I was contractually bound to my country so I can say with certainty yes. I would have. And still would. Im not currently serving my country right now, because I do not feel my country has use for me. ( I was a tanker in the US Army, Not a whole lot of use for us in these current wars.) But if and when America needs tankers, and needs em quick, you best bet your ass I'll be showing up at my nearest recruitment station fast as hell. But would I die for a President? Or Congress? No. I'll die for my friends and family, and I'll die for the Constitution. I will fight and die to support and defend an idea, a document. Because I have that much faith in it.

If I were literally to sacrifice myself saving every person in my country, yes.

If it's simply a question of "This country will not exist anymore and be called something else with a different culture", or something more abstract, then fuck no. That would be absolutely asinine.

Under the right circumstances I think I would. Like, if the country were being invaded by a legitimate threat and I felt that dying for my country was a necessary sacrifice then I would do it.

No, but I would kill for my country. Wars have never been won by dying for your country, they are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country. (Cookie to whoever gets the reference) I enjoy life and being able to love my country, I can't continue enjoying the life and love I have for my country if I am dead. In short I would live for my country, not die for it.

To quote General Paton, "War isn't about making your dumb-asses die for their country. It's about having your dumb-asses make other dumb-asses die for their country." But to answer the question, no. I'm accepting to change. As long as it isn't a country that believes in brutalizing its citizens I could deal with the change.

Nope. And I'm not even concerned about dying. But that's like asking if I'd die for a cookie or free sodomy or something.

My country is just where I happened to be born, it is of no importance to me over any other place on Earth at all.

Depends on the reason would i die for my country because they have decided to invade one of many nations that the US has attacked no.

i would die to defend my country, but that's more because it would be dying to defend my family friends and everything else.

i believe that if the country required it for self preservation sure.

because it wants some oil or wants to install a new leader in another nation i would say no.

I'd never die for the politcal section's behind the country.

But for the people in my life sure.

Well you gotta give me a little context here. If it was a war, and me purpously sacrificing myself for something that would save my peoples lifes than yeah. Otherwise no, but how would this situation even come across me otherwise?

Why die for your country when your country wouldn´t die for you?

I would die for my family and friends yes, but not my country.

I'm more than willing to put myself in a situation where death is a possibility even a likely event but I'd much rather make someone die for theirs. And another. And another. And another.

Who said that the trick was to not die for your country, but make someone else die for theirs?

In the context of dying, I would have to be certain that my death would accomplish something of significant importance. If its for nothing, hell no. If its so the rich can stay rich, double hell no.

If it were the kind of death where they carved a 40 foot statue of marble with a plaque and everything, then yeah, I might consider it.

I know quite a few people in the British Army, and not one of them wants to die for Queen and country. You know why? Because they see past the bullshit. They would die for their mates, certainly, because their mates would die for them. When Ross Kemp followed the Mercians around for a tour in Afghanistan, they explain it better than I ever could.

And as for me? As so many other martyrs exist I'll hang back til the fighting's over, then steal the corpses' shoes and make my fortune!

Or simply said, no I would not. Don't get me wrong I love my country, but dying would serve no purpose at all. I am not allowed to be in the army due to eyesight. Meaning I will never lay my hands on a weapon. Dying for my country would simply mean I would die. It would do just as much productive for my country as car hitting me by accident killing me.
I would not kill for my country either since I am a pacifist. Also I think it is odd that you ask someone why they live in their country when they "obviously don't love it" Should they move to a country with no attachment and be expected to die for that country? If someone isn't willing to die for their country then they're probably not willing to die for some other country.
