Simple question. Say you're in a mental institution (why you are there is not important)
Just pretend you an enemy spy that just uncovered some world domination plan and now you know too much.
Your break out attempt has failed and they now have you cornered. The Warden offers you a piece of paper, signing it will allow them to preform a Lobotomy on you and you can be sent back home. Don't sign it, and the guards will open fire on you and kill you. Which do you chose?

For those of you who don't know or are unsure on what a Lobotomy is...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobotomy

I would defiantly NOT sign it, I couldn't bear knowing I would soon lose my abily to think deeply. I sure I wouldn't care after words but death seems like the easy way out to me.

Edit: Poll broke

Edit 2: metal institution... REALLY?! -_-

Lobotomy. I value my intelligence very much, but it isn't so important that I'd rather die than lose it, I could still enjoy life regardless. There's many more important qualities to hold dear, such as moral standing, family and friends etc.

Also, your poll appears to have been eaten.

Death. I value my intelligence above all else, and if even a fraction of it were taken away, I would probably take my own life eventually anyway.

A lobotomy doesn't necessarily mean being turned into a vegetable.

It happened to the Courier in Fallout New Vegas, and she turned out okay.

I'd rather die. Besides family, my intelligence is THE one thing I value above all else. Forget a lobotomy, I'd probably off myself if I had early-onset Alzheimer's. Also, I'm a
Christian
so the Warden & co. just got titanically trolled XD

Indeed. With all it's foot penises and unecessary bodily fluids.

Well I'm looking for a world with a third option.

Or I'd resist so violently that they would have to kill me, god willing take some of those bastards with me.

Death.

I wouldn't want to be a vegetable nor would I want to loose what intelligence I have.

You lose most of your ability to think critically, not correctly expressing emotion, and you would no longer have correct social behavior.

LOBOTOMY =/= VEGGIE STICKS

Read your articles better. Plus, it's Wikipedia so realistically, just don't read them at all.

As opposed to brains in a jar sonjaculating and some burbling. I'd stick with lobotomite any day

A lot of people got lobotomies back in the day and they remained pretty much themselves. Do you really think they would have done thousands of them if it just turned people into mush?

But the science, man!

What about the science!

I'd probably go lobotomy. Hell, I'm quite a ***** (which brings up the question why I accepted the task) and I'd probably go with keeping myself alive. Intelligence is temporary, almost as much as one's life is, but knowledge can be regained.
Besides, it might turn awesome like in Fallout OWB and I'll have to fight the evil powers of SCIENCE!

Would it be the closest thing to losing your sentience?

Lobotomy, after reading the wikipedia article they don't sound as bad as I thought they would be. Plus, ignorance is bliss.
