I may or may not agree with his reviews but that doesn't make them any less amusing. That's the best part about gaming as a community and culture we literally have something for everyone. So while I wouldn't quite go so far as to call him a "Gaming Jesus" I would call him an excellent critic and a funny reviewer who's work I enjoy. Then again I also like british humor so maybe that's just me.

I will say the whole "America sucks" schtick has been getting run a little ragged the past month and a bit. It almost seems like he's really trying to shoehorn it in there even where it doesn't really fit. (The start of the minecraft review springs to mind). I'm all for poking at America, I do it myself, especially having been in the military you get perspective on some of the seriously retarded stuff America does as a nation and humor relating to it can be damn funny. It just feels like the last couple have fallen flat.

Any one from outside the US care to comment on that actually? Are the US jokes real knee slappers and I'm not getting it because I'm an American?
I disagree, i thought the last few America jokes were great. Mostly because I agree with them

I think what ZP's strongest point is his apparent spontaneity. He comes up with random analogies which are irrelevant, and yet very relevant to the topic, and they are also pretty hilarious. Also by speaking so fast it appears that he is coming up with them on the spot. Also I think the way the video and audio relate to each other is very cleverly done.

Humour aside, I feel that ZP's criticism and serious points are very observant and quite often he is right. And while my tolerance for more average games is higher, we have similar opinions on what makes a game good.

His work is without a doubt the only reason I found this website and, consequently, came upon the LRR team. Whilst it's safe to say he occassionally has a bad week, something we here all know from our own experiences, I still find myself coming back every Wednesday for a good laugh.

I went with the second option. He's definitely not as good as he used to be. He debuted as a much calmer, intelligent critic [Watch his Fable review for instance] but it seems that in an attempt to please the masses he's become much angrier. Just compare the speed/force with which he speaks in his earlier videos to his latest ones.

Now most people enjoy seeing him shit on a game, but I find that mindless and rarely funny. I'm more interested in intelligent deconstructing of a game, so I've actually been enjoying Extra Punctuations more lately, it feels like he can speak more freely and intelligently there.

He's also lost a bit of his wit if you ask me. Too much toilet humor/use of fuck/etc lately.

tl;dr he's still good, but he used to be excellent. Oh well.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I have to add that while he's very well-versed in subjects such as storytelling, characters, etc, he just doesn't get a shitton of genres and the whole idea of competition and challenge that it just becomes pathetic. I.E his Demon's Souls or Monster Hunter reviews, which were incredibly uninformative in addition to being about as funny as the Irate Gamer.

I love ZP, its my favorite thing to watch on this site. I can't see it without Yahtzee, his british humor is some of the funniest stuff ive watched, even if it means going to look up a word or two every couple of episodes XD

It took me a surprisingly lon gtime to realise that Zero Punctuation is NOT a Review show! Instead it's an entertainment show that airs every week and almost never misses it's mark.

If you take ZP too seriously, you are doing it wrong!
No that's actually not true. It's a review show written as entertainment. So it's a serious review, but it's hilarious. While it seems like it's purely for entertainment, his reviews are genuine and thoughtful as actual reviews

Well, since the reason I joined this website was in large part due to being a fan of Yahtzee's, I'd have to say I still enjoy watching his videos. Out of most so-called critics, I actually listen to what he has to say about a game because he and I seem to have pretty much the same taste in games and look for the exact same qualities in a game.

yeah I still enjoy Yahtzee's videos and blogs, I find him very funny, and I can't even be mad when he blasts games I like because most if not all of what he says is admittedly true,

Yahtzee is great entertainment and I watch religiously. Love the quick wit and scathing reviews.

I guess they aren't ideal if you are after a complete review (after all, it is his job to point out the worst aspects in all games, not identify the good parts).

But they are great fun nonetheless.

Though tbh, while I knew many people liked him I wasn't expecting the kind of critical acclaim he has got in this poll so far.

95% positive out of 500 votes is impressive for any cynic.

Edit: Because a poll isn't a pool...

It's not exactly a fair poll considering we are on the site that Yahtzee made popular pretty much. If you went to other forums you'd find much less support.

I agree with the core of most of his reviews, but also think he over exaggerates for comic effect and as such loses some credibility. I enjoy his video's for a laugh and his columns for some genuinely interesting food for thought.

I know that. All I'm saying is that Watching Zero punctuation for Reviews is like Watching Inside Gaming for the news or Seananners' Gameplay commentary for Call of Duty gameplay. Thay're there. And technically those are the points of the videos....... but that's not why you watch it.

If that analogy made absolutely no sense to you because you watch neither Inside Gaming nor Seananners' videos, here is a more familiar analogy: "You don't go to the Beach to get sand kicked in your eyes, You go there to build sand castles. [Getting sand kicked in your eyes is just a natural consequence]"

Get what i mean?

The thing with Yahtzee is that: is he opinionated? Yes. Does he exaggerate? Obviously.

But at the core of his review, if you strip away all of the jokes and entertainment value, there's a pretty solid and honest description of the game in question.

Well, he was definitely at his best back in the days of lore when Fully Ramblomatic was updated daily. Fast forward to the start of ZP, and he's still very good. He went through rough patches and hit-and-miss patches, but now he seems to be getting good again. The Minecraft review in particular was a great return to form.

Agreed for the most part, but there have been many reviews where he seemed to entirely pander to the fanboys who (And I have seen evidence of this) think he is entirely serious when he exaggerates things like that. Extra Punctuation is a very good thing, in my opinion.

I can pin Yahtzee is the one person whose humor I try most to emulate. Not the wisest course of action, on reflection, but I won't apologize for being entertained by a lot of swear words cleverly strung together.
Same I get funny glances, like that time I called someone a spunk flavoured lollypop.

I like his reviews. I like playing a game, listening to his reviews and seeing if he hit on what I saw as flaws in the game, it was interesting. And he is really hilarious.

I still love Zero-Punctuation. There was a short while where he wasn't that funny but he is funny again now. Also I find that type of "British" humor really funny... although on second thoughts thats probably because I myself am British.

I look forward to watching one whenever it's posted on the site.

Some aren't as funny, some are - just don't take them seriously. If he has a complaint, it will come from something genuine, but the main point is to be entertaining. Extra Punctuation should be seen as his actual views.
