Okay, I don't know if this has been done but lets say that you are in a room with two buttons. One says that if you will press it the rest of the human race will be killed - instantly vanish into thin air dead. The other says that you die and life goes on for the rest of the humans. Somehow you know that the buttons are real, through magic.(magic? thats creative) Also, you have to choose RIGHT NOW, also because of magic.

Also, how about for the purposes of this thread we say the atheists are right? Otherwise religious people will die to go to heaven. Please don't turn this into a religious debate...

SO WHICH DO YOU CHOOSE ESCAPIST?

Personally, I would choose to live. Your existense isn't something to be objectively moral about, imo.

Uh. Myself. Durrrrrr. The extinction of the human race and the death of thousands of years of culture would sadden me more than my own.

Although I might have to spend a week mentally preparing in that room before I actually get myself to push the button.

Umm, me for Six billion people? No, then who would finish making all those games I want to play?

Also, if you didn't want a religious debate, why would you bring religion into it?

Objectively, there really is only one option. If I kill humanity and live, then it's only a matter of time (roughly 60-70 years) before all human life is extinguished, not to mention how pointless and boring everything would be. No internet or electricity or ANY of that stuff. I'd be dead in a week anyway.

Suprisingly probably myself.
If everyone else is dead, who else is there to play cod with? Oh right... Combat training....
But yeah it'd just be too boring and depressing.
And I don't want my favorite musician to stop making music.

uhm... yeah as much as i like life - a world all to myself gets lonely really fucking quick, and i would probably die from some disease/wound/starvation/exposure not long after that anyway

to choose one's own life over the rest of our species would require an unparreld level of selfisness and if you seriously choose that then I think your parents really really really fucked up in raising you.

Do I really need to say what my choice is?

Well I'd kill myself, obviously. You'd probably end up doing it anyway after you'd kill the 7 billion other people on the planet.

If you die, doesn't it make the rest of the human race meaningless? It may seem harsh but after you die none of that sort of thing is really going to matter. I think I could have fun by myself, and if I did happen to get bored, killing myself would be an option...

I imagine both.

OT: Probably everyone else, ceasing to exist forever is going to suck, I'm putting it off.

The world would suck, being all alone.
Why keep on living when the world sucks?

You have to! There is no choice. The magic is forcing you to think that there is no time for some reason, don't ask how this happens :/
Or you could say that everyone dies.

This is an excellent point.
Nevermind the sudden shock-isolation of being the last person in a world that once held billions: Everything would just shut down. Besides: If you are able to survive long enough to get to die of old age (Unlikely), what kind of life is that anyways? My life has value because it's enriched by those around me, not by me just existing. Without my family, my friends, and my wife, what does my life have? Life wouldn't be worth living.

Didn't anyone see 'Into the Wild'?

Yes me. Me, me, me... Me too.

I would be the sole survivor, what, it's not like I can concur the world any other way...

What if you let everyone die but you yourself are pregnant? Just hope for a boy, then attempt repopulation and hope to God you don't go through menopause before he can become father to imbred children.
