I'd select both "Yes" and "I belong to PC Gaming Master Race."

At present I really want an Xbox 360 so I can finally enjoy playing a damned Smackdown Vs Raw game with better graphics than the PS2 version I'm playing on my PC. Factoring game resale into it...yeah, I'd still buy the Xbox or whatever even if I couldn't resell the game because that's what I've always been doing as a PC gamer anyway. It's an element of risk, but I think is also representative of quality control. I don't buy a game based on hype or whatever--I do research first, and then make my decision on whether or not I want my money to go to the company or whatever.

I did eventually sell my old consoles with all their games, Most of the games I find worthwhile are also on the computer or at least emulated(except most fighting games unfortunately.). I wouldn't mind to be fair, I already deal with Steam and Origin anyway, then again one has to reconsider the necessity of consoles if they're becomming basically a close-platform steam wannabe.

No. even though GS doesnt give you much back, the option to sell them (or even just to anyone) is better than sitting on a game you dont want t play anymore.

The problem with blocking used games goes beyond buying and selling though. Borrowing a game from a friend is out, and even bringing your game to a friends house to play is out. Why shouldn't I be allowed to play my game on a friends console?
Exactly. I have two consoles in my home, and the idea that I couldn't play on both is rather disturbing.

And another problem people don't seem to think of is how much support retailers would give for these games. Most game stores have very limited PC selection since they can't be resold so they only have some of the most popular games.

Why would a store that thrives on second hand sales support a console where they make very little money?

Games that I have because they were used.

Bioshock 2, Prototype (it was meh) Halo 3, Shadow of the Colossus, Persona 4, Resident Evil 4.

Yeah, I think I'd pass. After all I don't really have much of an incentive to buy a next gen console anyway.

This about sums up my answer. I use Steam because I don't have much choice for gaming on PC and the worst thing about it is the ~15 games that I'm never going to play again for one reason or another taunting me every time I open my library. Also I have to assume that all the people proudly declaring they never buy used means I'm one of the only people here without an exorbitant disposable income.

No, never because the games would stay expensive as console titles typically do.

A lot of people are mistakenly saying "well steam does it and everyone is okay with that"
The reason being that many are fine with Steam doing is because the games are on sale so often at ranges from 25%-75% off so you wind up buying games at 2.50-10 bucks a pop vs 60 bucks. When do you see console games go on that kind of sale?

Then there's other facts to consider, will the games be locked to the console? It seems like that would be the case other wise you could just unplug your internet cable and then play used games. Or maybe you'd need to be online to even start the game to 'declare ownership'
Another thing that you don't see on steam, origin, etc because you buy the game and it's locked to an email and you can play it anywhere.

This sorta thing would also rule out borrowing games, renting games so you'd be at the mercy of assholes who like putting out games with no demos so every game would be a risk. Does that sound like a good idea?

You'd have to be insane to support such a dirty scheme. I haven't even liked the BS I put up with modern consoles, I wind up playing the older ones much more because there's less bullshit between me and a game.

Video game rentals still exist. Anyways, I don't usually buy used games or rentals because my local video store/Gamestop have a horrible track record with used games.

As for buying a console without used game support (for lack of a better term), I probably wouldn't buy it simply on principle. It's a shitty move on the developers part, and it hurts more people than just gamers.

360/PC here who loves Steamwith about 70% of my console games new, the rest are old niche games where the new copies are collectors items.

Would I buy a console if it didn't have used games, yes but only if it was like the PC meaning they would have to give devs more freedom in their pricing, run a steam like store page that the machine shows when it boots ups with regular sales.

Unfortunately I can't see that happening given how backwardly rigid and corporate MS & co are that I can't see them having the stones to market indies as much as AAAs and have fair pricing structures.

I guess alot rests on how highstreet retailers figure into this, as unlike the PC, consoles do need them so we could very likely have a slapdash compromise like we have atm with DLC and Online Passes which keeps the industry happy but is never a good thing for us gamers.

Anyway I glad so many folk here say they are jumping on the master race side for next gen. If MS and Sony lost marketshare to PC and Steambox then that force consoles to compete against steam in it's pricing.

Technically PC Master Race here, but I wouldn't buy the PS4 if it disallowed used games. While I do enjoy my gaming PC, it's not what I mainly use it for. Playing ames on it has also been pissing me off because no matter what game I put in there's always SOME issue that even Google can't fxi bar a hardware upgrade. Considering I'm going overseas 3 times in the next year, I can't afford to upgrade.

So I play a lot on my trusty PS3.

I go on there, have easy movement at my fingertips (and can aim just as well as I can with a mouse) and no artifacting or blue splotches all over my screen and stretched fucking textures and WHY MUST THE SCREEN FADE TO BLACK EVEN THOUGH MY GRAPHICS CARD ISN'T OVERCLOCKED ALAN WAKE!?...

Sorry, but I've just been seeing people acting all superior about their PC's. I can appreciate their reasoning, but I haven't been having the same lovely experience as them.

While playing my PS3, I picked up a lot of great games pre-owned that I probably wouldn't have touched without a used Market. I would have never found out about Disgaea, or L.A Noire, or Persona.
That's terrible.

I used to trade my games, and each time I did, I would be struck with a massive case of remorse. I traded my 64 to get a Dreamcast. I traded my Dreamcast to get an Xbox, I traded one of my Xboxes towards a 360. Thankfully, I'm in a financial situation where I no longer have to, nor want to trade anymore.

I have a Wii / 360 and PS3, but I have stopped playing them in favour of PC gaming anyway. The next series of consoles need to really sell me on features for me to even consider buying them. Not being able to buy / sell used games won't be a deal-breaker for me.

No, I wouldn't. I don't usually sell my games but I do buy quite a few used games since they can be a fair bit cheaper than buying a game brand new. I might if they lowered the price of games but I highly doubt that will happen any time soon.

It may be a moot point for me anyway. As much as I love my consoles and still intend to play games on them, I'll be more thoroughly joining the ranks of the PC gamers once I purchase the gaming computer my friend helped me design.

It doesn't help that so far I have no intention of purchasing the next generation of consoles. Sony and Microsoft seem to have forgotten what they're supposed to be focused on. I'm almost dreading E3 this year.

Considering 75 percent of my games for PS3 and Gamecube are used ummmm FUCK NO!
Games aren't a priority for me so I don't have alot of money to spend.

Plus my friends and I borrow games from one another. So yeah that's kinda stupid idea for people who don't have an abundant amount of Game money.

Well, I mostly play on PC, through Steam, and haven't bought or sold a used game that was available new since...Super Mario Galaxy, I think. So it wouldn't really matter much to me. My main criterion for buying any new consoles next generation will be exclusives. I think I'll end up getting a Vita and Wii U. As for the other two...time will tell, I suppose.

whats the point? ill just stick to my pc then, what could a console possibly offer me besides gimmicks like the WiiU. that would be my only reason to ever get a console, i truly regret my xbox purchase as it is just rotting at this point, the only solace i get from my xbox is the cheap games ive gotten used. However the way things are going not only is the PC the most powerful platform but also has the cheapest games.... at least the ones from retail and steam, origin is just effin clueless.

I am a pc gamer but i only really get games through the use of steam sales, and if i owned a console i would be making huge use of the pre-owned games. So to get back round to the questions, answer only if they reduced prices and then its only a maybe.

I don't understand why the games industry is always complaining about used game sales. Every other thing you buy can be re-sold as much as you want, but for some reason it's a bad thing for games specifically. Maybe if they want more new sales they should sell games for cheaper prices...

I'd bloody well think twice about supporting a company that had that level of undisguised contempt for their customers.
Like Valve and all their bloody contempt for their customers. Not allowing me to resell my games.
Steam Market now allows you to auction or sell your games.
