I'm entitled to be irate if I'd spent £30 (or more) on a game and then find that there's £28 more of stuff that I wasn't allowed. It's a slap in the face. Valve used to be the flagship developer for PC, now its image is well and truly sullied.
What the
WHAT?
£28 more?
OK, now you're just trolling around.
Not really, that's the price of the rest of the DLC if you buy it 'as a deal'. It's more if you buy it individually.
"you can buy everything currently available at 56% off for ?only? £28, instead of £63." [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/19/robots-need-hats-portal-2-has-a-store/]
And all of that affects the game how, exactly?

I'd say the day 1 DLC is a legitimate complaint. DLC is a huge part of games nowdays, and the game can and should be judged based on the available DLC as much as on anything else.

Flagship developer? They've made five games. Actually two if you consider TF2, L4D and Portal are just Half-Life mods. I'll just tell you the same thing I tell everyone else who whines about DLC. If it bugs you that much, don't buy it. I mean, you hardly have a leg to stand on here, considering this DLC is cosmetic and some of it can be gotten for free with achievements.
They were the flagship PC dev. They even came up with steam, through which 50% of PC games are bought.
FYI something made from the same engine doesn't make it a mod.

So if I bought a car, paid £5000 for it. Then after I bought it got told I could upgrade my car to have rear parking sensors, I am being ripped off as they should have been included in the car to start with? After all, I expect a complete car when I put down my hard earned cash don't I?
What an utterly terrible analogy.
Same logic used.

I paid for a product.
I then get told I can put down more money for some extras.
I feel that those extras should have been included in the first place.

If anything, the complaint I used is more valid, because the extras I referred to actually have a use, where the ones you are bitching about do not.

Explain what's wrong with the analogy, or with every single other person who disagrees with you (basically everyone) or don't waste your time replying, because at the moment, you are just spamming.

I'd say it's perfect, actually. There might be a staggering amount of Day-1 DLC here, but it is 100% optional. Taking Legion's analogy, there's a staggering amount of accessories I can put on my car, but it's all 100% optional.

There is no legitimate reason I can think of to get angry at Valve for including completely optional and fully cosmetic Day 1 DLC. Don't want it? Don't buy it. It's as simple as that.

Now let's say that Valve were charging money to finish the story; THAT'S a legitimate reason to complain. As-is, Portal 2 is a complete game with optional content.

You're right, it was a terrible analogy. The rear parking sensors actually change the way your car works in some small way. It's more like paying $5000 for a car and then complaining about not getting some wicked awesome flame stickers to put on the side. Derp.
If you'd paid for a good paint job and then you didn't get one, then yeah, that's a reasonably good analogy.

Reading this lost me a number of IQ points. Thanks!

Also, if you haven't played the game, who are you to judge the game's length?

'Optional' in this case meaning 'I didn't get it, despite paying the full price for a game'.
Give me a good reason for you to not have been given that stuff from the get go, or for it to be unlocked purely through gameplay.

Well you have to offset the 10/10 fanboy reviews somehow, don't pretend you don't know how metacritic works.

what the shit are you talking about.
The little "hats" don't affect the game. The gestures don't affect your gaming experience. Therefore, you can just not buy them altogether and still have a great time.
Heres the deal-even if these items were not in the game, your gameplay and your gaming experience would have remained the same. But suddenly, when they are in your grasp (even though you don't need them, anyway) you somehow get pissed and sore?

Portal 2, on the other hand, suffers from none of these problems. People giving it a 0/10 review because they didn't get some fucking stickers to put on their robot is ridiculous.
It's ridiculous, but still an ill omen for a developer previously assumed to be above these things. But that's no excuse for these reviews, I'll admit.

Then again, the DA2 negative review backlash wasn't this bad, really. Portal is higher profile, I suppose.

And the game could only be beaten that fast with a strategy guide. Or by someone who managed to grasp the mechanics of the new items terribly fast.

So, if Bungie were to withold the armour customisation and charge you £28 to be able to customise your appearance in Halo Reach you people wouldn't be irate?
Well, I'm hardly surprised at this point.
