Yeah, I'd love too, because the mainstream media is always so well restrained. They would never stoop so low as to use new and different ideas to stir up controversy (and Michael Atkinson).

Would I play as a Nazi?

Depends

If the game any good?

Of course!

If a game where you get to play as a Nazi would be made, it would had to focus on the patriotic pre-war aspect of the troops and, as the war progresses, demoralizing of the troops, conflicting morals, etc, not to mention gameplay (its surprising how many developers forget about this aspect). Not only would it make for an interesting story-line, but it would also make for likable/interesting characters, but it would also promote a paradigm shift on the "every German is evil" paradigm. It would also be a fun spectacle on the media side of things.

At least that is how I would do it.

YES! I think that more games need you to play as a Nazi.

Hell it would be a change other than just being the bloody Americans, over, and over, and over.

EDIT!: Oh and If I could choose twice I would choose other that way, I could play as the Australians, stabbing Michael Atkinson in the balls.

Oh wait he has no ball! HAH!

It'd be interesting.

The one-sided view of World War II is pissing me off. You're always playing an American or Brit, even though it was the Russians who did the dirty work.
You're never playing the Russians cause it would SUCK to play as a Russian in the Second World War. (what's with it being called World War 2 everywhere btw? It sounds like a movie sequel, not a historic event)
You'd get booted onto the front line without a weapon and only the most minimal equipment (if any) and are supposed to fight against Germans with machine guns and tanks.

I wouldn't mind playing as the nazis, as long as it's strictly on the battlefield and not like concentration camp logistic sim or missions where I'm supposed to massacre Polish civilians.

Leopard Panzer ftw.
In CoD1/2 you played as a russian and in on of them there is a brilliant scene where your officer gives you 5 rounds of ammo and he tells you he doubts you'll last long enough to use them. Then you have to follow the guy in front of you until he dies and pick up his gun and if i remember right you then get pwned by a tank.

Games are a form of escapism, and by no means would I want to be a Nazi, but that doesn't mean that games can't also be an art form. A video game could certainly portray a Nazi as something other than a 2-dimensional character, and provide meaning to the roll. I would definitely be willing to play a game with a Nazi as the main character, and if it was done well, that kind game could be a damn masterpiece.

(By Nazi, I meant a German soldier, however if a game could take a regular German citizen and Nazi during WWII and still teach a lesson, then I'd love that also.)

OT: No, I'd rather not be associated with the Nazi Party in any way, shape or form. I don't see why any sane person would.
If you judge someone by what character they play as in a game then you should talk to a psychiatrist.
So, I'm crazy for not wanting to be associated with the Nazi Party and frowning on people for wishing to play as a Nazi, you know, the guys who participated in the mass genocide of about 12 million people.

Gotcha.
Considering the fact that most people know the difference between a game and the real life, yes.

By the way, your numbers are way off.
1. I understand the difference between video games and real life. I'm just saying that, if you want to get on my bad side, go ahead and support a game that features Nazis as the protagonists. I just really hate the Nazi Party, and I don't understand why you think that this hatred is something that should be cured.

2. The Holocaust is believed to have claimed the lives of 11 to 17 million people, not just Jewish people, mind you. 12 million has been the number I've always used.

Yeah it would be quite an intresting idea to play as a nazi. Especialy if it was a psychological horror with the sanity mechanic (like in call of cthulhu: dark corners of the earth) but more updated version of it. Being a Nazi (not soldier, maybe Hitler's right hand man sort of thing) in the concentration camps witnessing the horror and questioning things would be pretty cool. Until he goes mental in the end and shoots Hitler and runs. Maybe put in some religion with Hitler as the chosen one where he has his own cult and your a member or even make it modern where the cult continues and they're trying to bring Hitler back to life and you have to stop them or have you play as Hitler during WW1 when he was a soldier... yeps could be a good concept... very unexplored territory.

Must start work right away... TO UBISOFT!!!

Why? It is just pixelated, not like it is real. Plus the good guy would win, it is just you go around killing the Brits and stealing their jews! Russian, and Americans, and helping out their buddy the Imperial Army!

I don't see whats wrong.

Protagonists don't have to be morally sound. Let's look at some mediums that have beautifully portrayed a morally disgusting character as their protagonist.

A Clockwork Orange
Natural Born Killers
Watchmen
Inglorious Basterds
The Odyssey
Princess Mononoke

All of these were able to teach valuable lessons to their audience through the existence of main characters who are murderers, rapists or just generally evil. If video games are ever to be respected as an art form, they have to be able traverse that territory as well.

Yes, now if it was as one of the Nazi soldiers/leaders at a death camp or playing as one of the Nazi leaders that ordered/captured Jews for a death camp then no way jose.

As for a Soldier (I'm bolding Soldier because I mean a Soldier as in one who fights in battles not a Nazi that orders the death of Jews as all soldiers are lumped into.) as it'd provide an interesting viewpoint into the German side of WWII, and it'd really give the chance if done right to really emphasize the feeling of knowing your fighting a loosing battle and the tension of knowing in the end you'll most likely die because you fought this war..and that you'll never be able to win because it's the final days of it.
