Poll: Would you time-travel and kill Hitler?

No, humanity needs to be able to live with its failures so as to avert further ones from happening. The fact that Germany was in such an economic mess that the Nazi party was able to rise was the fault of those who wanted to fight in WWI (Allies and Triple Entente), and underestimating how much Germany would be hurt by taking the brunt of the war debt. Now that such an event has happened in the past, we can hopefully avoid such an event in the future.

Ah Russia, an excellent point to prove Hitler's shit strategy and preparation. Hitler wanted to press into Russia when it would soon be winter. His generals told him it was too late to enter Russia and to wait for next year, he ignored them. He sent in his troops with summer attire believing it would make them want to work harder to get home to avoid Russian winter. He made the biggest fucking mistake in the entire fucking war, Napoleon made the same god-damn mistake he did and to make matters worse he dragged Russia into was against him.
Cant Deny that. Hitler got too greedy, but really, when is it ever a good time to invade Russia? Besides, no one was touting him as a Military genius. Just a really passionate speech. But the fact remains, if Russia wasnt involved, Germany could have held out. Russia wanted nothing to do with America or the British, and Japan just needed to not screw with the border of China/Russia, since Hitler pretty much begged them not to draw in America.

That was the problem with the fucking Axis forces, they took on too many foes at one time, Russia was piss scared of Hitler and wanted to avoid contact and America had no love for Britan and only got involved when Japan bombed pearl harbour.
Actually, America covertly supported the British and allies in both World Wars, cause that was a major ally and trading partner. They sent everything just short of soldiers (including guns and munitions) to help the British and in larger scope, the Allies. And FDR was pretty much begging for an excuse to get in there and break America's foreign policies, but he couldnt just come out and say it and risk his re-election.

Hitler sucked massive balls when it came to foresight with his plans, want another example? He stormed into a room and shot a pistol shot into the roof and declared his party was taking over the German Government, he claimed he had the support of the police (a fucking lie) as well as his own party, the Prime Minister was there and he decided to pretend to bow to Hitlers will and as soon as the police showed up had him and the party leader arrested for treason.

Well, Hitler won that war in the end, now didnt he? Look, say what you will about the guy, but he was GENIUS politician. In fact, if you studied him and his book Mein Kampf, you could have a rather successful and aspiring career in politics. Besides, the Prime Minister must have liked something in him, since he put him pretty high on the totem pole of politics under him. If you stopped that, you probably would have never had WW2. Its like Japan, Germany was under so much debt/international control/sanctioned that it either had to go to war and risk its economy going through a collapse. Say what you will, but Hitler saved Germany.

Exactly that. WW2 was terrible, but people learned an important lesson from it. At least I hope they did.
If the same kind of war had happened at a later stage, with higher developed technology (military development doesn't only progress in times of war, after all), the result might have been much more devastating.
Who knows, maybe the Nazis would have been halted for a while, then the idea might have come up again, and prevailed, since without the warning example of WW2 no one would probably notice the warning signs (strict glance towards Israel here) and a similar movement could gain power (even stricter glance towards Israel!).
(Slightly ashamed glance towards Israel since they probably wouldn't exist without WW2...)

Anyway, imagine the same war on our current technological level, and without the examples of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Central Europe might resemble a Fallout setting after a few weeks.

Well, with Hitler out of the picture, the USA would find itself in a nuclear war against China, during which fortunate citizens would find shelter in huge underground vaults, not to emerge until the radiation clears.
Then they'd have to fight Cazadores.

Which is why I wouldn't go back in time to kill Hitler, because no matter the atrocities he committed Cazadores are worse.

Also some stuff about the past being what it is, and retconning it may be bad for us...

Hitler's incompetence was part of the reason the Nazis did so poorly in the later part of the war. They made some pretty major tactical blunders that might have won the war if Hitler hadn't been involved in certain decisions. Also, changing history in that era could have had some pretty dire consequences. As horrible of a thing it is to say, the presence of the Nazis and World War II in general helped push back the threat of the Russians (who more people were afraid of before the invasions began). If the war hadn't happened, who knows how the Cold War would have turned out?

Also, if I could time travel, I'd kill a more prominent and world changing mass murderer like chairman Mao or Lenin instead.

Honestly, no. If Hitler died, someone else would take his place, and those mistakes that Hitler made might of never happened, and Nazi Germany could have won.

I remember this one, and I'm fairly certain that's what would've happened as well. Stalin was just as crazed (if not crazier) than Hitler, and the Soviet war machine of the time was the most powerful force in the world . . . even though they were somewhat trailing behind technologically.

I've hinted at the fact before that the whole world should be glad Hitler made the biggest mistake of the war and broke the Soviet-Nazi pact that existed between the two powers. I think if he hadn't, Stalin would've patiently waited until Hitler had exhausted his war machine, or had "won" . . . then Stalin would've proceeded to steam-roll through a weakened victor with little to no resistance.

You do know the russians invented the the airofoil shape and ailerons also came close to inventing the jet engie before the germans probly would have if the inventers families werent held as hostage and made to work in an underground hanger as an "insentive" Maybe the 'modern' tank as well it questionable but the KV-1 forced the germans to up gun and increase the amour on thier tanks one KV-1 stormed a german line killing several panzer 3 and a couple panzer 1s taking out gun implacments the only way they took it out i think was setting it on fire.

I wanted to write something about the idea that the USSR would start the war that people have written here.

This seems like nonsense to me. Stalin was a different kind of crazy than Hitler. While it's true that Stalin had a conquerers' mentality, even without Hitler I seriously doubt he would have attacked Germany. Remember - Stalin was _afraid_ of the size of the German population and of how organized they were, already in 1931 before Hitler got total control in 1933.

This is documented - Stalin said in 1931:

"We are 100 years behind the advanced countries. We must make good this lag in ten years. Either we do it, or they crush us!"

He was basically foretelling the Second World War. He was so afraid of the Germans and other industrial countries, that he geared the Soviet economy towards war already from the late 20's and early 30's.

Many people like to rag on Stalin, and it's true he was evil in many ways. But to me and many other historians, he is the main reason we are not all speaking German right now.

Honestly, WWII did a lot of good. It calmed down the tension that built up after WWI, got Germany and the US out of terrible depressions, led to get advances to infrastructures of the US at least, etc. WWII was just waiting to happen anyway. Hitler was the best person to have leadership of the Nazi Party(for us).

That paradox has always assumed time was strictly linear and there is only one timeline. Much more probable is it would create or be a different dimension(5th dimension traveling rather than 4th dimensional).

More likely the future would be much worse. Probable that it would have been like the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and WWII would have happened with a much more skilled leader for the Nazis.

I'm not convinced that owning a time machine is all it takes to be able to kill Hitler. There were people of the time that were trying, they didn't succeed...not easy killing Hitler.

No, because it would make him a matyr to his beliefs, and his place would probably be taken by someone who has much more tactical sense and/or would try to cut a deal with Stalin.
Being able to fight/kill him in a separate-from-the-time-stream Eternal Champions-esq situation would rock though.
