You heard me right, Portal 2, a game that's been out for 11 days, is already on sale for $20 off (all platforms) at Gamestop.

Source here [http://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=16k-portal+2].

Now...I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, I think Portal 2 was worth every penny of the $45 I spent on it (pre-order discount), but I'm annoyed that I am indirectly being, for lack of a better word, punished for buying the game on Day 1. I'm perfectly okay with sales like this a couple months down the line, but $20 off when not even two weeks have passed? Sorry Valve (or Gamestop, whoever authorized it), but that's a bit of a dick move.

On the bright side, those of you who haven't picked this brilliant game up...you have no excuse anymore.

I think having no money whatsoever and refusing to pirate Valve games is a valid enough excuse.

On topic, however, yes, that's kind of a ridiculous price drop after a week and a half.

I was exaggerating to prove a point, there are obviously valid excuses (for example, you flat-out don't like Portal).

Actually, my price point for games that have only recommendations and no demo is $20. So I'm gonna keep waiting.

That seems... strange. Well I have no problem supporting a company like Valve with a few extra bucks. I won't be rating them down until they release a bad game.

Valve is kinda notorious for doing things like these, so I'm kinda not surprised.

It is still a dick move on their part though, but I wouldn't call it punishment for the rest of us that bought the game at launch.

That's kind of why I feel bad about using the word "punishment," though I can't think of a better term. Like I said, it was well worth the $50 price tag but I feel...maybe "cheated" is the right word.

Should have waited then...Don't feel ripped off, though.

Gamestop isn't doing this as a dick move, but as a sale. They're trying to stay competitive...

And, well, it seems to be working. Last month's sale was quite good, imo.

It's not Valve doing this, honestly.

Tell me when it's for sale on Steam.
Still, this is cool too, I guess.

Portal has a demo, why not play that and see if you like it?

I apologize if I'm coming across as irrational; I certainly don't think Gamestop is doing this out of malicious intent. I just find it odd that the people who waited less than two weeks can pick the game up for $20 cheaper than those who bought it day 1.

Gamestop are not Valve, that price is a recommended retail price, as in 'this is the price we recommend you sell it for but you can change that'.
Hence why I said "Valve (or Gamestop, whoever authorized it)."

I own Portal 1. I buy sequels when I see that they have vastly expanded on the original's concepts in interesting ways - not if it's just "more of the same" (though I make exceptions when the "expansion" is cheap). If I wanted to just keep playing Portal, I'd download user-made maps. If Portal 2's gameplay is solely the stuff from Portal 1 with no expansion or new ideas, I'm suddenly not interested.
And if it IS expansion and new ideas, then I'd like to try it out and determine if those new ideas are actually fun before I spend $50 on it. (or $30)

That's normal, when you pre-order something you should think about the possibility the price will drop sharply soon after.

Using the word "punishment" makes you sound entitled....

In other news. Eh, I already have the game. Do I care that is went on sale a few days after I bought it? Nope, I wanted the game and deemed that it was well worth what I was paying for it then.

Don't really know why people complain about these things.

I don't at all for paying full price and not waiting. I enjoyed the hell out of the game and still am from time to time. Co-op is fun as well and now my friends who couldn't get it before are able to afford it so I get to play with them. I am quite happy that this happened. Though I can see where you are coming from.
