You heard me right, Portal 2, a game that's been out for 11 days, is already on sale for $20 off (all platforms) at Gamestop.

Source here [http://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=16k-portal+2].

Now...I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, I think Portal 2 was worth every penny of the $45 I spent on it (pre-order discount), but I'm annoyed that I am indirectly being, for lack of a better word, punished for buying the game on Day 1. I'm perfectly okay with sales like this a couple months down the line, but $20 off when not even two weeks have passed? Sorry Valve (or Gamestop, whoever authorized it), but that's a bit of a dick move.

On the bright side, those of you who haven't picked this brilliant game up...you have no excuse anymore.
Once the product is paid for by the retailer the Dev/publisher has no say in how it's sold.

Even if i knew the price would drop in week, I would still buy it opening day for 20 dollars more. I don't have an issue here. They made an amazing game that everyone should try.

Actually, my price point for games that have only recommendations and no demo is $20. So I'm gonna keep waiting.
Play Portal 2. If you liked portal 1, You'll LOVE portal 2.
And it's cheap now, and no Valve game has ever sucked balls. At worst, you'll find it mediocre, but tolerable for 20$.
What? I despised Left 4 Dead, and found its sequel only marginally better.
Mmh, why did you despise it? I couldn't find a flaw in the gameplay, nor in the characters. Ofc, the story is not really good, because there really is not much of a story but the background is getting better and better. I thought it was/is a fine Zombiegame, with an high focus on sticking togheter.
Arguing that someone enjoyed a game when they didn't is a lost cause.

I thought the game was horribly imbalanced in versus, the singeplayer was not interesting, the melee attack was overpowered and overused, the zombies felt unthreatening, and instead of rewarding you for sticking with teammates, it just punishes you for leaving them, ultimately making a game for which the rules are just about "DON'T do X.", which is not a great way to build a game.

I could go ON AND ON about Left 4 Dead. To put it succinctly, you're not going to convince me that I like it in a forum thread. I'm fine that other people enjoy it, but I don't, and that's the end of the story.

I think having no money whatsoever and refusing to pirate Valve games is a valid enough excuse.

On topic, however, yes, that's kind of a ridiculous price drop after a week and a half.
This, I had it downloaded.. but, I just couldn't install it. So I shift-deleted it as soon as I could.

Portal 2 can wait. I have plenty of games to keep me occupied till I can get it. I don't think I'll be able to get it till june.

Oh well, at least I have minecraft.

This is really how price points should always work IMO. It should be down by about 50% after a month permanently. The folks that are going to pay launch price.... pay it at launch. Not very many folks wait 2 weeks then go buy it at full price, unless they were busy or something. The only reason I see for keeping prices up is if you hope your game is gonna generate more buzz after launch via reviews and stuff. I really can't see that being the case with any valve titles, and especially not portal 2.

Doing this as practice would be a good thing, and probably make game companies more money.

Does GameStop ship internationally? And if they do,what is the shipping price for Europe?
I would be really cautious with buying Portal 2 from the states, it has insanely bad region locking. I bought a copy in Europe and when I came home to the states for Easter Break, I entered my code, tried to install, whoops you can only play this game in the region you bought it in.
I've been fighting valve damn near 2 weeks to get this fixed and I've pretty much gotten no where
1) Because their response time is usually 2 days and
2)(From my experience) don't even read your complaint, they just copy and paste from their FAQ.

And if you get a copy form a different region and get stuck in my situation good luck ever getting a playable portal 2 copy on your account. I've been asking them for days to remove my region locked copy from my account, my question/complaint submitted to them says "I have a region locked copy of Portal 2 on my account, please remove it so I can buy a copy in which the region my gaming computer is in"
Response: You must buy a copy of Portal 2 in your current region.
Me: Yes I know that, but I can't buy a copy of the game when the region locked one is still on my account.
Response: You must buy a copy of Portal 2 in your current region.

I've seriously had it up to hear with the absolutely terrible support system they have.
/rant end.

Just and FYI.
Thanks for the info man :).Anyways I live in Bulgaria and want to get Portal 2 (retail)for cheaper than .Because here they sell th game for 40 euro :/
Honestly it might be worth a shot if it is that expensive by you, if it doesn't work you could always try to return it?

How is not wanting to be a part of the bloated mess that is steam not a valid excuse? Price never had anything to do with why I didn't buy the game, I didn't buy the game because steam will not allow me to play at uni unless I have pre-planned it before leaving my internet connection.

Nope, still 5$, 45$-5 is 40, which is the current price they are selling it for, I don't know how you could mix up 20$ with 5$ but ok
On consoles, the game is $60. On PC, the game is $50.
Now on sale, the game is $40 on console and $30 on PC.

That's where I got the $20 from.
No, you're missing my point, the point was YOU didn't pay 60$ for the game.
The guy paid $45, now the game is selling for $30, that is still a $15 difference than what the guy paid for, not the $5 difference you claim. So how is he missing the point a $15-20 difference is still a chunk of money.
They are also selling it for 40$ on the same site, 30$ no longer available in most places.

That's nice, but the guy is talking about this specific sale with gamestop (which is still $30, and even Kmart is now $30).
I really don't know why or how you think you're going to come out right in this, the guy paid $45 (pre-order) and now a retailer is having it for $30 (we're talking about the PC retail copy), a $15 difference in only 2 weeks, it is kind of a stiff deal.

Did you talk to this guy in private? do you know he was talking about that specific sale at gamestop(which is not available) again, 5$ difference is not that big of a deal.

You sir, are absolutely insane.
How do I know he was talking about that specific sale at game stop? The guy is the original poster of the thread, he specifically says gamestop and even links to it.

Second, gamestop's deal is not available? I clicked the OP's link and looked for it myself on gamestop, it is still $29.99 for the PC.

And now you're saying again $5 difference isn't a big deal. Where are you getting this number? The original poster, the guy you quoted, he states specifically that he paid $45 for preorder.
The game is still on sale at gamestop, which I have proven is the deal he is talking about and a deal that is still going, for $30.
$45-$30 = $15. This is no $5 difference.
Maybe you're pulling a $45- 40 (for the Ps3/360) but you can't do that because the OP is talking about the fact he bought it from steam, which only sells the PC version. If you're arguing the PS3/360 price, the original price of those games from any retailer is $60, thus gamestop's deal of $40 for those is a $20 savings; $60-$40 = $20.
