Depends on the game. I normally turn off blood in skating games because it gets annoying, but you should NEVER be able to turn off blood in Gears Of War, that's just wrong.

Games are M for a reason.

Censoring games is the responsibility of parents, not developers.

88 people said wuss? WTF! I don't mind blood but stuff like GTA or Gears seems stupid. I hate GTA because of it's random violence. Being able to kick an innocent person to death isn't my idea of fun.

I like the blood, because if any of you play mortal kombat armageddon with blood off, and you play the Endurance mode or whatever, when guys explode after you kill them all that flies everywhere is cheesy little chunks of flesh that look like popcorn lol

If it will allow more people to play the game, throw in an option to scale down the blood n' gore. I personally wouldn't use it. But then, the blood splatters don't really bother me. (Is that a bad sign?)

But the sparkling flower idea just sounds nuts to me.

Some games really don't need bloodshed but games like God of War look a lot better bathed in gory bloodshed.

Little Jimmy shouldn't be playing anything that simulates violence.

As for me, bring on the unrealistic guts!!

*edit* goin to play some Mad World...

If your old enough to not be affected by shooting a video game character in the head. Your old enough to see a red mist when you do so.

I've played games with that option. I suppose its good to have in case a parent wants to turn it off for their child, or someone gets sick looking at blood. I don't think its necessary for all games to have it though. If you have a problem with the blood in the game don't play it, or don;t allow you kids to play it, simple. Eventually you kid will see it anyway and you shouldn't shield them from it. Blood is part of life so you should learn to deal with seeing it. Plus... ITS A GAME. Its important to realize this and keep it in mind, maybe even explain it to your kids, so then its not such a big deal.

Really, I don't get, nor will I ever, understand these "kids should not play it, they're morons" thing, probably because I weren't a total retard as a kid, but I dunno, maybe the rest of the world was/is..

I have no problem with blood, if it fits the games style, why the hell should you turn it off? Games like Madworld build on hilarious gore, and really, just imagine playing that game with no blood or gore.

Sorry, but I had to point this out.

"probably because I weren't a total retard as a kid"

Facepalm.

Anyway, I think most of it is just comical : see Fallout 3.

IT depends really on how they handle the no blood option. Looking at Gears of War for an example instead of the gory spectacle that you can have if you turn it off there is a chance that your character can glitch. Having a neck that looks incredibly broken after getting sniped is extremely entertaining at times.

No I don't think so, sometimes the blood splash can be funny.
Yeah, but I sometimes turn off blood just because it makes it funnier. Ever chainsawed someone in gears with no blood? It's like the guy's made of asphault.

I need the satisfaction of knowing I hit something five miles away with my sniper rifle and a puff of red mist just about does it.

here is sorta how I like to look at it..

remember in gears2 taking the lancer to the worm's heart(s)?....well naturally thats going to cause a eruption of blood.

that was ALOT of crimson, but....you know it fit the scenario ( and the size of the worm)

now take that same amount...and put it in a game where you get the same amount, for punching somone in the face... thats when it's overkill.

basically I like realistic effects, blood does not bother me.. but yeah there are times when a developer DOES go alittle overboard.

I never turn it " off" but would LOVE seeing a slide bar scale for " gore" so if it's over the top, one can scale it back to more naturally realistic levels ( unless again they use a lancer :p)
