Dying for country is like dying for your God.

...What? No, not meaningless because it's fictional. Country is quite real.

It's because I have no real attachments to this place. Besides, if I had died, I wouldn't have cared the least bit about what happens to it.

Would my country die for me?

Seriously, the politicians try their propaganda, try to get us to die to keep things as they are, but the present can always be improved, the inequalities are not always worth defending, and stranger are not always worthwhile poeple. Better to die to protect your own, not caught up in wars as a sacrificed pawn. I'm not buying it Larry. I come from one of the border provinces of Australia, and we generally laugh at the tricks tried and played in the city centres.

Of course I would. I believe in the principles of my country and would do anything in my power to help provide that for others. To be clear, I would not die for my government, but what my country stands for and for the people who inhabit it.

For Canada? Maybe not. For the Canadian government? No, even though I support them. For the Canadian people? Yes, in a heartbeat.

The honor in a war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard die for his country.
I love this quote.

It's a hard decision.

I love the ideals that my country is supposed to represent and the way our government should work. Those are things I would die for.

But for the people that inhabit this nation? Not people I'm really proud of.

Defending my country on home soil? Yes. Going to another country to "defend" my own because some people there are bad? Nope.

No, I would not die for my country. I would die for the people in it. Things people say about their country or the people in it that I dislike:

A: You should be required to serve in the military or you don't love your country
B: If you're not a raging patriot, you don't love your country
C: Your country is the greatest in the world, which gives it the right to dictate to all others.
D: God bless (insert country here)

It's just another way of restricting freedom. Let's talk about vicious cycles. It starts at the city, then state/province/whatever, then goes to the country, then the world and it just goes on and on from there. Stop putting so much emphasis on where you live as your defining characteristic, it is not as important as you think it is.

No. eN Oh!

I am not wasting away my existence for something ridiculous like this. I do not have the delusion of eternity, therefore I know that when I die, that's it, everything I once was will be nothing more than a pile of decomposing meat and bones.

You mean would I join the Army? Hells no.

You mean would I pick up a pistol and start shooting if some evil enemy was invading and threatening my personal liberty? Yes, and I would be glad of the help of some professionals i.e. the Army.

But if what you're really asking is "am I patriotic/nationalistic" then Hell, Hell, HELL no. We should be super-critical of our own nations, if you are a "patriot" you would never do that.

I wouldn't because the Westboro Baptist Church only live 3 hours away from me, and would picket my funeral. Then again, I have a few friends that are gun nuts, so it might almost be worth it...

American much? ;)

Define "dying for your country". I get the dying part...but what do you mean by "for your country"?

For your government's foreign policy/ international interests?

Would you die for your country? It's pretty straight-forward.

For me yes. If your not willing to die for it, then why live there? You obviously don't love it there very much.
