda would have been life changing for me if I had played it when it was released, but I personally think zork was more revolutionary than zelda.agentorange98 said:

It is the first game that I remeber that was completely mouse controlled. And I'm old enough that I use to play text based games that didn't even have bitmap graphics and I thought they were fun. (Some of them still are) There is a disk world Text base MUD that is pretty good.
Skyrim has been built up to the point where it is going to have to be SPECTACULAR or people are going to be disappointed, and lets face it, todays game industry doesn't do spectacular.
I'm hoping for good/great. Life changing? I wouldn't hold yer breath.

anyone is completely welcome to their opinions but we all know that bad mouthing a zelda game makes your more attractive cause you look bad ass like a cop who doesn't play by the rules and lets his gun do the talking and because at the moment I'm really pissed off at nostalgia blindness and movie bob in particular so in conclusion YAY anti-zelda comments iz be friend
Comparing Ocarina of Time and Elder Scrolls is an apples and oranges situation. Both Zelda and Elder Scrolls have groundbreaking titles. While Gothic may have been the earliest example the type of gameplay Morrowind has to offer, Morrowind wasn't plagued by the bugs Gothic titles have on their first release and has more intuitive control schemes and it is the first game of it's kind that most people remember. Even game developers copying the style probably don't realize that Gothic came first.
Ocarina of Time, on the other hand, is entirely different. It's not the RPG style of killing things to get stronger, it's finding items to get more abilities. You use those abilities to solve puzzles to advance further. The game gets more difficult and more complex as you progress.
While growing more powerful in Zelda games, I never lose the sense that I'm a relatively weak hero going up against a great threat like Frodo. I rarely gain powers, I just amass more tools. Elder Scrolls is a different experience. I start off practically helpless, but later become a god. The beginning is the hardest part of the game, then it gets easier.
I'm not drawing these comparisons to say one game is better than the other. I think of these games like pizza and burgers. Both are delicious, but depending on my mood, I'll choose one over the other. As for Skyrim, I think it'll be an awesome game with an epic story, but in terms of gameplay, I doubt it will change that much from Oblivion in terms of gameplay. It's not going to be as gargantuan a difference between Daggerfall and Morrowind.

On topic, no it will not be the new Ocarina of time for this generation, as that is already Ocarina of time on the 3ds. badum-tish.
Seriously though, it's not the same... well same everything actually. I'll be genuinly suprised if there is a water temple in Skryim (And yes, do call me out on that, cuz I'll be dead curious about it.) And it will not be the same. Will it be an epic game for those who love the gamestyle and type? Yes, yes it will. Will it get high grades (90+)? Yes, most likely.
Will I spend 500+ hours on it? Definitly.
But lots of people will say "ah this game sucks". Because if it's not your type o game, it's just not your type of game (like minecraft for example)
Industry doesn't do spectacular? Maybe you missed Mass Effect 2, Portal Series, Bioshock, Dragon Age, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2 and 3, HeavyRain/AlanWake (personal choice), Psychonauts, Shadow of the Collosus, Persona Series, COD4, Arkham City, Twilight Princess, Okami, and so many many many more.
So question to all, is everyone just in agreement that no game could ever beat Ocarina of Time, it's just the undefeatable lord of the games and will forever be considered the best game there is? and on that note we all agree that Ocarina of Time is in no way an RPG right?

As much as I am looking forward to it, it will sadly not.
I don't think such a leap is POSSIBLE anymore. We have 3D. Honestly, the next step is some kind of holodeck or brain-powered game, and I doubt games will have that impact when those things come along.
Ocarina of Time was a game that not only survived the jump to 3D (Twice!), but also transcended it and changed its genre in ways that are still felt today.
Ask yourself this:
Would modern adventure games be where they are today without Ocarina of Time? Probably not.
Do you think Skyrim will bring that kind of innovation to the table? Doubtful. There's nothing to innovate. We're on the same platforms we were four years ago (For the most part) just with shinier graphics.
Skyrim is, as awesome as it looks, a modern adventure-RPG, and has Ocarina of Time to thank, at least a little bit.
I don't think such a leap is POSSIBLE anymore. We have 3D. Honestly, the next step is some kind of holodeck or brain-powered game, and I doubt games will have that impact when those things come along.
