Excellent piece on Constantine, I never read it because the film had a fetish for CGI monsters.

Spider Jerusalem. 'I don't have to put up with this shabby crap! I'm a journalist!'
Someone on this site has an Avatar of Patrick Steward with those glasses, I'd always wondered why, now I know, just googled Spider Jerusalem too... seems interesting, I'm just getting into comic books again and I've borrowed my neighbours favourite to get me started.

hmmm. gonna go with Penance (cause, really, he's just badass) or Daredevil (cause, really, he's just badass).
though, to be fair, all i really read is marvel.
followups would be nightcrawler, two-face, hawkeye and bulleseye

Green Lantern is always a decent story - the recent Blackest Night was great.
I really loved the giant lead-up to the Blackest Night with the different lantern corps and the War of Light and all, but the event itself was kinda disappointing to me. Less of a proper story and more of a convenient excuse to bring back a shitload of dead characters. And the whole "Earth's heroes are the true champions of life and they can defeat the cosmic villain with their aura of goodness" felt like a giant ass-pull to me.

I love DC, but their big events never cease to let me down. At least Marvel strikes gold once in a while with their big crossovers (Annihilation was fucking awesome).

Does Fighter from 8 Bit Theater count?
He's a character... from a comic...

So sure, he counts. :)

Spider-Man, Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim, Goku. Those are who I like. It's a shame that Scott Pilgrim is coming to an end.

The movie is nothing like the comic, really. It borrows some storyline elements, but that's it.

Movie Constantine:
- American
- Magical gunslinger
- Professional exorcist
- Emo because he can see demons
- Damned because he tried to kill himself
- His driver Chaz is some annoying kid who wants to be like him
- Deals with stupid 'half-breed' demons
- Gabriel falls because he helped a demon
- The devil cures him to 'give him a new chance to damn himself'
- More action than horror

Comic Constantine:
- British
- Magical con-man
- Jack of all trades
- Jaded because he's seen way more evil shit than most men can endure
- Damned himself by being a rotten bastard, striking deals with demons, and sending a little girl straight to hell in a botched exorcism
- His driver Chaz is one of his few surviving childhood friends who reluctantly helps him because he feels he owes him
- Deals with neo-Nazis, serial killers, mobsters, demons, voodoo priests, ghosts, and other assorted nastiness
- Gabriel falls because Constantine set him up, had his heart torn out, and cut his wings off
- The devil cures him because his death would cause a war between the three most powerful entities in Hell, making them vulnerable to the armies of Heaven
- More horror than action

I love Ultimate Spiderman, but as someone has already mentioned, Scott Pilgrim is insanely awesome.

My favorite character of all time is Spider-Man followed by Green Lantern (yeah, I was a GL fan before he became cool).

I'd always been a Marvel Zombie since before the Shooter era but as much as it pains me, I have to say that right now, DC is the better publisher. Quesada let Marvel go to shit with his editorial demands and his reliance on Bendis' ideas. They've had too many "The Marvel Universe will NEVER be the same again*" storylines, coupled with way too many unneccesary spin off mini series that barely tie into the overall story at all.

*NEVER means once the story is over everything will be like it was before it started, but you will have spent over $400 following it to find that out. Be sure to catch our next Universe changing story in four months time! Bring Money!!!!

I would absolutely reccommend anyone read Transmetropolitan. It's just amazing.

Deadpool and Hawkeye tie for me. Pretty different, but that just goes to show that Marvel can make some really interesting characters without always following the "I'm a good guy and you're not" code.

I'll ask my neighbour, he's big on comics so hopefully he can point me in the right direction.
