i was looking at the list of RTS'S that are coming out on consoles over the next year or so and i was wondering, will a console strategy game ever be as good as it is on the pc i mean with all the innovation being brought to the table with titles like end war (voice command) and worl in conflict (no base building) could the "perfect" console RTS be just on the horizon?

Really the only answer to this question is "Eventually." End War is certainly a step in the right direction, what with the voice command and all that. Until we get really, really perfect voice technology (does that exist yet?) then the RTS will remain on your PC.

I just can't see how you could easily select units with a console controller, or move your cursor fast enough, other than a totally new controller or through voice. Still, screaming orders into the mike might be kind of fun. Unless the voice command interperets it wrong.

You might be able to do a good RTS with the Wii controller, now that I think about it. The thing acts like a mouse sometimes anyway, it's not much of a strech to make a good RTS with it...

Damn, now I want to change my vote from Eventually to Yes. I need to stop overthinking these things.

End War (Endwar?) will be awesome if motivational speeches makes your units do more damage.

World in Conflict might actualy work out, since you dont realy use alot of units at once. Since you mostly use only one type on units in multiplayer a "mark all" button would work great.

I was just thinking about the Wii controller possibilities as well. It could work for a mild RTS with fewer units. But I think any console RTS will need each unit to act more intelligently and more independently. It's hard to beat the mouse though.

i forgot to mention halo wars but the idea of a wii RTS is intresting it would probaly work well with games like company of heroes that have you controling only a few units at any one time and the battles in that where mostly small close quarters afairs with out to much backward and forwarding.

on a side note they are currently in the procces of transfering supreme commander over to console land and that is the one that i think we should all keep an eye on after i played it on the pc i think that if they can get a controle system in place that controle battles on that scale then we could put this argument to bed

Porting SupCom to consoles? Really? That game is near impossible with a mouse. Great game, but involved as hell. I cannot fathom the mental state of someone who thinks that's a good a idea.

I doubt it. Not for any particular reason, but just because RTS seems to be a uniquely PC thing. Who knows, though. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

RTS on the Wii would be incredibly fun, intuitive, and easy.

The biggest problem with RTS on consoles is that you can't do more accurate clickings, especially when the things you are fighting are smaller.

I voted no, then read the comments about the Wii. Wish I could recast it to "Eventually". Though, I doubt companies will release a good RTS on the Wii until its proven itself (for RTSes), which it won't be able to do without a good RTS being released for it. Catch-22.

Heh, the Wii might pave the way for console RTSs, but I think that End War and Halo Wars have real shots at getting RTSs on the console, because they have voice commands, and are built by some very experienced RTS devs, respectively.

Say, I just remembered something. Wasn't Battalion Wars II a RTS made for the Wii? Does anyone know if that was any good?

The only "good" RTS on a console looks to be Endwar and thats not out yet.

The WiiMote would be an interesting way of playing an RTS.

On a side note: many of the First RTS are available on a console. Fairly ironic that.

command and conquer three, even though it is better on PC but it is pretty awesome. i also think that Halo wars will be good but then i would prefer a halo 4 just to see what that planet master chief was flying towards at the end of the legendary missions
