Going back to only the beginning of World War 2 is kinda pointless in stopping it. Gotta go back to end of World War 1 if you wanna get anything done.

No. A communist germany would also be terrible.

The US had a bunch of commies show up in the Great depress and it could have turned the nation into a naziish state all the same. HEck, the war actually did destroy america's soul a little, japanese internment... Of course, the nation never really ahd a soul, with slavery lasting i think a hundred or so years longer than europe and requiring a war to get rid of.

I know killing Hittler sounds like a good idea.
However who knows what the fuck would happen to the present.
History knows what it is doing.

It's good to see that the Aryan Brotherhood has such a strong presence on The Escapist.

Or you know, something like them.

Only if I could go to the moment he was about to die and kill him, thus only changing the means, not the time or location etc., thus minimizing any possible time line branches
Yes, this would be logical AND you would feel good.

You don't know what effect killing hitler would have on the present my fellow escapian. And not wanting to commit murder makes me part of the Aryan Brotherhood? Thats some nice logic.

Yeah. I was being COMPLETELY serious when I said that. COMPLETELY not joking at all. I definitely wasn't being sarcastic at all. COMPLETELY meant what I said. Again, not trying to be funny. You're totally a racist, and I'm not joking. That was not sarcasm at all.

I'm very glad that you understood how not-sarcastic I was being. My joke definitely didn't go over your head.

Paradoxes anyone? Going back in time is bad enough but changing something? You could destroy the entire universe!

As the title suggests, this is a hypothetical situation here.

Lets say you were offered the chance to time travel, only once, and only to the beginning of World War 2, to kill Hitler. After the job was done, you would snap back to your own time, although it would be altered due to your actions. Would you take this opportunity? (and before anyone tries to get cute, if you refuse to kill Hitler when you time travel, you automatically go back to your own time, and receive a kick to the balls for wasting everyone's time)

Remember, time travel is a VERY complicated business. Killing Hitler would have DRASTIC effects on the future, in ways you couldn't possibly know.

Perhaps without Hitler, another tyrant would assume power, and do things even WORSE than Hitler. Maybe taking Hitler out would completely avert the war. Maybe without Hitler... you do not exist. Do you take the chance to save countless lives, without knowing the potential consequences?
Is it wrong that I would do it just to see how poorly it effects history?

I have to say, unless you use caps like you just did, there is no way to know if your being sarcastic or not. . .

Holy shit no! Can you imagine the world never experiencing what Hitler did and having someone in this day and age try the same thing? I honestly don't think anything but small animals and insects would survive it. And maybe not even then. Our planet would be a life sized radioactive diorama that little alien kids studied for AP science.

I wouldn't do it. It's just too big a risk. We know everything worked out so why change it? If Hitler had over won then yeah I probably would but he didn't so it's best leave it be.

No, Red Alert showed what happened when Einstein removed Hitler.
Stalin would conquer Europe!
But then the Americans would win it back!
But then Yuri would take over the world using the Russians as a proxy!
But then the Americans would go back in time to fight Yuri!
But the Russians would steal their time machine and go back and fight Yuri!
But then they would try to fix everything and accidentally make Japan a major superpower!
But it was all a metaplot by Kane to make sure that Nod would not be defeated in the Tiberian Wars by using the amount of paradoxes to sheild the worlds from the Tiberium Meteor Shower event, instead developing the cleaner, safer Chrono-Chrystaline powersorce!
