Prey: A Character Driven RP [FINISHED]

Maya averted her eyes when Zetta's uncle brought Takeda's body in, she really didn't want to have to look at it again. Instead she deliberately stared in the other direction towards Alec and Gabriel. Listening in on their conversation, as the latter finished she realised with a jolt what they were speaking about, though she hadn't quite understood what Gabriel meant.

"Cou... could you... get Takeda back from being dead?" she mumbled hesitantly towards Alec, moving her gaze away from him to the floor and loosening her grip slightly on Zetta's trousers.

Seeing that Maya was being won over by the other guy, Lily knew she had to take immediate action. She walked across the small space of the kitchen before anyone could stop her, and bent down next to the girl "Maya, I know it sounds like it would be good, but even if he is telling the truth, it wouldn't be a fraction of Takeda, merely a pale shade of him, imitating life." she said, shooting glares at Alec. She stood and faced him. "Even if Rin wasn't working via Tao Zheng, which I'd wager is very likely, as soon as you let it out of your sight, she'd send in someone else to get it for her from them. The only way to keep Rin from using the sword in whatever she wants to do is to keep it from absolutely anyone I don't trust implicitly."

Alec shook his head.

"There is so much confusion right here, right now. I can't bring Takeda back from the dead. I can however try to get some information about who did this to him if he doesn't refuse to be woken up. I'm sure all of you would like a little revenge, and I plan on having some of my own revenge when I get the sword."

Alec angrily turned to Blackrose.

"Look, you are really making things hard for me, especially when you don't know what you're doing. I am older than you, I think I know more than you do. Remember who saved you from getting killed by the police, and didn't decide to abandon you altogether when he had better things to do?"

Dr. Strauss paused to consider Zetta's words.

Could she be right? Rin seemed a bit... odd... Doesn't matter...

"It doesn't matter!" he found himself shouting out loud, "Rin's time travel is the only way I can ever see my family again... the only way I can save them. I don't know what Rin wants the bloody sword for and I don't care!"

Dr. Strauss strode towards Zetta.

"I have no choice."

Dr. Strauss ran towards Zetta, punched her square in the jaw; grabbed Maya, and ran back to the other side of the room before anyone was the wiser.

"Don't worry," he whispered to Maya, "I'm not going to take you to Rin. But I am going to get you to safety... I just can't leave you here." Dr. Strauss's eyes watered a little at the memory of his own daughters.

"Look, Alec. When I get things done, I get them done my way, and I try the peaceful way, not the kicking in the door and threatening to kill everyone way." Blackrose said back, turning to the group in the hallway.

"So, what does it take to earn your trust around here, Lily?" Blackrose questioned, looking at the body, "And why does that boy have a tail?" She asked, staring at it in confusuion.

"No! Zetta!"

Maya cried out as the man who had been talking about her dragged her away from her new friend. The small girl kicked at his legs and tried to wriggle her way out of his grasp, however he much stronger than her and her blows seemed to do nothing. When he put his head close to her to whisper, she put her hands against his face and pushed as hard as she could.

"Let me go!" she yelped "I don't want to go back to Rin; she'll make me do bad things again!"

"I'm not taking you to Rin if I can avoid it," he said calmly, "Do you think I trust Rin any more than you do? I'm just taking the sword to her because then I can get her to save my family. But you... I'm trying to help you. I... I thought these people were abusing you..."

Dr. Strauss looked around to see the others... it was only a matter of time before they tried to stop him. With that thought, he picked Maya up, held her in both arms and ran out of the building and across the street to a park, where he thought he could lose them.

"Help me, I don't want to go!"

Maya called out in a loud voice to her companions as he ran off with her in his arms, she couldn't see exactly what they were doing but it looked like they were being held up by the other two attackers. She gave up struggling when she realised it was useless, and instead tried to turn invisible again. As before, nothing would happen.

Why doesn't my magic ever work? It's not fair, Takeda's always did...

The young child shuddered when she remembered what the kitsune looked like now, and quickly thought about something else.

"Why are we here?" she asked the still unnamed man in a quiet voice as they reached a leafy park.

"I was afraid they might start fighting..." he replied in between pants as he tried to catch his breath, "I didn't want you to get caught in the crossfire. I couldn't let you get hurt. I..." Dr. Strauss got a good look at Maya's face for the first time, and a tear rolled down his face... she looked so much like his middle daughter, "I... I'm Dr. Strauss... Jared Strauss. I'm sorry... I didn't mean to frighten you. I just didn't know what else to do. I couldn't just leave you there... I couldn't let them hurt you Amelia."

Lily stared incredulously after Strauss for a moment before coming to her senses. "You two, help her" She shouted at Alec and Gabriel "Girl, you're with me" she said, grabbing Blackrose's hand and dragging her along before she had time to object. She followed the sound of Maya's calls until they stopped as they were half way though a park. "Shit. Look, I don't care right now what you do, as long as it gets Maya back into safe hands. Or at the very least, out of his dangerous ones." she said, scanning the area as she caught her breath. "By the way, do you have a name?" she asked, listening intently for anything that might betray Maya's position.

"Oh, hell" was as much as Zetta had been able to say before Strauss socked her right in the jaw. She fell backwards, hitting her head quite soundly on the floor. She was dimly aware of people shouting as she stared dazedly up at the ceiling, both her jaw and the back of her head throbbing in pain.

Maurice let out an exasperated cry as some people pelted from the room. Realizing that he was still holding Takeda's body awkwardly in his arms, he knelt down to place the body on the floor. He then moved over to check on Zetta, who was mumbling something unintelligible from her spot on the floor. "Look, I still don't know what's going on here," Maurice said, fixing the people left in the kitchen with a glare, "but if all of this keeps up, I'm calling the police."

Zetta groaned and said something like "bad idea". She eventually sat up, holding her head in hands. Her head and jaw were still throbbing, but her senses were coming back to her now. "What... Where's Maya?"

"My name isn't Amelia, its Maya" the little girl said while giving Dr. Strauss a perturbed look. Now that they were out of the house he didn't seem quite so scary, somewhat comforting even, though she still didn't trust him. Never having had a father, it was the first time she had ever had been held by an adult male.

"I'm cold and hungry... and wet" she complained, shivering under the cool shade of the trees around the pair. "I want to go home."

"I'm sorry," Dr. Strauss said, "Come on then... want to get something to eat?" He asked hollowly, struggling to fight off the memories... despite the deja vu, it was oddly easier to fight them off this time. He looked around for a nearby cafe, once he found one, he paused, and knelt in front of Maya.

"I'm sorry for scaring you," he said softly and with feeling, "I had to get you out of there quickly. I was worried about you... I didn't think you'd be safe there." He stood up again, "Want to get something to eat?" He pointed towards the cafe he had found.

At this point everything that IDK thought he should type sounded like it came from Twilight...except this post...which had to be edited because making people wet themselves is wrong:

Alec gained another essence of his former self, knowledge.

"I'm just going to go to the bar real quick, catch ya'll later."

And he did. When he got to the bar he asked for a discount beer which had been left out of the cooler for too long. He then went outside and found Dr.Strauss heading conviniently to a cafe near him. Alec went back inside the bar, waited until Strauss passed by, then dragged him into the bar.

"Calm yo' self down doctah! You don't just go dragging little girls into parks and then cafes! What wrong with you!? I can't even think straight because I can't imagine what you're gonna do next! Remember why you're here! Just leave the girl alone, get the sword, and AVOID Rin. She lies too much to trust. If you betray me, I'll light you on fire!"

Alec then spilled the beer on Dr.Strauss and pulled out a match(no, not from his ass).

"Just get to the cafe now."

Alec slipped into the cafe and found Maya.

"Hey kid, you're lucky I have the power to find a bar anywhere I go, otherwise I wouldn't have found you." He joked

"Okay... lets go there."

Now that Dr. Strauss had put her down, Maya briefly considered whether she should run away, however rejected the idea when she realised she couldn't remember how to get back to the house. She hoped that Lily, Zetta or Gabriel would be on their way to find her; she thought that Jared might be nice but after what had happened with Rin she didn't want to take the risk. Right now though the young girl was very hungry and ran eagerly ahead to the cafe at the promise of food, with the doctor following behind. It was mostly empty, so she sat herself down at the nearest table.

"Hey kid, you're lucky I have the power to find a bar anywhere I go, otherwise I wouldn't have found you."

Maya looked up to see a young white man speaking to her. He reminded her of the man she had just seen back in Zetta's uncle's house, but was it him? It seemed to the little girl that all white people appeared almost the same and this one was no exception. She gave Dr. Strauss a desperate look, hoping he would be able to sort it out.

"Yeah, name's Blackrose. So, Lily, what is it exactly that you can do?" Blackrose said, trying to dig into Lily's mind to find out on her own. "So, which way do you think they went?" Blackrose questioned, looking around at various locations around her. As she looked around, she saw Alec going into a cafe.

"C'mon, I see Alec in there, he looks like he's doing something." Blackrose said, still trying to dig through Lily's head.

Meanwhile as Maya, Dr. Strauss and Alec sat in a cafe, and Lily and Blackrose were close behind in pursuit, back in Zetta's uncle's house no-one noticed a dull thud as if something large had just landed in a nearby room. A couple of seconds later it was followed by a muffled yell and then at the door to the kitchen appeared a grinning Rin, holding a petrified Maurice at gun-point.

"Hello again, did you miss me?" she cackled "I trust you enjoyed meeting my new friends, I love how easy it was split up your little gang to make you a bit more... manageable. Zetta and..." for a moment she paused in thought "Gabriel? That sounds about right, my powers usually are, even if we have yet to be properly acquainted. Now if you don't mind could you please bring me Excalibur before I make this floor even filthier!"

She waved the pistol around theatrically, but kept it pointed mainly in the direction of her hostage while her eyes darted suspiciously around the room. It was then she spotted the body of Takeda lying peacefully on the kitchen floor where Maurice had left it.

"Oh my, what have we here? The young kitsune is finally dead, or not so young actually, over a hundred in human years I believe. Shame, I would have liked to take him back for my collection, but oh well, he wasn't as useful as the legends made out anyway."

Lily felt the unfamiliar and strange feeling of someone trying to break into the security of her mind. "GET OUT!" she shouted at Blackrose sharply, whirling as she did so. The worst that her attacker could have gleaned were a childhood memory or two, and maybe what she was thinking about at that particular moment, which was along the lines of 'Who the hell are these people? Why did that plague rat kidnap Maya?' she looked to Blackrose and saw her trying to conceal a flinch. "I'm sorry, just... Just don't ever do that again, alright?" she said, before heading over towards the cafe. "I told him to stay with her, if that guy was telling the truth she could be dying. Why didn't the idiot listen?" she muttered to herself.

Rezetta was on her feet by now, one hand rubbing her still aching jaw. She hadn't noticed that her uncle had left the room--probably to follow up on his threat of calling the police--until Rin appeared with him in her grasp.

"Let me go!" Maurice yelled, struggling at first to free himself from Rin. He froze when she held the gun closer to his head, biting down hard on his bottom lip.

"I should have known we wouldn't be free of you for a while," Zetta growled, looking back and forth between Rin and Maurice. She didn't have the best memories of her uncle, but she didn't want him to get hurt. Plus, she felt terribly guilty for the position he was now in. It had been her idea to crash at his house, after all.

"You really have no heart, do you?" she asked after Rin spoke of Takeda. Zetta shook her head emphatically, hands clenched into fists at her side. "Takeda--and Maya--were nothing but pawns to you. You don't care what happens to anybody as long as you get your precious sword, right? I think you're the real demon here."

Zetta was stalling, trying to figure out a plan as she tried to keep Rin talking. She couldn't allow Rin to get the sword, but she had no idea how she'd free her uncle without giving it up. Even if she had enough power to craft an illusion of the sword, Rin would realize what it really was as soon as she touched it, and it was likely she would only let Maurice go once she had the sword in her hands. Still trying to think of something, she shot a desperate look at Gabriel.
