a 4-year old kid comes in. He goes up to the register and orders a happy meal. You fix up the box and give it to him. However, instead of paying, the 4-year old simply stumbles off. You don´t see his mother anywhere, so you can´t expect someone to pay. You consider taking it away. On one hand, the kid will probably get really sad if you do, but on the other hand, he didn´t pay, and you are already on the line with your boss.

(No, you cannot go up and help him find his mom. You are limited to these two options.)

Please state a reason.

This made me chuckle, 'cause it's true.

Hypothetically though, I'd take it back unless he payed or his parents showed up. I'm a heartless twat.

Yes, and as for stating a reason, you've already done that for me in the poll.

How could that happen?
I don't know about where you live, but here, it is standard procedure to take the money for the meal, and then hand the meal over >.>
And I don't think anyone would serve a four year old here...
Anyway... if I was in that situation, I'd probably kill myself.
I couldn't have a job like that >.>
Or 'Go postal'. That could be interesting.

Yeah, you cant get food unless you already paid, so the question is void...

So option B.

I'd take it back, you can't have something for nothing, everyone has to learn that.

QFT. Let the little bastard cry his heart out. Money is money, and I want money, so I require a fair exchange for the food.

The same also holds true in KFC and Burger King and probably any other fast food establishment.

But looking at the situation hypothetically, I'd have the kid locked in the utility cupboard until he caves in and slips the money to me under the door.

But using one of your options, I'd take the meal off him. There can be no exceptions.

The world is cold and horrible enough as it is without my "help" - i'd let him have the meal. There's an option of paying for it yourself, and it's not like i would intend to stay working at McDonalds for long in the first place. And in a realistic situation, i'd probably drop everything to help him find his parents instead.

Yeah, i'm an anarchist communist hippie bastard... if you have any problems with that, bite my shiny metal ass.

You work in McDiddle's

You arent going to be happy about working in McDoodle's

You let the kid be happy because it makes you happy seeing him happy, also you've done your part for society in getting one up the multi billion gazillion dollar McDo's

(i've said happy so many times in my head its stopped making sense)

edit: McDiddleDoddleDumDeeDo's [feel free to extend with more - lets get one word 3 pages long. Infact someone make a new thread]

If I was working at in McDonalds, I wouldn't serve someone who doesn't obviously have the means to pay for the meal before they paid for it.

I'm also pretty sure that not many shops would serve an unaccompanied 4 year old with anything.

I go with option B, I'd take "his" Happy Meal... by which I mean I wouldn't have given it to him in the first place.

To a 4 year old who doesn't properly understand such concepts as ownership and money and who'd assume that all he had to do was demand something for it to become "his", I'd happily shatter his dreams by "taking away" his assumed meal.

I know it wouldn't be very smart, but I think I'd let the kid have the happy meal and just pay for it myself because I wouldn't have the heart to be cruel to a little four year old. That being said, I would go and tell him you must always pay for something, their is no such thing as a free lunch, and that they should stay with their mother or father
