Pre-owned games banned? Are you cool with that?

i hope this doesn't come to pass since some games people may not buy until later on when the new copies are gone so unless they sell everything online this no used stuff can rot in the deepest part of hell the one for rapists and murders

I only buy new games anyways, so it won't effect me in anyways. Besides, they are going to do what they want either way.

What? WHAT? They charge more money and are driving other stores out of business because of that? Do you Gamestop crusaders even read what you write? If other game tores are going out of business it is because THEY are offering worse deals than Gamestop. Money talks.
Ehyup, it's exactly what happenes in my town. Stores which give you more money for traded games and more store credit, which want less money for new console titles (and used) are driven out of buisness because of one thing: GameStop. Their PR power and the value of the name is actually enough so that people close their eyes and go buy in there.
What town is this? You live in Oklahoma or something? Perhaps the education system should be better there. Perhaps these other stores don't offer enough information. At any rate, I don't believe this for two main reasons:

A) You claim they sale new games for cheaper when that is a contract made with the publishers and selling new games for cheaper than publisher contract is illegal. If this were true, perhaps that is why they are out of business?
B) This whole train of logic does not include the many variables. It includes one variable and you are attributing that one variable as the source of the problem. That is how the National Enquirer works.

Considering you are tabloiding an economical issue with personal bias (which holds no relevance in economics) and I have found a statement that contradicts retail law, I don't believe you. That is only reinforced by the fact you have made it pretty clear that you have a personal hatred for Gamestop due to a couple bad experiences of your past, of which I have had none and know not one person who has. I have read some on the internet but, c'mon, its the internet. I am not seeing your argument get back by any logic but rather emotion.

I buy games new, but I will also buy the odd pre-owned game, if I'm tight on money or it's a rare game that's no longer available. It's nice to know the option is there. Banning it outright would penalize a lot of gamers who don't pirate games, but also cannot afford to buy new releases constantly.
I think this may be exactly the thing to promote more console piracy. How much you want to bet the next Xbox will immediately begin rivaling the PC as to how often it is pirated? Someone will find a way around it. Then your options will be $60 or $0. All of the used gamers out there will just end up pirating instead since buying games new isn't in their budget. This won't make money magically appear in their wallets, but it may make uTorrent magically appear on their computer.

And I am also a PC gamer. I just laugh at all you nonsense prophecies about the future of consoles when games start to be bound to an account or such.
You mean like when my Steam account got suspended without so much as a "because ________", taking with it hundreds of Euro of legitimately bought games that I still own yet cannot play?

Yeah, 'cause that made me wanna invest in PC gaming like crazy!

And to the people claiming to be ripped off by Gamestop employees, guess what: we're gamers just like you. EXACTLY like you, in fact. If we can help you, we will go out of our way to do it. I used to do stuff for our customers that would've gotten me in trouble, and so did everyone else at my store but the manager, the only one of us who was NOT a gamer. And it PISSES ME OFF to see our work and good will towards fellow gamers just casualy dismissed simply because we work for a Big Name.

I honestly think that physical goods are on their way out. Digital distribution has shown to be a highly successful way of distributing product to consumers, ergo it would seem that there isn't really a place 'used' games in the future of the industry.

I could be wrong, though, and I'd love to hear an opposite opinion.

I actually don't like the idea of digital distribution being the norm, as I'm rather attached to the idea of owning a physical copy of a game.

Quite frankly I think this rumor is some of the biggest bull I've heard coming out of a new generation of console speculation. The backlash would be so horrific that all of Sony's troubles recently would be ended from everyone switching to the PS4 or even the WiiU if it ends up keeping the third party games that normally stick to just 360/PS3 releases like I hope it will.

Sure, but only with the following caveats:

1) The provision for a Full Refund within a reasonable time limit.
2) Unlimited reactivations+redownloads per account.

Give me security in my purchase, and I won't take the cheaper option.

Like in all the threads: I have next to no love left for used games or people buying used. You are supporting a chain of stores which are run by assholes, abuse their customers, employees and the one industry relying on first hand sales through them.
And does buying a used car make me a frugal asshole as well? Does buying from Goodwill rather than Dillard's or Macy's mean I'm a freeloading, anti-capitalist little shit? And what about renting, or buying from garage sales? Or even LENDING my games so that my friends don't have to buy them?

As with piracy, the rampant buying of used games is very much a service problem. The retailers are providing a service the publishers aren't--the same games, but at a more reasonable price. And the publishers are doing themselves no favors by trying to spice their service up by taking away content from used buyers. Really, they're just being petulant. Every other industry in existence has to deal with their products being sold as used in one form or another. Why should they be any different? We shouldn't be afraid to tell them when there's a problem just because we're afraid they'll stop making the games we want. If they want people to buy their games new, they need to make them worth buying new--and without making themselves out to be money-grubbing assholes in the process. For example, selling their products at a reasonable price and making it worth the investment. Maybe offer a trial period or money-back guarantee, or a more comprehensive and accurate demo.

Or just do what Valve did--switch to digital distribution, providing a better service while cutting out the middle man altogether. Work with the customer, not against. Prove to them that you deserve their money.

When used games are outlawed, only outlaws will have used games!

Seriously though, I think I've made my point clear in previous threads. I'm against it. FSD and all that.

I usually get mine new, but I'm not OK with that. It'll make things more inconvenient for the paying customers all to punish people who have the gall to buy used games. Never mind the fact that a good number of those people probably kept the games, and bought DLC for them.

People shouldn't be punished for buying used and people who don't buy used shouldn't be further inconvenienced by developers and publishers more than they already are.

NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
We NEED pre-owned sales, without them our industry WILL collapse in 15 years!
Okay, so you can't play a used copy, just buy a new one right? well what happens when there ARE NO MORE NEW COPIES TO BUY? Your game ceases to exist, that's what happens. And what about whne your network you're linking all these games too shuts down? How many Original XBOX games have been now rendered un-playable by the cutting off of Original XBOX Live?
Used games are IMARATIVE to preserving this industry, and in 20 years when all the games from our era are rendered full of holes by un-redeemable online passes, or unplayable by used game bans within the console, I'll be laughing my ass off with a chorus of "I told ya so".
