Which would you rather do, go under and have no experiences of the extraction and stay awake. I just had my wisdom teeth pulled Saturday and i stayed up. The experience wasn't bad at all. The truth is, by going under, you actually subject yourself to more pain because after doing it your entire body hurts. I didn't hurt at all because of the novacaine. I stopped bleeding around 1 the same day. I never had much pain, but then again i am good with pain. What would you do?

I'm not sure what I'd do. All 4 of my wisdom teeth are impacted so I imagine I'll need to get them removed eventually. I think I'd rather be knocked out just so I don't feel completely bored during the operation. But then I would like to know what's going on. It's a difficult decision.

I had 4 teeth out under novacaine when I was young, when you wake up it does really suck! But I'm not a fan of local anaesthetic either, the dentist had to push him knee into my chest to get the necessary leverage to crack the roots that way. I almost choked on very thick spit after that. I am not at all someone who spits on the street habitually. But that stuff was too thick to swallow so I gobbed it out, but it was too thick to break and got taken by the wind. I had at least 6 feet of blood/saliva/gauze trailing out of my mouth at a 90 degree angle thanks to living in windy, cold England. I panicked and broke it with my finger, it flew off and hit someones car...I'm a little ashamed.

I already got my wisdom teeth pulled. I went under and although I had no memory of the experience, at the time it was like I could still feel and hear everything that was going on. The gas kind of has the same effect as morphine, you still know mostly whats going and you still feel pain on but you really don't care at all.

The worst part is the next week afterwards. the first few days you can't even take a drink without spilling half of it on yourself and you can't eat solid food for a while either... but it's really just for a week at the longest. you'll forget it even happened after a month or so.

I had all four yanked at the same time as an adult. I had them put me out. I had worked a few late nights prior and actually woke myself up with a loud snort to find the guy cranking on my head getting the last tooth out. There was no body pain, just a general soreness where my teeth used to be. They gave me a bucket of T3s that found their way to friends who were migraine sufferers. The only thing that bothered me was squirting water in the holes to keep them clean while they healed. Sometimes it felt like I hit a raw nerve or something, but other than that, I was eating steak within a couple of days. ;-)

Maybe that's just how you react to anaesthetic? I had stopped bleeding by the time I woke up and afterwards my entire body didn't hurt...

So I much preferred being knocked out.

I haven't had mine out yet, they're coming through and all but haven't given me any problems. I'd rather go under, though. At least dentistry is free for me, my boyfriend lives in the US and had to pay about $1000 just to have his 4 wisdom teeth removed.

I can deal with pain just fine, but I am squeamish (god that sounds weird coming from me) about some things such as needles and drills that I cannot control but will have an effect on me. The problem would only come about if somebody tried to knock me out by injection anesthetic (as that dentist found out a couple of years ago).

Go under. The psychadelic dreams I get are totally worth the blurry vision and hurtful body.

I have to have them surgically removed one of these days so I'd thing I'd have to go under I think. I have no idea what's involved with that

I went under. They had to cut deep into the gums to get mine out. Balls to that, I said before they stuck me with anesthetic.

Id have to go under, for some reason my body breaks down painkillers like novacain. Not that it matters now, I got mine surgically removed (as in they cut open my gums and drilled them out).

My dentist is pure evil, I never get enough anesthetic, so I would opt to be put to sleep, means less pain.

I got my wisdom teeth removed during a separate jaw surgery. I was under, and I didn't have too much jaw pain because of the removal as much as I did for the surgery related stuff. I didn't use the painkillers and the pain wasn't that bad.

The swelling was far worse.

Ya know, my sister got hers taken out a few years ago...
She was bedridden for over a week, and was exhausted for quite a while after. Her jaw itself got infected.

Yes, I am terrified of it.

If my dentist ever tells me that I should get my wisdom teeth pulled without a good reason, it's going to lead to a punch in the face, but I'd rather go under. It's safer for all parties involved.
