Inspired by this video: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/aimee_mullins_prosthetic_aesthetics.html

And the end of this video: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/pattie_maes_demos_the_sixth_sense.html

When the technology for replacement limbs surpasses what we're born with, would you "upgrade" your human limbs with robotic implants? Would you install a chip in your brain, for wireless internet access perhaps; maybe just expand your memory; finally say goodbye to that plasma screen TV? How far would you go in terms of human parts replacement, and why?

nowhere, somethings gonna go wrong down the line

make something failproof means its just harder to fix when it breaks...

I would definitely get memory implants, as well as cybernetic limbs. I would keep my actual brain, though.

I think artificial limbs would be nice, but the brain is a more delicate organ so I'd like them to leave that alone. I'm too afraid of them breaking and me losing my mind.

It depends on how well-proven and what types of mental implants, but I need to feel. I'm an artist.

Anyway, isn't that what exoskeletons are for?

I would as long as the neural implants don't allow them to control me/read my thoughts and the limbs aren't too heavy. I guess God might hate me for it, though.

Natural human beings have a 100% failure rate. Just saying.

I'd be okay with some upgrades, i.e. a cybernetic eye or enhanced memory...
Some inner organs, too, like an extra heart or detoxifying liver.
But no internet access or anything else that'd connect me to a network. Networks are always dangerous access points for hackers and the like...
I also wouldn't want to be obviously a cyborg (from the outside), so no stuff like entire limbs.

I can see it now: Hipsters saying, "Get a brainmac."

I would replace my finger with a swiss army knife if it was cut off, but I wouldn't mess about implanting wires and stuff because thats bound to end badly.

I would but as long as my cyborg pieces remain away from access to the internet, due to hackers, viruses and anything else
Oh and because mechanics is easy to get a degree in then medicine so there would be more people to fix me up when I break :)
Oh and it would be just kick arse too

When the technology comes out to actually replace and surpass actual human limbs (full metal alchemist Edward Elrich sp.? i know his arent robotic per-se but you catch my drift) I will be the first to sign up. The ability to jump un-feasable heights and just the raw power and badassery that that would imbue would be so amazing. Id be iffy on brain implants though, mind control and all that but i would probably get that too for the added lightning quick reaction time and whatnot.

So to sum it up it has been a dream of mine to become a cyborg!!!

YES.

Also there's a cool looking book that talks about cyborgs and where technology is going in that area and what we can expect to see in a realistic timeline. Towards the end of the book, he makes the case that with things like hearing aids, contact lenses and some other devices, we are, in essence, already cyborgs.

I'd make it so I could turn one arm into a chainsaw and the other into a gatling gun, and having Wikipedia in my head would be cool too.
