Depends on how much is in there. If it's 5 bucks ill take it. If it's 500 ill return it. It's more likely to get a reward then.

Take the money and leave the wallet. Sorry, but its not my problem that they dropped it.

I'd return the whole thing to them but I'd do some investigative work sifting through its contents figuring out what kind of person they are, maybe try and guess what clothes they'll be wearing when I see them.

I would use any information in their wallet to contact them and return it and I would certainly not steel anything from it.

I found a wallet once in high school, had some cards but no cash, found an address on one of the cards so i decided to return it, i did not take anything out of the wallet.

Went to the address knocked on the door the guy who answered looked like the photo on the cards so i told him i found his wallet and returned it to him, the only thing he did was look through it and then accuse me of taking the money in it, he got up in my face and i got very close to punching his lights out i just walked off instead.

Long story short, i would never return a wallet again, wouldn't even pick it up.

This happened once. I had to tell my friend to just leave it with the money inside. No idea who it belonged to, but I guess I'm quite moral.

I would just hand it in. Someone is missing it, they'll come back and get it at some point.

If the money's missing, they'll assume they were robbed and it was dumped.
But last time this happened, I returned it. I'm a nice chap. So I guess I wouldn't rob.

I would use the driver's license to track the person down, return the wallet and save their phone number. I would then call them starting two months later, doing so once a week, to deliver criticisms to their life based on what I could gather from the contents of the wallet until a restraining order is filed. Then everybody wins.
Pretty much this.

I'd take the money and leave the wallet.

If they can't take care of it, it's because they don't really need it.

I'd stare at the wallet hoping for a sign from God that tells me to take the money from it. When this doesn't happen I'd probably pick it up, see if there's a way of returning it and if their isn't I'd put it back where I'd found it and walk off.

Generally speaking I think there is a noticeable level of carelessness in leaving a wallet with large sums of cash anywhere.

The person owning it should likely rethink their lifestyle habits.

However id's and such should be returned, that sort of loss can be far more inconvenient than money lost (speaking from experience).

I lost my wallet in Quebec was despairing over it. it had:
30$ Canadian
ID from my state
Debit card, i think that was all.

When i got home it was in the mail waiting for me. This taught me two or three things....
1. There are some very nice people in the world who are not out for their own benefit.
2. Some Canadians are the nicest people you will meet.
3. I must return the favor at all times though indirectly so yea.

I would probably just return it. While I see no moral problems with stealing, why bother? It's too much trouble, plus if I return it, there is a very good chance of getting a small reward - or getting to know the other person or even snoop around their home =P

It could make you a friend, y'know. Contacts go a long way.

Now if I just found some cash, clearly lost, I'd probably take it. There is no clear way to contact the person, and whatever.
who knows maybe you'll be giving the wallet back that happens to belong to an STD free nymphomaniac who is willing to rock your world as thanks.

It was in a magazine so that sort of stuff must be true. ;)

Canadians are the bomb. At least the ones I've met.
