The hell...why are people even supporting this?

'It was going to be euthanised anyway'

Fine. Let the vets euthanise it. They'll at least do it cleanly.

'It was dead, what's the problem?'

It's dead, yes, but it's still a thirty-two year old animal, that would have meant a lot to people. What if you looked after that horse for most, if not all, of your life, and sell it to some young couple who naturally wouldn't have told you exactly why they wanted it. Then they shoot it and take pictures, naked, inside your companion? You're telling me that THAT isn't wrong?

'They killed it humanely, it's not abuse'

Right. There are a thousand things wrong with this. Killing an animal so you may pose inside it is NOT humane. The method may have been, but it's still fucking murder. Yes. I eat meat. I understand that the animals killed for meat aren't always killed in the most humane of ways...but I'm not here to debate that. The point is this. Killing an animal for food is fine, because you intend to fucking eat it. It is NOT morally justifiable to kill animals just because you did it humanely. To justify it in that way is bordering on psychopathy.

'Han Solo did it in Star Wars, nobody cared then'

That was because Luke would have frozen to death otherwise...I'm not sure how you can use this as an argument.

Shock art: when you can't succeed on artistic merit alone.

Disgusting, revolting, appalling, and other such words.
It isn't intended as art. It's good ol' curiosity, mixed with a little "why the hell not". And indeed: why the hell not? It's her life.

She might've figured a bit earlier though that not everyone would think that particular idea tasteful.

She's really hot too, what the fuck?

edit: if you read the story, the horse was 32 years old(very old in horse years), and was scheduled to be killed already, and they killed it humanely with no pain. The chick is batshit insane but she really didn't break any laws, stop making a big deal.
Mate I'm not being funny but shooting a horse in the head is a pretty big deal, especially when you are not trained to do it! Which they were not. The article said they bought it after looking after it (?) and shot it. They are NOT vets and surely cannot go around shooting horses 'just like that!?' with no repercusions. Had it gone wrong it would've been incledibly painful. They are VERY disturbed individuals that need a night or 2 on a psychiatric ward.
And like I said in a previous post, 32 really is not THAT old for a horse anymore.

No Empire joke yet? Huh...
Probably because the girl already covered that one herself...

From the Seattle Weekly Blog said:
The reason for climbing inside the animal was later explained to deputies as Lottin's desire to "be one with the animal."

That and her love of Star Wars.

From the police report:

Lottin said in the movie Star Wars the character Han Solo cut open and animal with his light saber and placed Luke Skywalker inside the animal. This was due to Luke freezing to death in cold weather. Lottin said there was nothing religious about what she did and didn't intend to offend anyone.
Isn't "Jedi" a religion now?

Edited to add: The fact they bought it to murder it with a rifle is disgusting....A horse on my yard got put down by being shot...It was a botched job and took 3 bullets to kill him. Heartbreaking. I have no more words...
Better a rifle than a knife. This horse could have suffered much worse treatment.

Anyone who eats meat and condemns this is a hypocrite. We seem to arbitrarily think one species is more "cute" and deserves a better life, while every day cows, pigs, chickens, and other such "not cute" animals are slaughtered by the thousands for us to eat. Most of those animals will live a shitty life and get an even worse death that makes a .300 win mag to the skull sound kind. So she climbed into the corpse and took photos? It's dead, if I was dead I wouldn't care what happened to me, because I'd be DEAD.

Oh, and for the record, I'm a very happy omnivore, I just hate hypocrisy.

EDIT: People who make death threats over this are retarded. It's a goddamn animal, have some respect for your own species, even if they do weird things. It's their life.

Nope. If its old, in poor health and they killed it quickly without causing it undue pain or stress then its not so different from having your pet put down.

What she did afterwards is pretty fucked up, but in no way a crime.

I don't like it or agree with it but there it is.

Okay, look, I'm just saying.

Do you know how animals in meat processing facilities are treated? Chickens have their beaks cut off because their living conditions literally drive them to insanity and they will attack themselves or each other. Cows killed by unclean slices across the throat and then left to bleed out over a period of hours while hanging by their toes. Piglets fed such a massive quantity of growth hormones that their legs break under their bodies and they languish in pain until they have their heads bashed in by workers who are hired to do just that, it happens so often.

You animal rights people want to get angry? Get angry at that. That is messed up. Write letters. Become a vegetarian.

This horse had a way better life AND death than ANY hamburger or bacon cheese or mcnuggets you have ever eaten, and you're a hypocrite.

Creepy? Absolutely. A crime? Not so much... We already have too many laws, no need to put another on the books just because its offensive to people.

No.

It's...her choice, the animal was killed humanly, so no one was really getting hurt.

Gore sort of, makes me a little sick to be honest, but it hurt no one, I think.

It is not a crime nor should it be. It was not animal cruelty (you are allowed to swiftly kill animals you own). They were within their right to do so what they did, just as a farmer is within their right to slaughter their Cows, Chickens, Pigs, and so forth. They bought it with the plan to eat it I believe and the fetish pics were just extra.

Getting nude and crawling inside the carcass is the only thing that makes this story sensational. While this is both creepy and unsanitary it is also not a crime if you happen to own said carcass.

Do I like what they did? No, but I am able to get past that disgust and recognize what they did was not unlawful or inherently wrong.

Legally, they can. The matter has already been investigated and they didn't do anything illegal. The police said so.

The fact of the matter is that the shooting didn't go wrong. And are you aware how many much younger racing horses are put down when they receive recoverable injuries because "they'll never be able to compete again"? The horse was fairly old and its health was faltering.

I'd also like to point out that there aren't standardized practices for injection euthanasia. It might looks peaceful, but some animals are put down with a fatal shot of paralytic. They're completely conscious and aware as they suffocate.

Animal abuse is already a crime.
By the sounds of it it wasn't abused, but merely shot.

OT: Not what I would do, but it was their corpse. They can do what they like with it.

Absolutely not! Laws were made to protect human beings, not animals. If somebody gets a kick out of killing or otherwise exploiting the animals that they rightfully own, nobody has the right to tell them not to. On the other hand, I suspect this woman may have some mental issues if she has such a fascination with disembowelment. I think that in cases like this, such things should not be a crime, but I think she should be required to be examined by a therapist to determine if she has any potential to turn such violence towards humans. If so, she should closely monitored and medicated, and if not, let her be.
