Ya I'm going to do it. Why? Because for almost two years I've enjoyed the site and what it has offered me. I've had fun on the Forums, enjoyed video content and read interesting articles for almost two years for absolutely free. Now I get to support the community by paying what ten dollars? That's not a huge deal for me, even with a low paying job. I believe in paying for good work and in my opinion this is good work. Hell I would pay anyways because I like the site and it going and to those who are leaving, really? Literally that's all I have to say to that.

I decided to go ahead and do it. Not for the perks- although I'll certainly put them to use, and thank you very much- but I decided that the Escapist is awesome enough for me to want to toss a few quid into their exceedingly spiffy hat.

Seriously, I've had but one opportunity to deal with their "behind-the-scenes" folks- when I ran into a minor problem after being a winner in the GameX contest- and their customer service was so excellent that it left a lasting impression on me. So spend that ten bucks well, Escapist. Maybe get some donuts. You deserve it.

Apart from me being slightly Jealous because my work makes me wear a suit, Noted.

are working right next to the people who run all the community events. We deeply apologize for wanting to be able to continue to pay our contributors to provide the best gaming-relating content on the web to everyone, and to be just a bit less beholden on advertising dollars. The entire point is to let the community give back to the site, which we'll use to provide better features - to you all. That's the whole point of it.

Nobody is being forced to do it; you'll get the exact same user experience you have now if you decide the value isn't worth it to you - which is a perfectly valid opinion. We'll be continuing to give you everything you loved, we'll just be able to give the community some stuff we're thrilled about being able to give them... but it's stuff that costs money to produce.

We like giving you guys awesome stuff. We like being able to keep the lights on in the office.

Also, uh, you really don't seem to notice how ads work these days. It isn't like we get a set amount of money for every view; that's not how advertising revenue works on large scale sites.

I was going too put counterpoints to all the points you made, But i think i could sum up my opinion.

Microtransactions. Sooner or later, The Escapist (as a business) will incorperate microtransactions into the membership, Be that a "$1 for Badge of X", or even for Title name changes.

Putting in a "members only" area would split some of the community.

I can see how it works, And if i was running a business then you can see how it works, But im left with the feeling that if i dont pay, my experience here would be watered down, and possibly in the long run the "non-members" facilities will be reduced.

In all honesty, Ill admit I do not read the articles written, Except on occasion. When i do they're written to a high standard and usually contain valid points. What i do read religiously are the News Posts.

Im in a bad situation now, I can forsee things coming that I do not like, But i can see valid reasoning behind.

Yup. Most of the features don't matter to me though. But I do appreciate The Escapist. Both as a website and as a source of entertainment.

I'd say that's worth ten bucks, or ?7.36 as is my case.
