Being suspended for saying something offensive is stupid, I think. If a fight followed, then yeah, I could understand. But if he just said a word? Eh...yeah, that doesn't make any sense. If they had wanted to punish him, there were other ways to do it. Detention, make him clean the desks...something like that.

No. Any offense taken is entirely the gay kid's fault.
That's another thing that pisses me off. He WASN'T offended when people call him gay homo or ****** he just says, "I know," acting like its a complement. He only told the teacher because he was being an asshole and wanted him in trouble.

Well then the kid shouldn't have been suspended.

Treat him like you would treat anyone else, beat the crap out of him for being a jackass.

What video game is this about? Sounds like some really boring game about being an idiot at school and thinking you should be able to get away with it to me.
I think you'll want to visit the gaming discussion [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/index/9] forums.

You must have got lost somewhere - this is off-topic.

Maybe someone moved it. I don't often check off topic becuase it is full of sophomoric bs like this. I'm pretty sure it was in gaming discussion.

"Gay" and "******" are not synonyms. The latter is very clearly derogatory. It's like saying that "black" and "******" are synonyms.
While you are correct, ****** isn't always derogatory towards gay people. It's got to the point that it's just a meaningless 'insult'.
Well, you have a great time explaining that to all the gay people that you call faggots without any consideration of its connotations. I'm sure they'll be completely understanding if it really has become "meaningless."
Well, it's their decision to let it get to them, isn't it? [/rhetorical]

The ****** deserved to be a called a ******, mainly because he's an annoying gay person. Just like I can be a Honky sometimes and a black person should be called a ****** if there an arsehole!

Look at it this way, in UK law you could get sacked at work for doing that. I'm sure the rest of the western world is similar.
For calling somebody a meaty gravy dumpling thing?

... or you could just call them an arsehole; that's nice and safe.

Also ****** dosn't mean gay ppl anymore it means Harley Bikers.
This guy speaks the truth! Although here in Europe it's more BMW bikers.

Back on point I think this is a case of political correctness gone too far. From what the OP is saying, had the guy said anything else, like F off, presumably he wouldn't have been suspended?

Then again, I guess some would argue it's a rascist slur in the same way as the N word. Overall, I think it's extreme to suspend someone for this isolate reason alone.

Yep, just the site of those things offend me. It's like they're cursing my mother.

He shouldn't have been suspended. I imagine that the guy was doing some sexual harassment, or else calling him a fag would have been pointless and just hateful. He was describing what the guy did to him (act gay around or on him), and I can kinda see where he was coming from. I know some gay people who are just normal people, and the thought of someone doing something like that is appalling to them, and it just makes the rest of them look bad. One of the friends of my family (who is gay) actually said "I hate me a ******."

This, but I still think a suspension is a bit much.

Whilst Gay and ****** are not synonyms, neither is ******, strictly speaking, derogatory. It's been appropriated as an offensive term (by idiots) true enough, but a tree isn't a weapon until somebody is beaten with a stick.

Or a bundle of sticks, come to think about it.

... a bundle of sticks... caled a ******.

I'm of the mind that people are already way too damned obnoxiously sensitive about things people call them, and I think that is a horrible and damaging trend in the US. People need to get some fucking thicker skin if they don't want to be pathetic wusses their entire life.

I think suspension is pretty severe for something like that. It's a very sensative subject for some people... but I think that detention or better yet, half detention and half meeting with a counselor for a session would be better... to talk about the why, while still punishing him

That's why I said "Any offense", not "The offense". Learn to read.
