They let me play anyway, because they know me and my brother are mature enough to not act out what we see in violent games. However, they can hardly stop me anyway, I have my own Xbox 360, laptop and DS, and I live away from home while at university...

I got crap for spending to long playing games, never anything about what kind of games.

I remember when they bought me Doom. How I loved that game.

I pretty much try to keep my parents away from most of the games I play. They're not against me playing them, but they don't necessarily like what I'm playing...which is kind of contradictory but that's the way it is.

I think they have enough sense to see them in the same vein as violent movies and loud sweary music; They may not like what I'm listening/watching/playing but they're not going to stop me. I think they have enough faith in me for me to make my own decisions about what I do and do not do. Honestly, if I hadn't become a part of this kind of community I never would have even considered the thought that games could "corrupt the minds of our children". And I don't think they've ever considered it either. It's just not as big an issue in the UK.

So, to sum up, I play the games I want to play, but I'm hardly going to show how sweat it is when a raiders head explodes in Fallout 3 to my mum.

my parents are fine with violence, but they won't let me get most games with sexual themes and drug reference and stuff
See, this is the kind of thing that makes me and my parents pull a "WTF?" moment. Blowing up a head is fine but if a character smokes weed or a girl shows a boob and we've gone too far? It's a part of modern day society that I'll never understand.

I started getting interested in video games at a young, may be 5 or 7, i just remember my dad playing the original half life, I loved the head crabs :) I pretty much started playing rated M games right off the bat, my parents didn't care at all, but thats mostly because i was actually mature at a young age, while most of you at that age weren't. Also consider that we are not a religious family, were not stupid nor do we devote our selves to carrying out what the media tells us to...

My mother spoke to me about it awhile ago. when i was like 9. It went like this.

''Don't copy anything you see or hear in games.''
'Ok.'

Amazing.

My parents don't particularly care, probably because they knew that my brother was letting me play violent video games as a kid and I wasnt very interested :p

Seems like a lot of the Escapist's parents are pretty understanding.

My grandmother, just a few weeks ago, laughed when I threw a guard in Assassin's Creed 2 off of a building. It was a very joyful moment.

Well, my parents used to let me play anything under an M rating, but that was when I was around 10. Now(I'm 15) my parents really don't care and more often that not they don't even know what games I own.

My parents let me play that kind of stuff often, namely because they also play those games which is awesome.

Dad is pretty easy going on what I play, however, my mum on the other hand is completely different.

But I believe that if I honestly wanted an 18 game, they wouldn't have a problem if they saw what it was like.

Nothing rated M or where I personally shoot humans with bullets. I can borrow whatever I want though so I'm playing RE4 and CoD 5 all the time. I'm more of a strategy gamer anyways. The only things that I can't play no matter what are GTA, Manhunt, and those porn games.

So really I can pretty much play anything that I actually want to play. Besides, I can already drive, it wont be too long until I move out, if the economy picks up that is.

violent games? yes. m rated? no. i couldn't get m rated games till i was 18...at which point i got a job and got a butt load of em. i should also note i was not allowed to get teen rated games till i was 14
A little like this. I used to be able to play m games until a year ago when I made a stupid decision and now I can't until further notice. It sucks. A lot.

EDIT: Except I can play Crysis.

Dad doesn't give a toss what I play as long as my work is done and mom doesn't know about it (if she wouldn't approve of the game, that is)

I am not aloud to play grand theft auto ):
But I think I am smart enough to separate fiction from non-fiction, but my parents dont trust me to with my own decisions....
But still when you reach 13 and not a immature idiot, you should be aloud to play any game you want, least in my book.
Also drive to the beach in GTA3 and your game will be taken away.... D:
