?The sex doll industry was effective at creating very expensive and somewhat realistic dolls ? but many people were telling us it was like their dolls were ?catatonic?, like they were injured and unable to speak and interact. They wanted to have their dolls become interactive and be their friends..."
Wow, these people are willing to invest that much time and money into sex with robots, but not sex with people?

This...is surely a moment of great unity, as humanity facepalms as one.
It's all about the revenue, and this is an untapped market...
Pun intended?

still, won't legal ones have to lay around for 16 or so years before legal to use..?
I didn't think anyone would get it...

Good eye comrade...

I was thinking the EXACT same thing... Buffy Bot was hilarious though.

I think it's incredibly sad that someone would be that desperate to buy a "robot" for "companionship", as opposed to seeking out a living human being.

It is NOT in any way, shape, or form the downfall of humanity. There are billions of people on this planet. The market for this thing isn't big enough to produce the number of sexbots to enslave humanity or prevent it from reproducing. Heck, it's not even a real robot -- it's just a hi-tech blowup doll.

EDIT: Finally loaded the page, wasn't impressed.

These are the main parts that concern me.

I mean, I'm all for progress - and since sex is a big buisness, it seems appropriate that robotics should at some point address the most basic of all human wants.

But I don't think it's healthy for a human being to be attatched to a sex-robot emotionally. In some ways I can see why a person might turn to something like this, but we're not exactly good enough with robots to replicate Blade Runner.

Right now, I don't mind these things existing, but I find the idea of someone emotionally connecting to a machine a little disturbing.
People emotionally connect to simple unliving objects. To imaginary concepts. To fuckin' unintelligent animals.

Now do tell me, if it's such a horrible thing, how is it any worse then what I've already said?
I don't believe I ever stated that it was 'such a horrible thing'. Saying that I find something disturbing is a matter of my own morality, and I fail to see why that should annoy you. It's not like I'm throwing eggs at abortion clinics, here.

Although you do bring up a good point, I'd argue that an emotional attatchment to any of those things is basically unhealthy. Concepts, dogs, cats, robots, pieces of the Berlin Wall: none of these things can really return to you the emotion that you give to them.

True, in some cases the emotion is purely platonic, and in these cases I'd argue that there is nothing 'horrible' to be seen. But in the cases where people become genuinely infatuated with something that cannot feel the same way, I'd argue that this relationship is unhealthy.
You want to argue that dogs and cats can't return emotion to you?
Have you ever actually had one? And if so, did you treat it well? Because having an emoitonal connection to an animal is in no way unhealthy, and the emotion that they show you back is a great thing to recieve.

Note: Nothing sexual, that's just wrong.

The population will dwindle into extinction when the price eventually hits $500.
you're saying that's a bad thing? the world is over-populated, and only truly depraved people would by this. this might be a good thing, as only people (well, those who can afford/had morals allowing them to buy it) wanting to reproduce will have sex with another person, reducing the number of children born to uncaring or unprepared parents, the abortion issue will almost vanish, and quite possibly teenage pregnancies will diminish.
Teenage pregnancy would remain unneffected, as teens are too young to purchace such an object. Abortion would not vanish, because people who are getting laid one way or another from something capable of getting pregnant would not likely purchace suhc a product. The number of children born to uncaring or unprepared parents would not go down because these parents are usually too poor to afford such a product.

remember. this is all hypothetical.

Yes, I've a dog. His name is Tyler. Named after Tyler Durden, who he's ironicly the exact opposite of.

And yes, I'd say that dogs and cats can't return the same amount of emotion that you can give to them. And to that end, I'd say that it is wrong to love an animal in the same way that humans can love each other.

That thing's face is just creepy. It's supposed to be a turn-on, but I'm thinking having a doll talk to me would kinda have the opposite effect.

What is being billed as the world?s first sex robot has been unveiled at a Las Vegas porn expo.

The unit, classily dubbed Roxxxy, was unveiled by maker TrueCompanion at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo.

The creator and CEO, an AI engineer, describes the bot:

?She can?t vacuum, she can?t cook but she can do almost anything else if you know what I mean.

She?s a companion. She has a personality. She hears you. She listens to you. She speaks. She feels your touch. She goes to sleep. We are trying to replicate a personality of a person.?
Can't vacuum, can't cook and speaks? Yeah I'm gonna have to go with no on this one thanks anyway.

Im deeply disturbed by the very thought of the fact that thiers a market for such creepy things, and the fact that if I hadn't read the article and understood that they were robots, I could honestly mistake one of those images for a picture of a human being. and then thiers the idea of someone in any sense of the word "interacting" with one of those things

Yeah... creepy.

Seriously, I'd sooner spend the money on one of those "normal ultra realistic" ones than on that. Even if they were the same price...

...That thing is just creepy... It looks like it'll star in a horror movie rather than a porno.
