Wait...what? There are people who...didn't like Portal? This information isn't processing.JeanLuc761 said:(for example, you flat-out don't like Portal).
More likely is that it made back its budget multiple times over, and Valve lowered the price to celebrate. Which will result in more sales and more money.Soylent Bacon said:Is Portal 2 unpopular in general or something? Usually the games that get this cheap this quickly are ones that the majority of people just don't care about. I don't think Portal 2 is any Call of Duty or Halo, but I've been seeing enough ads for it everywhere that I thought it was still up there in the "popular mainstream games that will stay pricey for a while" category.
Nothing about this is a surprise to me. You didn't see this coming?JeanLuc761 said:You heard me right, Portal 2, a game that's been out for 11 days, is already on sale for $20 off (all platforms) at Gamestop.
Play Portal 2. If you liked portal 1, You'll LOVE portal 2.Katana314 said:Actually, my price point for games that have only recommendations and no demo is $20. So I'm gonna keep waiting.
Before this happens, the universe will've ended. Twice. And Chuck Norris's beard will have to fall out three times on one saturday, on may the third, in 1996. If it happens otherwise, no blue box will emerge. EVERRisingblade said:I'll wait for Blue Box since it will come with Portal 2 Halflife episode 3 and Team fortress 3![]()
LIES! Everyone likes portal! even GLaDOS does! And She doesn't even know there is a game called portal!Kheapathic said:/raises his hand
I'm one of those people.
Portal 1 had also been out for 2 1/2 years and cost $10.Kunzer said:Nothing about this is a surprise to me. You didn't see this coming?JeanLuc761 said:You heard me right, Portal 2, a game that's been out for 11 days, is already on sale for $20 off (all platforms) at Gamestop.
I sure as hell did not buy portal 2. I might spend $5 on it, maybe.
You do know that portal 1 was given away for free not too long ago on steam, yes?

Now...I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, I think Portal 2 was worth every penny of the $45 I spent on it (pre-order discount), but I'm FURIOUS that I am indirectly being, for lack of a better word, punished for buying the game on Day 1. I'm perfectly okay with sales like this a couple months down the line, but $20 off when not even two weeks have passed? Sorry Valve (or Gamestop, whoever authorized it), but that's a bit of a dick move.
On the bright side, those of you who haven't picked this brilliant game up...you have no excuse anymore.
It's a $20 difference, not a $5 difference. I'm just frustrated about the situation.Plazmatic said:A: this is gamestops doingJeanLuc761 said:You heard me right, Portal 2, a game that's been out for 11 days, is already on sale for $20 off (all platforms) at Gamestop.

B: really? 5$ difference? and your that mad?
C: I bought mine on steam, so it was even cheaper than that. lol
The game was $45 for pre-order on PC, $55 on consoles. It's currently on sale for $30 on PC, $40 for consoles.Xzi said:If you bought it even one day before launch, it was $45. Now you're complaining that it's temporarily on sale for $40? That doesn't punish anyone.
Pro-tip: Mods on this site auto-ban people who admit to piracy.Zeetchmen said:Good thing I got it pirated and didn't pay a dime ^o^
Good business tatic though, they know everyone who really wanted it bought it already and now lowered the price for those who were contemplateing it.
I doubt that, the only criticism I've seen from both critic and user was the Day One DLC.Therumancer said:It doesn't surprise me terribly.
People have been blaming the outcry over the DLC as leading to a "metabombing" of Portal 2's ratings. As I've said before, I think the game was simply not being that well received by users to begin with, and people were just latching onto the people screaming about the DLC (and argueing about DLC is what all the dicussions about the subject have generally come down to when I've been involved).
We'll see what happens, but I'm not going to be shocked if the game is down to $20 or less by this time next year.
In sweden its the other way around, most of the big titles drop in price super quick, while smaller titles stay expensive for years.Soylent Bacon said:Usually the games that get this cheap this quickly are ones that the majority of people just don't care about.

Portal 2 has been out for 11 days and (ordinarily) costs $50-60.
With respect, I did say in the OP that I felt Portal 2 was more than worth the $50. In retrospect, it would have been good to post this topic after I had thought about it some moreKunzer said:I am aware of these things that you have just said.
I'm telling you that while portal 1 may currently cost $10, It was given to me for free by steam.
There was no special catch -- all steam users had the opportunity to have the game for free.
It was a week long event.
Also, it should be mentioned that if you love a game enough to buy it on day one, then you should be having enough fun that you don't care or even don't realize that the game has gone on sale.
If you are more concerned about money than you are about your game experience (which is perfectly reasonable) then don't buy games on day one.
