I'm a guy and so is my best friend. I'm 17 and he's 18. We've been best friends since Freshman year of high school. My best friend used to be a girl, but then we tried to be more than friends and it just didn't work out and it ended up killing our friendship altogether.

Well my girlfriend is my best friend, since she knows damn well more about my innermost feelings and such than my dude best friend.
Same about my girlfriend, but I'm not counting her on this because that's the obvious thing for me to do.

OT: My best friend (Not including my girlfriend) is a guy, like me. Only difference is that he's sensitive and gay and I'm a cold-hearted, antisocial straight guy. Not that it matters.

My best friend is a guy, and so am I. In fact, all of my friends are guys. The girls I sit next to in biology are friendly enough, but I wouldn't consider them close friends. There's no chemistry in biology, more's the pity.

I'm a 24 year old male and my best friend is a 24 year old female.

We instantly clicked in highschool(10 years ago..ugh), but not in a relationship sort of way. We're extremely close. We talk 24/7 and see each other usually about 5 timer per week. She's pretty much considered a part of my family. She can walk in to my moms house any time she wants, even without me being with her(I have my own home) or without my mom being home.

We consult each other on pretty much everything. She insists that I go shopping with her all the time because I'm the only person she knows that will give an honest opinion.

We tried the relationship thing. It was awkward and didn't end well, but we're still friends.

I wouldn't say that I've been able to pick a "best" friend, but there are at least two that come immediately to mind, one of them male and one of them female. In fact, I'd say it's more that I have friends among different close-knit cliques and my "best friend" at any one time just depends on which group I'm hanging out with and which member of that group I feel closer to. I suppose the fact that our tastes in games are a lot closer tips the scale in favor of my male friend, but it still doesn't feel right to just arbitrarily say "this close friend is better than my other close friend." They all have their moments. ;)

I'm female and 18 (going on 19), by the way.

My best friend is also a paragon of manliness, it's probable why we get along so much.

But seriouly, I don't think gender has anything to do with frienship, while my current best friend is a dude, I've had several ladies fill the best friend spot.

Male, best friend is a male; Yet I find that in general I prefer speaking to women. I find most men shallow, rude and (try to) show too much alpha male behaviour/compensational behaviour.

OP: Just out of curiousity; Does that male friend of yours know that he has been friendzone'd or not?

I'm male, and my closest friend is male. It's merely a coincidence though, I have had a lot of female friends, just none that stuck around.
I'm 17.

Just two dudes, who like hanging ot, making it a point to beat the hell out of any WBC person we see (I know, sad life goal), and enjoy being a one two punch in our hockey team (him on defense, myself on offense [center, incase anyone cares, but I can play left wing better thenr ight, which I'm told is odd because I'm right handed]).

at least once a month my dad/mum asks if "anythings happenind with her, or when we go out the go "OOOOOOO just you two alone hey" and have once even suggested I get my two guy freinds to leave, so we can be alone. ( on an unrelated note that was an epic night, all four of us were playing different retro consoles; the SEGA mega drive, Deramcast, ps1, and me on a gamecube if you count that as retro)

EDIT: I have a girlfreind now, btw and they have started to sugest I dont hang out with lauren as much, "Sigh"
I've never had a girlfriend, and have never shown any interest in having a romantic relationship (with either sex), and yet whenever I mention a Uni-friend of mine (also called Lauren), they start doing that. It is really annoying, and I'm not sure if they are trying to 'be involved' in my life, if they honestly think I want to bang her, or if they honestly can't view men as being just friends with women (which is retarded because they have plenty of opposite gender friends).

OT: I'm male, and my best friends are all male.

I don't really trust most of my friends... and my best friend? My sister. So I don't have the "OMG U DATING!?" problem that usually comes with opposite gender friends when family members hear about it.

I'm a guy, whilst growing up in school my closest friend was also a guy. Since finishing school and subsequently all of my friends either getting jobs or going to different Universities he's the only one that I still talk to. I've graduated now and live in London far away from where I come from but I still talk to him often but bizarrely I talk to no-one else whom I used to go to school with. It bums me out sometimes as back then I had a closely nit group of friends and it seemed as though we'd be friends for the rest of our lives.

...it's funny how life turns out.

My cousin is my best friend, even though I haven't actually seen her since I visited her in the hospital a year ago because she had cancer. We still talk constantly via text. :p

Edit: Shit, forgot to put age. Both of us are 16.

Because remember folks, post count is directly proportional to penis size, intelligence, and attractiveness! ;D

Male, best friend female. Strange, most of friends are girls...oh god. I've become the token gay guy! Shame my life isn't a sitcom.
