So I was just watching Good Game (an Australian video game review show) and they reviewed Bayonetta.

During the review one of the reviewers said something along the lines of:

Every time you try to convince yourself that this is okay - just replace the image with a dude. I mean can you honestly say you'd feel the same way about a spread-eagle ballsack flying at you from all directions?
To which I thought, yes I would feel the same way...

Things like

Don't bother me any more than Bayonetta crotch shots.

Now obviously those are parodies, so not the same thing, and also being the exception rather than the rule means a true equivalence has yet to be reached to truly gauge ones reaction, however I still don't think it would phase me.

That being said I'm also an abhorrent freak of nature, so what I feel is often somewhat of an anomaly, as such I'm curious...

Are there really that many men out there that would find this type of stuff uncomfortable?

edit: Really escapist? what's up with the 10 character option limit? :( Ruined my joke.

I'd either find it vaguely amusing or decide it clearly wasn't for me and go do something else.

Those being, incidentally, my exact reactions to Bayonetta.

Isnt Bayonetta basicly Devil May Cry?

I guess he doesnt rub his junk in the camera but there is a reason girls like him so much.

In general I hate the whole "female beauty tropes are evil" because there are male counterparts and women would look just as ridiculous with those tropes enforced.
Just out of curiosity, do you have an example of one such?

Preferably in image form, like those in the OP.

This is really my entire reaction to Bayonetta. No need to write the exact same post again.

I'd laugh my bloody ass off is what I'd do, as I did with that Solid Snake picture right there. I love me some subversion so I'd welcome that kind of thing.

As long as it's as over the top as Bayonetta then probably not. I honestly find Bayonetta rather unattractive, she gives me this feeling like she smells like old lady. I think she's a fantastic character, but she's so out there that she becomes almost a parody of herself. So honestly, a male version would make me no more or less uncomfortable than Bayonetta already does.

To put it simply. I wouldn't give a shit. And just like I wouldn't expect women to play and enjoy or even like Baynoetta or say, Dead or Alive Beach Volley Ball, I wouldn't expect men to play or like the opposite gender equivalent.

That's what it comes down to for me. No one should care that guys like to play games made by guys for guys so why should anyone care if girls like to play games made by girls for girls. Of course, there are wonderful pieces of art such as the Atelier series, which is made by women with its target audience being women, that are rated very high on my list of all time favorite games.

Seriously, you need look no further than any game made by Gust for a game with well written, fantastic female protagonists with agency. Totori, Princess Meruru and even Rorona in her own way.

I greatly enjoy JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, I believe this answers the question.

If you don't know what JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is, the answer is yes. Now go look up JoJo.

For the second time tonight, I find that the Marshall of the Soviet Union speaks the truth.

Besides, given the amount of times you end up captured and naked in the MGS games, Naked/Solid Snake is practically already that fetching bra and stockings combo.

And if I might add, the 2nd and 3rd images by the OP are bullshit, the 2nd of course looks stupid because they take it to the logical extreme (not to mention that at the very least Captain america is a female eye candy in the films).

And the 3rd one, hmmmmmm..... a more dexterous young Batman, don't you mean DICK FUCKING GRAYSON? Not to mention the drawing was just terrible regardless, looks like a parody of 'emine'.

Edit: Oh and the "make me feel uncomfortable" is a pretty despicable term because it goes to the notion that straight people "fear the gay" and can't handle sexual feelings for males. Really mature.
In reference to the third image, I had to do some digging but I managed to find these edits eventually.

I really don't know where the stereotype that attractive guys in fiction make guys uncomfortable. Rednecks and hicks maybe?

Well, I would argue that what makes women attractive (to men) and what makes men attractive (to women) is quite different from oneanother, but then I'm sure this would unleash some form of hell upon me, so I won't.

But then I don't even find Bayonetta attractive. And here I thought Dante was the male Bayonetta (or should I say, Bayonetta is the female Dante), what with his exposed chest, silvery hair, and rose between the teeth.

Actually the comic strip completely applies to Bayonetta. If Bayonetta isn't female power fantasy then she must be a male one of some sort. Bevcause, honestly, she is attractive, sure, but trust me, she is not a male sex phantasy.

The crotch shots? Are misplaced and uncomfortable, but not sexy.

I think they said it best in the IGN review round up. The problem isn't the character, it's just like it was shot by a pervy cameraman.

Not really. I spent the majority of my Saints Row IV playthrough as a superpowered cockney with his dick just swinging open and freely the entire time. Didn't bother me one bit. If anything I enjoyed the game more for it!

There is already a male Bayonetta. He's called Dante.

Absurd Barbie doll proportions, catsuits made from hair that flies off at the slightest provocation, and gratuitous over-the-top sexualization don't do it for me. I personally don't find Bayonetta any more attractive than I do Dante. With that out of the way, it's just something to laugh at or be vaguely creeped out by.

No, I wouldn't be uncomfortable with that stuff at all. The people who use the "What if it was a guy" argument have to do better than that to convince me otherwise.

I don't buy Bayonetta games because of the way she looks, I buy them because I like the gameplay so it would look ridiculous but no it would't bother me
