I do in fact love my country, however, if living without my country proves intolerable, suicide is another option. I believe in trying everything before giving up.

Would I die for my country a good cause? Yep!

Would I die because some political jackass got us into a stupid war whose only upside is the stock prices of defense contractors? Nope!

That creates a big problem for the career soldiers (whom I have much respect for); they don't get to choose.

I would die for a cause I really believe in and if it became violent, such as a the second world war, I would be prepared to go fight the Nazis and if my country were fighting them then yes I would die for my country. However that said, I do have much respect for the armed forces as they are always going to be the first to battle the threat and I believe it is the politician's fault if the cause is not worth dying for or not popular or immoral. Think about the Vietnam war, I have nothing against the soldiers that fought there even if they did terrible things because in my view, it was the politicians who deployed them's fault not there's for being at war.

"for my country"? Not so much, not anymore (contract ended months ago). Certain people within my country, yes. In order to kill certain other people who I think are a horrible detriment to my country... maybe. But flat out "die for my country"? Nah. What would that accomplish?

My family lives in this country. A country is nothing if not its people. I would die to protect its people.

Yeah, I'd die for my country. I don't really want to, but I would. My philosophy is pretty much this:

Lord, I pray that you grant me the quiet, peaceful death of an old man with a life well lived. But should I die before that time I pray that it shall be with fierce breath as I hold fast to my enemy, and with my last glimmer of life, take his.

Depends on the situation really. If Canada is being attacked I will pick up a weapon and go die. I cannot in good conscious sit by while other people are dying for me on Canadian soil. It would take a lot of deep thought however for me to join the military to go overseas...

Becuase no one gave me a choice where i want to live when i was born. No one said to me how this country will evolve over years and what will i see when im an adult.

To answer the question. No. I would not die for my country or any other. History proved already, in my countries case, that it never brings anything good.

See, by the end of WW2 we had this big Warsaw Uprising thing against the Nazi's. It was supposed to last 2 weeks tops, then Soviets were expected to come and help. Plenty of people decided to "die" for the country. Young people. Intellectuals. Country's elite one might say.
It dragged on for 3 month, Soviets didn't come, the West didn't come to help. City got ruined, majority of combatants died for nothing, further more, the fact that so many well educated people died allowed Soviets to establish easier in years after WW2.

So yeah. History taught me to not die for my country. There are better ways.

The U.K is far from perfect especially Northern Ireland, from people not batting an eye at police brutality to corrupt MPs in Stormont to morons who think they're better then others because they were raised as Christian denomination X instead of Christian denomination Y...

Would I die to make it better? Yes. Would I die to defend it? Fuck no.

Id like to think so, if I had to, or was forced into a situation where my death would be able to helo others, Id liek to think I'd have courage to stand up, same if my country is invaded

depends on the circumstance.

if not dying would cause my country and its people to turn to dust, then yes,

if not dying would cause my country to have a different leader, then no, regardless of what they believe in.

my family has a long history of conscription dodging, a history i plan to continue if necessary.

It really depends on the threat facing my country. For example, I wouldn't be willing to die for Australia in Iraq - that being an American caused war our American-loving former prime-minister needlessly got us involved with, to find WMDs that weren't even there. I don't want to die just because John Howard wanted to be G.W Bush's little deputy sherrif.

But if Australia was genuinely under the threat of invasion, as it was during WWII, then I would join the army and I would be willing to die for my country - even though I would be useless in a fight.

Fuck no. I would die for anything as pointless as a country

Would you die for your country? It's pretty straight-forward.

For me yes. If your not willing to die for it, then why live there? You obviously don't love it there very much.
If you love living there so much why would you willingly die for it? You won't be living there any more

no. We have had enough people die for our country already in bullshit wars. Why am I still here? Because I lack the funds to move out of the country and into the country I want to live in. Unfortunately I am stuck here for the next 3-13 years.

Hell no. I have no intention of dying for the particular landmass on which I was born.

The REAL question is whether or not someone would be willing to die for their species.

No.

Because

a) it's not like there's a dearth of people already willing to do it. If there's a shortage, maybe. Right now? Ha.

b) my patriotism extends exactly this far: we have done quite a few nice things in the past, there are very few oountries I would rather live in, and they are all very far away and it would take quite a lot of money and effort to get there, and I am 1) broke and 2) don't give enough shits.

If i died for my country i wouldn't be alive any more to care about my country so the whole thing is moot, so I'd rather be alive and let my country go to hell then bugger of to somewhere else. Heck i don't even care if the scenario was to die so that 1 million people could be saved I still wouldn't die for them.... well unless that 1 million contained people i loved in which case i would consider it.
