Poll: Zed or Zee

And I'm american.

Here in Australia we pronounce it as Zed

zed all the way (Canada). It's actually quite an insult to tell someone they say zee in my area. not sure how far out this applies to. just walk around and interject something like "yeah, and I bet you pronounce it zee, don't ya?" and you'll get smacked. I don't know why.

I say Zee personally. And I live in France but I learnt English in Singapore (Canadian School there but English father). Zed...I dunno, not a huge fan of it though I do say it sometimes. But mostly Zee.

I've learned the following since moving to Australia:

In USA they pronounce Z as "zee", H as "aych", and hamburger as "ham-bur-ger"
In Australia they pronounce Z as "zed", H as "haych", and hamburger as "fa-ale"

I'm Canadian and I pronounce it "Zed". There are already numerous letters with a pronunciation similar to "Zee". So it can be confusing at times if something is misheard.

I use both and I'm English it's more to do with the context it's used in. If I'm spelling something I'd use Zed but if it's used as a phrase or name such as Jay-z / ZPM I'd use Zee.

I say Zed. Zedbra, the Zed Key etc ect. I'm english but have moved to Australia, in england msot people say Zed, over here they say Zee mostly.

Zuh = Sound of letter.

Zee = Stupid american name of letter.


It's a name people, it doesn't have to sound like it's said. This is why we have W = Doubleyou yet pronounce it Wuh.

in English i always say "Zee" but on my native language (Dutch) i pronounce it as "Zed"
