All I'm seeing here is Abort it, Abort it. Now, I'm not against abortion. Inf act, I'm pro choice. However, has anyone here actually had to make that decision? When faced with the real life situation, with the balance of your child's life hanging in you hands, would you actually be able to do it? I don't think that I could, unless the doctor could somehow convince me that it would be better for the child, and not becasue "I would be miserable."

Also, there would have to be something incredibly, obviously wrong for them to know that the child would be handicapped only two weeks into the pregnancy. Most people don't even know that they are pregnant two weeks in.

Abortions debatable but there's nothing wrong with it only 2 weeks into the pregnancy.

I'd abort it and hope for a child that could live a normal life.

i'd abort it. My reasons probably more selfish than "it would have a joyless existance", I personally think that the human race is already in danger of stagnation. I personally couldn't have a child that was retarded, for what purpose would i want a child like that? Like having a child who was paralysed, strikes me as pointless. Considering the child isn't born, i definitely wouldn't keep it. I'd rather try for another who wouldn't suffer this fate.

Kill it.
But then I'm pro-choice under any and every circumstance, and I hate children so even if the SO decides to keep it I'm leaving anyway.

Besides that, a mentally damaged child would be a constant drain on me and my hypothetical wife, financially and emotionally. And it would be a burden on other people when we're gone, so where is the benefit of keeping it?

Abortion. I like children, but having to care for one who would never develop past the mental age of 1 would just not be the same. If they stopped mentally developing at a later age such as 5 - 7 that wouldn't be so bad as atleast they're be able to speak, walk properly, play simple games, maybe even read and write a bit, but at 1 all you would have was a huge adult-baby barely able to move itself, probably no speech, require constant changing... *shudders*

Well, since my opinion of children at the best of times rivals the blood god Khorne, you can probably guess.

Abort.

Abort. I'm for thinning the herd anyway but I'd be a terrible father to any child, let alone a mentally stunted one. At this point in my life, I see raising a child as lowering my normal level of intelligence for the sake of nurturing another human being. This is difficult for me, as I'm currently looking for more intelligent friends anyway.

Of course, if I loved the girl, and she wanted to keep it, I'd commit. I'd try my best, but I'd probably become the same kind of father as my own dad was to me, distant but friendly. The cycle continues, i guess.

I would abort it, if i would have any kids. Though the chances are very slim at the moment...

Anyways a life like that isnt a life at all. For the child and myself.

Abortion. and speaking of abortion, I don't even think of an unborn baby as a human, much more as a tumor with potential. I don't even think you have a personality or something before you utter your first word, so there.

Abort it without a second breath or though. It would be miserable, and more importantly, I would be miserable.
A lot of people will be like "OMG, you're killin' babees!" but no, we're not.

ABORT!
Personally, I only think it's a baby when it's 100% developed and ready to come out. In fact, fetuses fit the definition of a parasite.

Yeah, pointing that out tends to piss people off.
I called it a tumor, but this fits the situation better. And yes, I have made several people(including my mother) very angry with this statement.

At this point in time, I would have to say, terminate the pregnancy. I don't think I could cope with a mentally retarded child right now. I don't think I could watch my child be that way and not be miserable. And, by extension, that would make my child miserable. It wouldn't be fair on me, or the child.

Abort, I dont think me or my girlfriend could cope with such a dilema, and putting it up for adoption wouldnt seem fair either, All we would be doing is making someone elses life that bit more difficult.

I would raise it regardless i have an uncle who is pretty much like that and has been raised by my granny for the last 30/40 something years, just because they may be mentally handicapped does not mean they can not enjoy life. My uncle is always happy and makes me fee happy when i see him, the idea of ending someones life solely because they are not "normal" sickens me and putting it up for adoption just means someone else has to deal with what you weren't prepared to it doesnt make the childs life much easier.

Sorry this is a topic very close to me and im sorry if i got a bit ranty

Immediate abortion without a picoseconds hesitance. Why raise a child which can only be loathed and lonely? Would anyone here want to live like that? This is just an utter no-brainer.
