Yes, I would. Not just because of gaming, but if gaming is illegalized, my country is really is going downwards.. wouldn't wanna stay here then.

No, I would start an insurrection and help create our own gaming country.
It's part of no. Because I didn't want to try give every possible answer in the poll.

I figured the easiest way to get around that limitation would be only to ask if you'd leave the country, not what you'd do about it.

So you'd either leave, not leave, or leave temporarily. :)

Of course the comments you leave can always elaborate.

Would you stay and game illegally? (Assume there are ways to detect this and the penalty is harsh)
You see, I have a bit of a problem with this part of your premise. If I buy a dedicated gaming PC that is disconnected from the Internet and has no wireless capabilities, how is anyone going to be able to detect that I'm playing video games? Frankly, if the man has hidden cameras installed all over my house, or if it's acceptable for police officers to conduct rigorous searches of my house and property every so often, I think I'd be too busy participating in the underground resistance to overthrow the oppressive regime to play video games.

That said, if there was a way to detect the playing of video games that was difficult or impossible to circumvent, I'd probably buy a timeshare at a local underground gaming speakeasy, and if such a thing didn't yet exist, I'd proposition some local gangsters to help me set one up. That's the thing about banning stuff: you're really only creating extremely lucrative business opportunities for people who have no respect for the law.

Oh, and we'd have this poster as the centerpiece of our underground gaming den:

You tell em, Mr. Toad.

I'd get by on my collection of old games. Moving is too much effort just to play the latest graphics demos.

Nah, I'd stay and help form a ring of underground gaming rings where instead of races or fights we just play video games. Smuggling games and consoles under the noses of the fuzz, hiding our junk when they come around investigatin'. I tell ya man, it'd be like living in Prohibition all over again. Except I guess the mafia of this new era would be alot nerdier than Al Capone and the rest of the gang

Defect is absolutely the wrong word, unless you think the banning of interactive entertainment is a good enough motivation to flee ones country and seek asylum elsewhere. I might move, though, if banning entire mediums of expression became common practice.

I'd build a big bunker for people who want to play games and make it look like a crack den of course to be safe and I'd get people to smuggle games in from different countries and because the government are probably monitoring online gaming you would need to have LAN parties, And when the cops come round I'll just say a bunch of drugie's getting high at the same time (cause if a government gets that stupid they probably have legalised all Hard drugs).

Nope I'd stay and fight with every fiber of my being. Whether it be in the courts or on a soapbox in the streets.

I voted yes a bit too quickly, I think.
After reading the question I thought straght away "Of course I would", but then I thought "If one govenment had the balls to do it, how long until other governments start doing it?"
No. I think I would have to stay.

To me, this is stupid. If my country banned video games, to me it would seem that in this hypothetical it would be logical to assume that such a ban would be endemic of a loss of personal freedom completely. If my government decided to repress me in any such way, related to video games or not, I'd probably try and stay awhile to fight the changes. But after some time, when the fight seemed hopeless, I would entertain the possibility of leaving, sure.

To be told I can't play a game is way above my standerds to why leave a country. Heck some games getting banned is almost enough to make me think about it.

I'd start a petition against it. And if it doesn't work start a revolution. Freedom to the playahs! our banners would be in 8 bit.

I'd move, but not solely for the games, its that if a society ever got that far gone, its probably not the only thing that they are gonna take away.

Moving to another country does not mean you defect...!
You can still love it, and defend it in war afterwards, even if you stop living in it.

I'd move, simply because any country that outright banned gaming would probably be a dictatorship of some kind, and I like my personal freedoms, thank you very much.

I'd either fire bomb the Scottish parliament as it's about 30 minutes drive from here or do what that crazy Englishman did and buy an old sea defence post and declare independence (Principality of Sealand [http://www.sealandgov.org/index.html])
