I look at Final Fantasy in the same way I look at Zelda, Mario and to some extent Prince of Persia. It's a brand, not a game series. It's basically telling you what the game is about, how it plays, the style of it, the theme of the plot and so on. It's got to the point where Final Fantasy is almost the studio name, and X XII are the game names. Occasionally this lets them do some pretty neat things with the series (The foreshadowing about the Gardens in 8 just because the headmaster is called Cid, the character design throwbacks in 9, the massive emotional punch when summons are used as nukes in 9, the airship names in 12)henritje said:the why do they number them?Jamienra said:um there not sequels.henritje said:any game set in WWO2 THIS PATH IS OVER! and the Final Fantasy series for dragging on for 10+ sequals

Agreed, I hate those games too, but Guitar Hero CAN be fun when you're drunk along with a lot of friends, who is also drunk.slowpoke999 said:Guitar hero games, how can a literal button mashing game where you time notes scrolling down a screen be considered fun?I thought those types of games where restricted to reaction testers for 6 year olds.

So much of the Final Fantasy hate would be completely obliterated if Square just gave them all unique names, or even thematic names like the -Shock games.
Also, cribbing shamelessly from the Movies You Hate thread - Why is EVERYTHING the worst ever? Or the best ever? Is it not possible to like something despite its faults? Can something not be poor-but-enjoyable (Say, Wolverine. Yes the effects were poor and the story was stupid but the fights were kinda nice and the final showdown was pretty neat) or excellent-but-flawed (Say, The Dark Knight)? The tendency towards extremes annoys the hell out of me.
That made it exciting. I remember my heart racing because I had 10 health left and I knew I was about to get into a big firefight. That's why I enjoyed FPS games. With regen, I just hide behind a box for a minute.archvile93 said:What's so bad about regen health? before, all you had was a health bar which really pissed me off since it was fairly common to go into a massive boss fight with 2 health.dx__ said:Anything with regenerating health. I explained why I hate regen health in my last post, but I mean when realism and graphics take precedence over the fun factor of the game, or the storyline (hopefully, a game will be fun AND have a good storyline, but sometimes - people sacrifice one for the other). I like realism in games - I don't like when a game is made boring by the realism or the storyline takes a seat behind graphics.sneeky033 said:how can you hate both regenerating health and realism?dx__ said:Anything with regenerating health. They're not sequels, they're different games.henritje said:any game set in WWO2 THIS PATH IS OVER! and the Final Fantasy series for dragging on for 10+ sequals
