Who the FUCK would want to stay here?
That is exactly what I am wondering.
I'm wondering why anyone would want to leave. You wouldn't be able to get anywhere interesting, besides maybe some of the planets in our solar system. But I'm sure the novelty of being on another planet would wear off when you realize that every planet we know of is fucking terrible compared to Earth.
He didn't put stipulations on the level of technology you'd be able to use. I'm assuming that postulating the question implies we'd be able to break a few rules of physics and actually be able to explore it as fast as we wanted.
If that is true, then said technology would allow me to easily return to Earth. I wouldn't have to abandon anything if I had such miraculous tech.

To answer peoples questions, I do not mean in today's current technology. You can leave however you want, that can be a super fast spaceship, a Stargate for all you fans of Stargate, or the famous police box. But still bare in mind that you won't have the current comforts of your life.

Explore, after telling friends and family and whatnot. Assuming there will be awesome adventures and sexy space chicks.

That kind of depends, really. If I had to 'explore the universe' with our current technology I'd just spend half my life floating through space without absolutely anything to do. And I might discover one planet I can actually land on before dying.

If we're assuming I had a viable spaceship though, that could take me all over the place within a reasonable time limit (say a couple of days to travel from solar system to solar system), then I'd probably go explore.

I'd stay; I'm afraid of leaving my planet and never being able to return because I'm a coward.

Unless I could return, in which case I'll boldly go where no man has ever gone before.

leave this war infested shit hole or explore the cosmos? I'd much rather explore the universe than stay here another second.

I think you're just trying to bend the question. I've never really been into that sort of thing, so i'm not very good about it.

How bout this...

Suppose you find an alien ship that has a "Universe Tour guide" button that would take you around the know universe showing you beautiful and miraculous things quickstatus. But the flight would last longer than your lifetime with no chance of return? Would you leave all human contact behind to see the wonders of the universe? Or would you stay here and try your hand at finding love, companionship, and family?

I know its sort of a long winded question but it gets the dilemma across without leaving loopholes. ( i think )

Sorry, no returns. You know how it is. Back in history, people went to explore new places of the Earth to see what is out there and find new places, not knowing if they will ever come back home.

What does that mean, 'explore universe'? Do you mean observable space? Because you can explore the universe here on Earth. Hell, you do it every day. I suppose you meant explore outer space, which would be VERY boring/long with current technological capabilities.
Well considering that I said "Or would you stay on Earth?", I thought it would be obvious that you wouldn't be staying on Earth to explore the Universe. I'm not being completely literal, the means by which you leave Earth are upto you, no matter of todays lack of a way to travel into the Universe for any great length.
Well, if I had a magical physics/universe breaking box I would stay on Earth to fuck with people: I would be an omnipitent god. Besides, the human brain literally needs other people, otherwise it goes crazy.

Alright then, I'll just stay home like the coward I am. Tell me if anyone finds paradise somewhere in the universe, 'k?

If I found such a ship, I would immediately hand it over to the government, who would have a chance at replicating the technology found inside. Then such technology could massively boost our space program. Then I could live a satisfying life feeling that I had accomplished something, even if I did only find the ship.

So no, as I'd much rather live a satisfying life than one in which I drift through the void of space alone.

I think I'd wait until space is a bit more explored, then take a vacation into space with my wife and kids (assuming I'm married by that time, which I plan on). That would be awesome.

Would you rather have the open box with something in it, or the closed box that could contain anything.

Space is one giant closed box. It might not contain anything, but in the end it would take so long to find that out you'd be dead long before there was a definitive answer. The whole point would be to get the hell out of dodge and see it.

Yes, yes I would leave.
Especially if it had a fricken boat!

OT
It all depends on, as other have pointed out, what kind of technology level would we be able to explore with, today's or more advanced. If we get to explore with advanced ships with bacon replication technology then hell yes! Who knows there might be some form of alien life that has not tasted the sweet bliss of that which is bacon! If not then I would stay here and dream of what might have been...

So no.
Really this. I couldn't imagine going to space for the rest of my life.

You are an Internet Kraken. I give up, and summon a level 99 "a wizard did it". The ship will leave in 10 seconds on its tour. You don't have time or the ability to hit its engines with a wrench. You don't have a computer interface to upload a virus with. You don't have Cortana. It doesn't have an ignition key. The fuel source is behind a bulkhead you can't get to. And it will kill you out of spite for trying to find a loophole in the question.
