I find them to be un-needed unless they're for hunting or self defense.

And if I wanted to shoot at targets, I could use a BB gun.

Im a card carrying member of The NRA(National Rifle Association, for the morons out there) and not only do I love my guns, I also have a tremendous respect and a justified amount of fear for how powerful they are. I follow basic gun safety rules anytime, Im around them or handling them. And its my humble opinion that the best use of a gun is in the defense of a nation and self.

Also I balk at anyone who feels that bans on guns are the best way for us to protect ourselves yet when they get thier way they procure concealed carry permits inspite of all thier lobbying, shit throwing and fighting. (Im looking at you Brady campaign bastards) A criminal who's not allowed by law who wants a gun isn't gonna be stopped by a ban or them not being sold, if he wants it badly enough he'll obtain it and that quite frankly leaves the rest of us(who will abide by the law whatever it may be) screwed, asking to be screwed(or killed). The best way to stop a criminal with a gun isn't with a call to the police(who on average will take atleast 5 minutes to arrive on scene, depending on where you are) its with a gun in capable hand that you use to either disarm or kill him. And then thier are gun free zones but that my fellow escapists is for another post.

Choice #1. There's only one reason firearms exist - to kill things. You can sugarcoat it with phrases like "protection" or "fear", but it's only the fear of getting shot and dying that offers that protection.

Or for shooting targets, or for collecting, or reenacting historical battles, or scaring off wild animals...

Guns were invented to kill things, true. However that doesn't mean they can only be used to kill things.

It depends on the context, for example, giving a bunch of people who are mentally insane a bunch of guns is pretty dangerous, but give a bunch of guns to a dozen acrobats and let them loose in a water park or something, and what you've got is a damned good TV show.

It all depends in whose hands the gun rests. In the hands of someone who is responsible, sensible, and fully aware of the power of said gun, it is a tool meant to protect, for hunting game, target shooting, and as a collection piece. In the hands of those who are not, it can and will be very dangerous to themselves and others.

I've never minded them. I finally got to shoot a few guns for the first time the other day and I loved it. Might have to buy my own now.

Guns can save your life but take another in the process, guns can be a symbol of power that make people cower at your feet, and guns can get you money that other weapons cant.

Well, I am a cadet in the Rifleman's Association, so I guess... GUNS!! WOOO! AWESOME!!

I enjoy shooting guns. But I also know that even a BB gun is fatal when shot by a decent marksman with enough accuracy.

i keep seeing posts of "guns don't kill people, people kill people." but it's really hard to accidentally stab someone to death, but really easy to forget about the round in the chamber. but it's one of those things where it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it, because any retarded monkey can kill the most skilled swordsman without breaking a sweat, if they have a gun. so the only real way to protect yourself in a gun fight is to use a gun and be faster to shoot with enough aim to hit

Guns have recently become to me not so much as tools, but malevolent weapons. I am terrified by their power, even when using them on a practice range. I don't trust them, and fear them greatly.

What do you think about firearms?

EDIT: It might be worth noting that, ironically, I'm a very accurate shot...
But Guns helped Jesus and Moses conquer the Romans :p

I really can't understand why everyone is so afraid of firearms. Yes, when used maliciously they can cause death, as do cars, airplanes, swords, knives, bamboo, cages, potassium, chainsaws, sticks, rocks, snakes, piano wire, etc. So why not ban them as well?

I don't know if ya'll are old enough to get this yet, but we live in a very dangerous and violent world. People do bad things to each other and they always will. Thinking that ridding anyone of weapons will cease violence is ignorance.

Now with that said, I hate conflict, I don't like confrontations and I think loss of life is terrible. I think we can all agree with this. So how would you be able to help maintain this philosophy in such a violent world? I believe the answer is for honest, responsible citizens to carry firearms. Granted, this isn't for everyone, I have lots of friends who love guns and love shooting be choose not to carry, it's their own decision and I respect it. But look at the horrible things that have happened at Ft. Hood and VT. These are small scale instances of 'Gun Free' environments that led to a massive loss of life because of madmen.

If we were to have large scale disarming of the populace, then it would become even easier for these events to take place. An example being Derrick Bird of the UK, a country where most guns are illegal and gun ownership is very rare. He shot 37 people over 30 different locations.

A lot of you said you'd rather leave you and your neighbors safety to the police, I say you should have the capability of defending yourself with firearms. The incident in the UK backs up my case tremendously, where were the police to protect you?

Disarming the populace will not make your safer. Carrying a firearm with you at all times will not make you safer. But, it will give you more options should you be the victim of a violent crime.

Right on dude.

For the rest of the escapists who have no idea what he's talking about. In our legislature we have lobbyists and all that jazz. When going into our federal buildings you're required to pass through a metal detector UNLESS you are a Concealed Handgun License holder, in which case you can bypass the line at the metal detector. The fore mentioned politician and lobbyist group is actually against the owning, using and concealing of firearms. But when they realized they can get through security much more quickly with a CHL license, they all went to the gun range and got their handgun permits. Thus also becoming hypocrites.

Guns scare the crap out of me.
If I really needed something to defend myself,I would prefer something like a baseball bat.Even than I take self-defence very little, arming or preparing to defend myself just seems like an invitation for someone to give my a reason to protect myself.

This is the attitude of an individual with a tiny penis.
So wait, I live in the rural area too, why doesn't what you said about the prior guy apply to me? Just because I also make a hobby of target shooting means that you look down on me when I also go hunting? Or is it that I live where it takes police nearly 15 minutes to get to where I live if they care to come at all, so a gun is a nice thing to have?

There have been multiple times where I've had to chase off robbers from my house, and I can tell you, not even having a gun loaded, but having it was enough to chase them away.

So you like knives, good for you, I have several myself, as they are useful tools. But making some derogatory patronizing comment because you don't like what I said, shows you to really be just an idiot.

I find guns rather as a fascination other than anything else... they just show how far our race has evolved since the dawn of man.

Oh come ON. 'Tossin off a few rounds'. Even sounds phallic.
Well, that's a difference between British and American. We don't use the word "tosser" or "tossing" as a derogatory unless we're doing so in a mock British accent. Lost in translation, so fine and dandy. Besides, name ONE thing you can say about shooting a gun that doesn't have any innuendo possibilities? I sure can't think of any.
