I'm looking forward to the WWIII games. I could be in them! They'd be ultra-realistic!

Yes they should do them more but only if they use different perspectives. I mean why in the good Lord's Name have we not seen a German perspective or Japanese perspective FPS? Oh I know because some shitfit group of lawyers would probably have a coronary. Though I guess that isn't totally true since you were able to play as the Germans during Operation Market Garden in Company of Heroes which was pimp especially since you got to slaughter the British and giggle with the Tiger II.

They're getting just old. You can't take two steps in a GameStop without seeing a wall of WWII games. I know it was a very interesting time and is perfect for games, but all we need is a handful. I'll be just fine with Call of Duty 2 and Medal of Honor.

Maybe enough Call of Duty games but I must admit a remarkable fondness for Company of Heroes. I do so adore that game and the expansion. I await Tales of Valour with trepidation and anticipation.
I like WW2 games on the whole but there does seem to be a remarkable amount of endless clones being churned out.
So I voted Yes simply in the vain hope that 'decent' games are made.

I've answered 'yes' since I feel WW2 resulted in a unique form of warfare which untill that time had never been so brutal, up and close as well as technically and tactically innovate, and never will be again. Discussion here seems to focus on FPS only, but this is only a very small part of the gaming spectrum (I do agree that there are too many ww2 FPS around, and most of them are not that great).

There are other gametypes though that work very well for ww2, like RTS (Company of Heroes), simulators (Il-2 Sturmovik, Silent Hunter series), MMOFPS-Simulator (Battleground Europe, BF 1942), tactical games(Panzer General, Combat Mission and Close Combat series), grand strategy games (Heart of Iron series). Things like immersion (no need to write fiction to come up with a gameconcept), technical development throughout the war (which gamer does not love upgrading units), the first true display of combined arms, the fact that for many people ww2 happened to their country, the tactical innovations throughout the war and the sheer drama of a world in flames, are more than enough reasons to continu making ww2 games.

Modern asymetrical warfare is (thankfully) much more clinical and clean. Which is great, but makes for boring games IMHO. So please do give me more ww2 games, but make them good games. I don't care for ww2 shooters, but there is a whole range of gamegenres that could do with some ww2-loving.

[/rant off]

PS come to think of it, Battle of Britain (C1), Combat Mission 2 Normandy and Hearts of Iron 3 will all be released in 2009... enough to fill my gaming year.

* edit: ffs, I've posted No when I should have voted Yes! Aaargh!

Have there really been more than gods and generals?

I may be in the minority here, but it will never get old (or become politically incorrect) to go to war with the Wermracht.

As a collective force the German army/SS/Nazi party were an such evil bunch of buggers that I don't think I'll ever tire of defeating them. Plus WWII games make excellent measures of how console gaming is advancing (or not).

There should be more WW2 games, but only if they explore a new part of the war, add at least some innovation, or have a nearly unexplored type of gameplay for the category, plus it has to be at least decent.

p.s. What do you think of a WW2/1940's themed MMO that takes place in an alternate timeline, like if WW2 didn't end in 1944?

Yes, but only if they are unique and original. I'm tired of Call of Duty: . There is that game called Scarlet Knight, or something along those lines where you play as a female assasin. That's pretty cool if you ask me!
Velvet Assassin I believe is the name...
That's it, thanks for correcting me :)

The real reason WW2 games are so popular because they are patriotic, and they are the only games where all mothers can condone their 9 yr old sons shooting people.

Also, why don't people make more WW1 games? It's almost virgin soil!
It's pretty much shoot, cover, wait for health to come back (or if they decide to go realist: Your stomach hanging out of you), repeat.
1. The WW2 games are no better, to be quite honest, and it might be a nice change of scenery.

2. Why does it have to be a FPS? How about a strategy game?

What they should do is take a break from making World War 2 games and focus on modern wars for a bit coz COD4 succeeded, so that means they can make a good modern war game and they can do a lot of good battles, also thank god that COD WAW ended with World War 2 finishing, I thought they would never get there lol.
